CONTROVERSIAL BANNER TO BE CHALLENGED IN AFTERMATH OF “HOLY CITY MASSACRE”
|| By FITSNEWS || Opponents of the Confederate flag flying on the grounds of the S.C. State House will gather under the controversial banner this weekend to call for its removal.
A “Take The Flag Down” rally is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. EDT on Saturday (June 20) at the S.C. State House in downtown Columbia, S.C. There, a version of the controversial banner has flown on the north lawn since 2000. Prior to that, another version of the Confederate flag flew from the dome of the capital building – and adorned both legislative chambers.
A bipartisan, biracial compromise moved the banner – although the issue has continued to surface sporadically over the last decade-and-a-half (most recently here).
The latest push to take the flag down comes in response to the “Holy City Massacre,” in which a troubled 21-year-old white man – Dylann Storm Roof – gunned down nine black parishioners after attending their Bible study at the Mother Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston, S.C. One of the murder victims was the church’s pastor – S.C. Senator Clementa Pinckney.
Roof had a Confederate flag license plate on his car – which he used to evade capture in the immediate aftermath of the shooting. That’s prompted many of the banner’s detractors to argue the flag has become synonymous with hate.
This website has never paid the flag debate much mind – arguing antiquated symbols are as easily self-applied as political labels – and therefore essentially meaningless.
However, in light of the recent tragedy, we’ve come to realize our indifference toward the flag’s presence on the State House grounds (and in other government-funded facilities) is standing in the way of a legitimate belief that the banner is a symbol of hate.
And given that removing this banner poses no imposition whatsoever on anyone else’s liberties … well, we believe it’s time to take it down.
For more information on the “Take The Flag Down” rally, here’s the event’s Facebook Page. As of this writing, more than 1,000 people had indicated their intention to attend the event.
Meanwhile, down in Charleston, S.C. organizers are holding a unity rally Sunday evening on the iconic Arthur Ravenel, Jr. bridge.

Maybe they could make threat of a boycott.
Tango, I’m driving up for this. Wanna meet for a burger and some gay sex? We can lay some stars and bars on the hotel bed. Only kidding. And yes, it’s Rocky Verdad.
9″ will likely contact you as long as you’ll be a bottom.
*golf clap*
It took me a couple of seconds to get past gonorrhea…
You’re a bottom! A bottom dweller!
Oh you’re quick witted today. Your jokes must go over well at church camp.
All of the hard headed, Confederate heritage Senators, living and dead, royally screwed up this “compromise”. The flag was going to be moved from the dome, then or soon. The best proposal was to have no cloth flag on the grounds, but statues which would have included all sectors of the conflict, Black and White, Northern and Southern, all branches of service, pausing to drink from a pool together. I believe Senator McConnell had a model of what it would look like. It was very respectful of all sides, but the theme was reconciliation among the adversaries. The “defenders” of southern heritage would have no such monument, but had to put the flag somewhere on the grounds and they chose by (actually behind) the Confederate soldier. The Senators who insisted on this know who they are and will have to live with what their narcissism has wrought as to the vitriol which continues to be heaped on the flag and our state.
Move all this shit. Destroy it, put it in a museum. Why would one want to look upon a horrible time in history and be reminded daily. We need to come together in solidarity as American’s. Not division. Both sides need to give. Move both these artifacts to a museum.
I’d like to know who those Senators are. We can all call them and encourage them to make the right choice this time around.
There is NO chance that flag is coming down anytime soon..
Any Republican voting to do so would be commiting political suicide.
Keep it flyin boys!
I can’t wait to see all those Republican presidential candidates trying to tap dance around the issue as they campaign down here!
Ohhh, I look forward to every candidate being asked about it over and over and over.
The people can make it come down. Send letters to your legislator. Call them. They will listen. If enough people do that, they will be heard.
We bitch – time to act?
The ‘defenders’ did it to tell the blacks in this state: “we will keep you in your god damned place. We may have to serve with you. We may have to let you have jobs in state government. Some of us may have to go to school with you. But, we will rub your nose in our ‘superiority’ every single day.”
That’s what that flag is about.
I’m not sure about your race, so I can only speculate. If I were black, that is how I would feel. Walk a day in a man’s shoes to understand. None are superior, we are just simple man.
