New Hampshire Republicans have been batshit crazy since being bitten by William Loeb, the Editor of the Manchester Union Leader more than 60 years ago. I remember his front-page editorials with BOLDFACE CAPS to emphasize his anti-communist rants.
The irony was that he had to run the paper from Massachusetts due to a warrant for his arrest if he ever set foot in NH. Our school newspaper routinely ran sarcastic parodies on its front page.
