If Fitsnews, Duncan, Mulvaney and, Will always seems to forget, Clybrun (sic) had there way with NAFTA as they want with TPA, South Carolina would instead of being the makers of BMERs, commercial jets, heavy machinery tires, gas turbines and pharmaceuticals, they would be sewing shirts and stitching the elastic on underwear.
When all the first world gets their clothing sown in Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic, fitness et al would have South Carolina competing against the third world. That’s what SC did before NAFTA freed us from those corporate welfare industries that kept us poor and would have made us poorer because of tariff protection from competition.
People like Will Folks, Duncan, Mulvaney and Clyburn (sic) have dull minds that can see only what’s two feet ahead. They worry about the dead end jobs of the past. Who could imagine when NAFTA was passed the first world industries for a developed country with an educated workforce would flock to SC?

I don’t think FITSNews despises SC. There– said it. I do believe those dead end jobs of the past were in large part due to unfair trade agreements. Precisely those industries that moved to China. An unequal playing field.
Examples: China will flood the market with goods they lose money on in hopes of gaining the market. Companies who sell their products follow suit.
While I agree with you Bible Thumper on many aspects of TPA, TPP and the various other T’s, in some respect. It is important that we recognize what happened to certain industries, why we lost them. It is my strong belief, it was an unfair system. TPP has standards that exclude those who do not meet standards. That is a good thing. Why? Imagine buying product from another country that has health consequences to those that use it (BPA). China does not have the same regulations US has.
I can understand from a pure free market idealist how we should abolish any barriers to trade agreements. I cannot understand how any libertarian, large or small, agrees to stifle trade and consider is cronyism. I do understand that it could be, without TPP standards.
It is currently an unlevel playing field. I have looked at the data. Even SC imports more than it exports to China. I am glad they are not a TPP partner. I am glad we do have standards that prohibit them from raping us. At least for now. They have been doing it for years. I don’t blame them. I would do the same in their situation. I could rant on…but would anyone listen?
Read TPA and TPP for yourselves. If you need the links, ask for them. Don’t allow anyone to tell you how to harass your legislators until you know the details. It’s complicated, but well written.
If there is a debate to be made, it is TAA – how is that funded?

The way Socialism gets treated in most discussions in this country is downright disgusting. Instead of people engaging in intellectually rigorous debate, seeking to work out problems and separate truths from truisms, we get dogmatic blind condemnation. Hell of a job all the right-wing and blue dog “left” members have done denigrating what could be the last hope for truly civilized human society. The opponents of Socialism don’t engage in honest debate; they simply slander and peddle guilt-by-association all the live long day, meanwhile, working people continue to be exploited by Repubs and Dems.

A lowly commentator’s wish. Who are the Presidential candidates — all parties. Good and bad. Break it out into a series — plenty of time. Vetting of candidates will likely happen in the comment section. Would make interesting dialogue.
My last comment tonight on TPA, TPP and TAA. I am by no means an expert, but I have looked at the agreements myself. I can sum it up in simple terms:
Who do you trust? A neighbor that you have good business relations with or distant countries who rape your families? Look at the big picture, not the small snapshots in front of our faces. China may one day be a TPP partner, but they will need to change the way they have done business in the past.
Take long hard look at who the TPP partners are. The TPA is nothing more than an agreement that allows business transactions on a level playing field to be expedited.
Remove the hype and look at the agreements “for damn sure.” If I was starting from scratch. I would look at TPP, who are the partners? Where are the trade deficits? How can we close the gaps? Do your own gap analysis and come to terms on your terms.
Don’t ever allow anyone to tell you what to support, but listen, so that you have direction and the ability to decide where you stand.
This isn’t a conspiracy. It may not be perfect. Based on what I have read, US can control agreements within reason.
I prefer to do business with friends, allies. You have to decide where you stand. That decision is yours and no one else’s — unless you allow it to be.