FITS, you could have been WAAAAAY in front of this story. I’ve stated for years this flag needs to go.
But, he’s narcissistic, totally lacking in empathy and racist (if his blog posts about black politicians, including Rev. Pinckney, are any indication) so he could have never picked up on how vile the flying of this flag is.
People being gunned down at prayer meeting finally got through.
How old is Folks? Is be finally, belatedly outgrowing the Teenage Brain?
Your ranting don’t make a lot of sense to me. We are all a product of society. Our upbringing. Our interactions. It’s easy to categorize someone as narcissistic.
I see your silly references, I acknowledge them as you poking fun. Truth is, this “possibly” could have been avoided with some mental health and taking down that “rebel” flag. Rebels see that as a sign of rebellion.
Hey, I’m giving him a compliment. He seems to be growing up enough to consider a little pragmatism.
That is very unusual for a Libertarian.
I am not a pragmatist, so I can’t follow your reasoning. Call your legislators if you want change.
I live in a majority black district with mostly black legislators. I don’t have to tell them.
It’s up to the voters in the districts who elect the people who put it up and keep it up to call their legislators.
I just don’t know how many white people in Red districts really want it down.
I’m in a white district. I am white. I detest what is happening. I want to work together. I want it down.
Good. Then, do it. Make it happen with the legislators who matter. I hope there is a silent majority of white South Carolinians like you.
But, that flag made David Beasley a one term governor 20 years ago and that’s what has the politicians scared.
Do you know what the shame is? Politicians used to be leaders and educate their constituents about ideas and persuade them to do the best, right thing. Now, politicians follow the rabble.
They just want to be re-elected, they follow the populace, those who call. Fortunately those who call are the minority, unless you get some PAC political pundit involved. If the people speak, I feel sure most would agree.
We are all sick of waking up being afraid of what is going to happen next. It isn’t confined to any particular race – we all have it. We could all work together – we could have the best state in the world. SC is a prime location, save all the racial disputes.
I left you a message a little higher in the thread.
Politicians for the great majority do follow the rabble and internet has been a great enabler.
FYI – I am not the silent majority, I just don’t publish all my interaction. My legislators are unlikely to listen. In office too long. One is new, might have a chance there.
I am like a pesky bee when something hits my interest. I just keep calling. My calls will be difficult, because my Senator is not one I support. Maybe tomorrow will be a different day and common ground. I won’t know until I call. It’s never stopped me from expressing my opinions on things I feel strongly about. Worst case scenario, I might have to send a letter, but I call enough they usually return calls even if they disagree.
Politicians used to be leaders and educate their constituents about ideas and persuade them to do the best, right thing. Now, politicians follow the rabble.
Universal suffrage and democrats sure have effed us up, haven’t they?
Politicians used to be leaders and educate their constituents about ideas and persuade them to do the best, right thing. Now, politicians follow the rabble.
Funny, TBG always assumed you were a democrat.
Oxford Dictionaries:
Pragmatic –
dealing with things sensibly and realistically in a way that is based on practical rather than theoretical considerations:
“a pragmatic approach to politics”
synonyms: practical · matter-of-fact · sensible · down-to-earth · commonsensical · businesslike · having both/one’s feet on the ground · hardheaded · no-nonsense
I think you just might be a pragmatist after all.
Yeah – I know many pragmatics. I’m just not one of them. Nothing wrong with that, lends itself well to a number of great jobs, I just have a bigger picture idea.
I’ll look for your earlier comment, haven’t seen it. I only respond to those who reply on thread, not enough time to read all. Thanks for letting me know, will look for it.
It was just the definition…
By definition, yes, but when you get into philosophy it becomes very tangled. Different meaning altogether. If I were to look up the term progressive and someone ask me if I am a progressive, my answer is yes, but not in the political sense. I am open to reform, I’m just not a progressive about it.
Nothing is black and white.
“That is very unusual for a Libertarian.”
It is actually very common, for libertarians starting to wake up to the libertarian flavor of bullshit at least.
Nitrate,
You are a liberal bitch. STFU
How long before the next “mayorhood” post?
The flag might very well need to come down, but holding a rally now is not about the flag. It is about fanning the fire, and self-aggrandizement.
So, I show respect to the people of Charleston. They have been fair and honorable and kind spirited.
To the holders of the rally, I say go to hell you race baiting pigs.
i agree.
I respect Charleston, but they are a more democratic pocket of the state, they either have extremely wealthy or dirt poor. The dirt poor is unlikely to get equal representation, regardless of color.
Enough with this traditional, honorable bovine feces. It is time to take a stand and do what is right. To hell with tradition.
I am glad they have a cool head, but they need to show up, protest in a mild manner. If they burn buildings, destroy property – hope is lost. If they show up in a mild manner and make their voices heard, change will occur.
I agree with your sentiments about the people of Charleston, and especially the black people. This is a time for solemn reflections, mourning the dead, and thinking about what you can do to help people get through this.
We need to feed and nurture what goodwill that many have exhibited and schedule the political rallies and marches for a later date. It’s offensive to try to leverage support for a political event from a tragedy at this time.
You have no right to say how they should react.
So true but follow this “person’s” comments and look at the comments this person upvotes. Sad.
Notice you always crawl out of the sewer and post while decent human beings are sleeping. You are truly the daughter of darkness.
Yeah. there are a couple of people on here that do that. “The after hour trolls.” They are better tolerated if they are just left alone, Eventually, they go back to their roosts.
Bullshit. Now is exactly the time. Otherwise these innocent victims of a racist gun nut will have died for nothing.
No, it’s about pushing back and expressing anger towards racist fucks and the oppressive and backwards gov’t that is S.C.’s The confederate flag is for losers and has no place anywhere on the state house grounds except maybe for toilet paper.
People like you don’t get to control the monopoly on response to tragedy and agitating for change. If you don’t like it, slink back into your bunker.
” racist fucks”…I just watched BLACKS burn down WHITE businesses and homes in Ferguson and Baltimore.
No we don’t control the monopoly to tragedy and desstroying America like you sic fucks. we do however control the ballot box.
Read it and weep.
Racists just love to bring up anything and everything to beat up on black people as a whole when tragedies like the Charleston shooting happen. When something sad happens to people it brings people together and creates emotional ties. Racists hate emotional ties, so they try to sever any they can early with their racist mantras.
Yep…mmmmmmm…..maybe that’s because of a history of institutional racism and murders committed by white cops.
Fuck’s sake, wake up to the news.
Got your Hillary bumper sticker on your car yet?
Wow, tell us how you really feel!
I find myself asking this a lot on Fits, if South Carolina sucks so bad, why do you live here?
Not only that but why do they even want to live? They hate God,America, believe men should be women and women should be men and killing babies is their religion.
What a fucked up life.
You’re the one that’s fucked up.
Because the dipshit’s trailer house probably has a flat tire and he’s too cheap to fix it.
So you support a symbol of human bondage and oppression of a nation that
no longer exists flying on the official grounds of a state that does? A
symbol that represents 400 years of slavery and bigotry.
You ask
why I live here, I ask why you don’t live in remote Idaho with all your
white power brethren. If you support the flag, you are a racist fucck…plain and simple.
Who started slavery? Where does slavery still exist? I suspect you’d be first in line to support those countries if a natural disaster occurred there.
Slavery was started by tribes in Africa, raiding other tribes, enslaving the people and selling them to the Dutch and French.
dis iz pretty hateful speech, mister. don’t ye find yer positshun, well… hypocritical? ye seems to be stereotypin’ as well. will y’all be gettin a lynch mob together? maybe round up all the political hereticks fer sum re-educashun? I’m plum confused wit yer positshun. kinda like th’ pot callin the kettle black… (I intend no pun here, suh.)
Same could be said about the Star Spangled Banner if one wanted to push it. Numerous atrocities have been committed under it or its varients. Whether in (in some cases) foreign lands, or here in the USA (against Native Americans or even citizens of the Confederacy), if one wants to collect injustices, I’m sure they can be found.
Having some Cherokee ancestry, if I really wanted to, I could go on a “boo-hoo” binge about how my widdle feelings get hurt every time I have to look upon that symbol of oppression as it flies in front of government buildings, businesses, and homes. Do I really fell that way? No, but I hope those possessed of enough intelligence see where it could go.
He loves putting others down. He loves it.
Do you remember awhile back when the SC high school teacher stomped on the US Flag in his classroom? I don’t understand why the people that complain about the Confederate Flag are so vocal, they are the same that said the US Flag was just a piece of cloth.
So you support a symbol of human bondage and oppression of a nation that no longer exists flying on the official grounds of a state that does? A symbol that represents 400 years of slavery and bigotry.

It’s just a piece of cloth.
Time to start flagging repeated comments by this simple minded idiot.
“So you support a symbol of human bondage and oppression”
Interesting thing is, the Klan didn’t often use the Confederate flag at their rallies, they used the good ole Stars N Stripes:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/2001/04/lew-rockwell/bristling-dixie/
Maybe we should have them both torn down as symbols of “bondage and oppression”.
MLK Day was forced down the throats of the majority of white people. It is a fact. But we are not demanding that it be abolished. There are a lot more civil rights heroes more deserving. Leave the flag alone, or risk further alienating more whites.
So you’re comparing a holiday that honors a man who led the African American people to struggle for equal rights – non-violently – to a flag that was placed on the Capital as a middle-finger to the African American’s fight for equal rights, that is used by the KKK as a system of racial hatred, that was used by Dylann Root in many of his pictures, that reflects the heritage of slavery. Yeah, that makes sense.
No, I was comparing MLK to Karl Marxx and Fredrick Engles. He also was a wife beater, drunk, and misused funds intended for charity. Read the FBI reports! However, he is suppose to be a hero. Oh well, better than Al, Jesse, or Louis. I guess!
Excuse me, that’s Ok, it was a ‘black’ teacher
He came down here from Ohio to get a job, then couldn’t even do that. It’s understandable that he’s bitter.

Wow, cut and paste much?
Just like a ditto head, only the context is different..
A
symbol that represents 400 years of slavery and bigotry.
The CSA lasted about 5 years, Chief.
And you shithead miss it so much.
Today, there are more Africans in slavery than in the past 200 years. And it is their black masters that are doing it. Oduma, Sharpton, Jackson, Rangle, et al.
ye alreadie sayed that a couple times. are you a person or a machine? and, I hate to break dis to ya, nuthin is plain an simple except a penut butter an jelly sandwich.
So you support a symbol of human bondage and oppression of a nation that

As I’ve started several times yesterday, I don’t care anymore, take it down. Since I Ann a historian, I understand the concept of “historical context” and have no issue with a period flag at a monument. However, all the panties wadded up around here might move on to something really important like education, roads or ethics, if it comes down so “strike the banner boys”.
Not one damn thing will change though – race pimps will find something new to bitch about, Charlestonians will still understand that you don’t have to throw rocks and burn stuff when bad things happen and the greatest racist of all will still be standing there overlooking the Confederate Monument. Don’t you find it odd that our “racist state” with the Confederate banner flying over a Confederate monument doesn’t go beserk when a potentially racial issue happens like all those enlightened cities up north?
Colonel – let’s not get to all mighty here. Right now we’ve only watched how Charleston has reacted. Columbia and Spartansburg might have reacted entirely different. And I don’t mean just how the African American population reacts, and I don’t mean violence. Indifference as a reaction is at times very loud.
I very specifically mentioned Charleston on purpose. I think Orangeburg/Spartanburg might react differently.
OK – wife and kids are stirring. I need to pretend I’m queuing up the list for today – :) Who knows, maybe we’ll head up there and check it out and offer our support. Ya know, no one has mentioned how important that Flag is to Dukes of Hazard Fans and Daisy Duke.
Burning Orangeburg could be a good thing.
When is the last time white people rioted and burned their neighborhoods down? Violence is part of the black culture.
I got it out of my system yesterday – but yeah – that bed-sheet sure stirs up a lot of debate. I’d just add, if it was just about heritage, why are people so stirred up, to levels that seem to remind one of the early 1960s and the issue of desegregation? You might think they’re almost linked – sort of.
You’re a “historian?”
HAHAHAHA!
Yes, I am. Please provide the historical facts or interpretation that I’ve gotten wrong in your opinion.
Yep, that’s me, “racist”, except that I’m not.
You already said that, are you so ignorant that you can’t come up with more than one comment at a time?
Idaho? You don’t know crap about Idaho and could not find it, on a map, with both hand and a flash light.
it iz a machine!
You fuckers no longer run people outta town and get to decide that question – you have not understood that neither SC nor the US is ‘yours anymore’ – you live in a society that is multicultural and diverse and don’t call the shots anymore – hombre !
Since you struggle with reading comprehension, I’ll explain my question to you. No one suggested running anyone, anywhere – I simply asked why someone would choose to live in such an awful place as Mr. Limbaugh describes.
It makes you feel superior to rant against the flag. How bout spend some time on issues relevant, not simply issue emotional.
You ranting pigs are killing this country. From the left and the right…you shout emotion to the rooftop.
How about love your neighbor, you brother, be they black or white…and then STFU
Even if hell froze over and the flag came down, years down the road when something similar happened again and there isn’t the flag to blame, all the morons that went marching for it to come down still won’t ever admit they were morons and changed nothing.
Those people live to march, and accomplish nothing. It’s like the black churchs where they sit in church all day Sunday and then fuck everything over and leech off every government assistance program Monday through Saturday.
You are one of those people that will never allow change to occur. You have so much hate inside you, you cannot see anything good for the future. Why do this day after day? Just to make sure everyone is equally miserable and share in your hate and ugliness.
FITSnews is not a replacement for psychiatric care. You have issues that cannot solved on this site.
No, I just know a waste of time when I see it.
Name one thing that will make a difference tomorrow? What will change if there’s a rally or if the Statehouse grounds are empty tomorrow evening? The only thing it’ll accomplish is fucking up the grass on the grounds.
So where did you get your medical training… Dr. Phil? If you don’t have MD after your name, shut your cock holster.
If you are looking for immediate gratification, go find you a drug of choice. Everything else takes time. Including relationships.
I got my medical training reading books, you might try it sometime, might help with the anger issues. Matters not to me what initials follow your name, those fish lips just keep sucking air.
Carry on.
So what kind of timeline are you looking at? A week, a year, a decade, a lifetime, never???
So what you’re saying is you’re not medically trained and don’t know shit. My only anger issues is having to deal with dipshits like you. Everybody gets a trophy, can’t keep score, if one person feels slighted we have to change the rules. It’s people like you who are responsible for the pussification of this country.
I wouldn’t want to contribute to your anger issues. As a gentleman with a “cock holster” I will bid you goodnight.
Boyfriend making you go get lubed up?
So were you lying about getting your medical expertise from reading? Was it anything more than a box of Band-Aids?
Will was hilarious tonight-not as good as character ‘GT’ though!!!
Lulz.
‘FITSnews’-SYNTwist=DAMN…I get it! stupid me. LMAO!!!!
Are you kidding? When the flag comes down, the illegitimate birth rate by Black women will plummet. Black on Black crime, particularly murder, will all but cease to exist. Black illiteracy (despite 12 years of free education being offered) will reverse and Blacks will outnumber whites in getting college degrees from accredited institutuons by a huge margin. Poverty among Blacks will also cease.
You see, these problems are all a result of that damn flag flying on the Capital grounds.
If these changes don’t come to pass, a lot of folks, to include myself, are damn sure going to be asking why!
It’ll be because they didn’t get reparations.
Damn, Squishy! I forgot about that. Not to worry, Will will be on here next week, bleating about how we need to make that happen. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear Limbaughsaphatcunt’s soul had taken possession of Will’s body.
Why can’t they take down the battle flag and replace it with the stars and bars. A blue field with 13 white stars in a circle with red, white and red horizontal bars. This flag insults no one. Never have seen a ku kluxer or rd neck displaying this flag, and it would still maintain our state’s heritage. Oh but wait, this is South Carolina, and even though I love her, as James L Petigru said prior to the Civil War, ” …too small for a republic, too large for an insane asylum”.
No.
American and state flags are enough.
Let’s be done with the institutional governmental heritage crap and let people celebrate their heritage personally and privately.
Proud of you, man! This is a great article.
Don’t remove symbols of hate – it weakens us!
That unemployment rate might just lower itself if we do that. Definitely a weakness.
What if people in SC started “thinking?”
OMG…
Imagine the outrage!
How’s that? You think these people bitching about the flag will turn their EBT cards in for paychecks? I’ve lived in SC long enough to know that’s not even a likely scenario.
One of the problems with racism, people only want to hire others they can relate to, which typically means same color.
It won’t happen overnight, but given enough time the hate will go away. It may not help us at all today, but it has potential to help future generations.
Children do not know prejudice. It is a learned thing. One generation where people work together could change every generation thereafter.
Ever hear a child say, “I hate this person because they are this color?” It doesn’t happen. It is taught. That flag is part of that lesson.
After racism, people will find another reason to hate. People are creative like that. They may be taught but they can also be inventive. There would have to be the first hater who was self taught.
There are any number of reasons to hate people. The first hater would need a reason to hate.
Maybe it is hopeless and I’m an optimist? We will never know unless we try. We can always dredge that flag back up if it doesn’t work out.
I hate Frank, only because he’s fucking annoying.
Admit it, you are curious about my “cock holster” that you mentioned earlier. Frustrated that I don’t elaborate. Poor unique Squishy…123
Ah, a fagbaiter… sorry you’re not my type.
You sure? You seemed really interested earlier.
FITSnews=SYNTwist….you fucked up with the ‘FITSnews’ post…just so obvious…LMAO!!! Carry on.
No fucking clue what you are talking about. Carry on.
Not unless you have a vagina and have the correct height to weight ratio. And don’t look like caught fire as a child and your dad tried to put it out with a rake.
You haven’t fucked anything but that deflated, sticky blow-up doll in your filthy bed in years. And with that little shriveled up teeny little peeny of yours what would be the point anyway, you racist fuck. Get back to sucking GT’s and Pogo’s dicks – they miss you.
Are you hitting on me?
Do you tend to hire or hope people you work for will hire new employees that you don’t relate with or people you people you relate with?
So now you’re pretending to be a child psychologist. Maybe you need to turn off Dr. Phil and do something constructive with your life.
Horseshit. Check out state government where there is plenty of racism on all sides. The hate is not going away anytime soon regardless of the damn flag.
Topple the Tillman statue too; let the old murderous bigot’s monument fall a la Saddam’s.
Replace it with a statue of Sen. Pinckney, martyr to Tillman’s legaccy.
What did Pinckney do besides take a bullet to the head? Buy Todd Rutherford lunch?
He very possibly is going to get the Confederate rag down.
Unlikely.
I just agreePER HOUR 88$@mk1
>…
http://www.GlobalNetMoneyTarget/ranking/homes/
You will never live to see it.
Topple the Tillman statue too; let the old murderous bigot’s monument fall a la Saddam’s.
Have US Federal troops pull it down?
You need help with that ? My compadres and I will come with our jack hammers and take it down – each stone will be sold like a piece of the Berlin wall
They are exploiting the massacre to promote their own agenda. Its a sickness. Just like Hillary’s sickness saying Trumps words caused the killings.
Marches and rallies don’t do a damn thing.
There will be a rally tomorrow, by next Saturday not a damn thing will change. Waste of time by liberals, but it’s not like they can find something constructive or productive to do with their spare time. Gathering and bitching is just a social event for them.
We are a social species. Nothing is wrong with a social event.
What will it prove? Other than being a waste of time and energy. Extra police will probably be brought in for security, so it’s also a waste of taxpayer dollars.
Same with Teabagger rallies and protests. Same with the American Legion parades with their goofy hats. Same with anti-abortion demonstrations.
Exactly. But I believe the American Legion parades are about honor not protest. Big difference.
There has never been anything honorable about the American Legion.
That’s an awesome troll post. You’re saying there’s nothing honorable about every veteran in this country.
You need some work on reading comprehension and then (and only then) some reading on the origin and history of the Legion.
I don’t need to read up on it, I’m learning everything I need to know from your comments. Everything you’ve written so far has been ignorant and troll-worthy.
Squishy reads?
Not as much as you apparently.
It is illegal to fly the Swastika flag in Germany, so neo-Nazis there are partial to the Confederate Battle Flag like the one on the SC Statehouse grounds.
Flying the Confederate flag in this country isn’t illegal. The discussion is about South Carolina, not a country halfway around the world.
I was wondering about that myself. Can the federal government enact a law that makes it illegal to fly the Confederate flag, if the government declares it a symbol of domestic terrorism? Federal funding of any state that flies the flag on state grounds would be cut off.
Constitutional law attorneys would love this legislation, they’d be employed for years.
Make a deal with ya. If you agree to declare the ‘Rainbow Flag’ for queers a symbol of domestic terrorism (homosexuality and gay marriage destroys the very moral fabric of this country) I will agree with the federal government taking the confederate Flag down. The Pope even hates that transgender shit.
Deal?
Not too many domestic terrorists use a rainbow flag to symbolize their beliefs. As far as destroying the moral fabric of society, I’d say 60% heterosexual divorce rates, adultery and illicit drug use probably account for a bit more moral decay than one small segment of the population.
The faggots never fought a war against the United States of America.
Or burn crosses on lawns – for that matter. Bet tell 2 Step Tango that if he agrees we take down the flag, we won’t put the Rainbow Flag on his lawn, even though he’s a flaming member of the coalition.
The important point is that the killings have led more to unity than division. The killer wanted to start a civil war, but he failed. He will either be put to death or spend the rest of his life in prison. Because of him, people of all races across the nation are taking a giant dump on racist trash.
Give it a week and it’ll be all back to normal. The country was supposed to come together after the 9/11 attacks. How long did that last?
Maybe on my side of I-95 down here, the other side – don’t count on it. Can’t even lower a flag over there.
Not one person here has blamed the shooting on mental illness. According to the dumb-asses here, he shot up the church because he had a Confederate flag license plate on his car.
Reader’s deficit?
What the fuck are you talking about?
I mentioned mental illness a number of times on multiple threads. Hard time getting your mind off that “cock holster”?
Personally, for me, I’d vote to either keep the flag up, or, vote to take ALL of the damn monuments and symbols around the State House down. (that would be the take-it-or-leave-it choice). I mean really, we’re going to take a controversial piece of cloth down, and yet, we’ll keep up a statue honoring a controversial gynecologist, a statue honoring just one of this state’s ethnic groups (but not the others who contributed immensely to this state’s history, many of which that were indentured when they arrived), a statue honoring a long lived Senator who secretly had a black kid (that he was ashamed of), a statue of a powerful South Carolinian from the 1940s (you know, during the communist new deal era), etc, etc.? This state and this movement are currently screwed in the head. My hope is that when the flag does comes down that the people behind this movement have the opportunity to personally realize that they have been played when they understand that the racial situation is no better, and perhaps, may even be worse. You know, when they realize that the Kelley Hunnevells (Sp) of SC are still dying at statistically alarming rates.
Irony – Clementa Pinckney voted for the Confederate flag
I haven’t been able to find anything by researching, but I know he was in office at the time and the black caucus voted for it.
I’m for removing the flag, but it’s not going to happen until all the politicians responsible for moving it are out of office. Didn’t Clementa Pinckney vote with Ford and other members of the Black Caucus for the current compromise? Perhaps a reader can find a Web link proving it. It seems ironic that his death might spur the removal of a flag from a monument he voted to have put there. I’m all for it, but don’t see it happening yet.
Act 292 of 2000 resulted from the House concurrence with the Conference Report on S.1266 on 18 May 2000. The roll call of the House, where Clementa Pinckney served at the time was 66 – 43, with 2 additional yeas from members who were absent when the vote was taken.
The House Journal records this entry: “The SPEAKER granted Rep. PINCKNEY a leave of absence for the day.”
So, the irony here is that you posted bullshit because you were unable to do the research I had to do for you.
Rabid much! I’m too lazy to bring out the laptop. Too difficult on a phone. First, you want me edit before I post, now you want me to research facts before posting. You’re being unreasonable.
Guilty as charged. Time for bed.
I thought more black legislators voted for it, but as you see below most Black Senators did, but not most Black House members did.
http://www.nytimes.com/2000/05/19/us/south-carolina-votes-to-remove-confederate-flag-from-dome.html
It is futile to speculate why individual black legislators voted for or against the compromise version of the bill. Perhaps some voted for it because the flag would be removed from the dome. Perhaps others opposed it because of its continued presence on the Statehouse grounds.
My point in replying was to clarify that Pinckney did not vote for the compromise due to being granted absence by the Speaker. Speculation as to how he would have voted, had he been present is equally futile.
FITS, if your wish to have the flag taken down and it happens, what will the next trophy for blacks be? The magnolia tree? Streets bearing names of those involved the War of 1861-65? All plantations plowed under? Ad infinitum. The flag was not, in any way, the cause of what happen in Charleston. Most intelligent people would agree. Sadly for this great nation, IMO, most blacks, including our president, really and truly hate whites and their angry will probably never cease until the white population is extinct. I am truly sadden of what happened in Charleston and pray for those harmed by such a cruel, heinous act.
Blaming anything on the flag is an exercise for the intellectually lazy.
Normal people don’t care either way about the flag. They have more important issues to think about. Symbols like the flag are for the special interest that make money off it (NAACP, white supremacy groups, etc) or for the stupid or vapid.
If you have tie to worry about the flag you have time to do something productive. Go to church, help your neighbor, mentor a kid. Be productive, not a puppet.
“Blaming anything on the flag is an exercise for the intellectually lazy.”
That’s a fancy way of saying “liberal”. Everytime the flag comes up these idiots come out of the woodwork and a handful realize at what it will take to take it down, and the legislature is set up so that it’ll never come down. So rather than get involved in something constructive, they rant and rave about something that is completely out of their control and almost 0% chance of happening. They’d be better off rallying for the black family unit which is non-existent. The family unit, education, and work ethic have all but disappeared in their culture. The few that do push through and excel in all three do very well in the workforce.
The ruling by the Supreme Court this week about the Confederate license tag in Texas just may be the death knell in the distance for all these ‘government speech’ Confederate flags still flying.
So they’re going to make states like Georgia change their state flags?
When you just step back and think about it, it is insane that the United States of America EVER allowed the flying of any flag associated with an armed rebellion against it anywhere.
It is and has ALWAYS been an overtly seditious and treasonous act and needs to be dealt with in those terms instead of whining about it being a ‘symbol of hate’.
That flag is a memorial to those who fought for their families, country and way of life. Just as much as those on the other side. They should be honored as we would honor any other soldier in any other war. They fought for what they thought was right as much as any other. It has nothing to do with race, hate or any of the other “reasons” those who try to detract from it would have you believe. Just another pack of lies to further a cause.
They were traitors to the United States of America who broke away so they could keep black people as slaves, as almost totally free labor.
Or, so the plantation owner up the road could keep slaves and they wanted to keep on his good side.
They were too stupid to realize supporting an economic system based on slave labor was actually detrimental to them…’voting’ against their own best interests even then.
If you want to honor them, do it in your front yard.
That flag has no place on any state house grounds anywhere.
Except the way of life was based on the domination of African Americans via slavery. See – bit of a difference. Also, there were a number of folks who sided with the British in York – shall we start flying the flag of England or Great Britain at the county courthouse in say York County? Even better, Rogue, many Gullah folk came from Sierra Leone. Let’s agree to put the flag of Sierra Leone next to the Stars and Bars. That way we can honor all the great warriors.
Wow I’m so moved and grateful for leadership voice on this issue – thank you so very very much
Take down the flag and replace it with the Ten Commandments…from Newton to Colombine…from Blacksburg to Aureau…to right here in SC… Thou shalt not kill is a message young and old need to hear…
Even better, replace with a monument to State Senator Pinkney.
Will it have the lifelike bullet hole in his head?
The Confederate soldier statue should then have him without one leg, with a rough turkey-oak crutch, shoeless and in rags, and emaciated, how he looked at the end.
I would like to see the Confederate rag dragged down if for no other reason than it would deeply piss off those who most deserve to be so, the degraders of the state.
If the Battle Flag still flew over the State House, this tragedy would have been much worse.
If the flag were totally removed from the State House grounds, this tragedy wouldn’t be a big deal.
Got it.
The Flag is much more important that the lives of the folks in this situation.
That’s just about the dumbest thing I’ve heard all month.
All of you folks in here that thinks a Flag causes this trouble are without a doubt severely handicapped. You have as much rationale about you as that flag!
They will be waving the colors of the Gay movement.
Will George Washington’s statue be next?
The NAACP’s boycott tactics have been stupid. Stupid.
They need to enlist Germans to picket BMW headquarters in Germany,
People need to picket Boeing in Washington state.
They need to start the picketing at Volvo headquarters in Sweden.
They need to run ads in Canada with pictures of the Confederate flag asking: Is Myrtle Beach REALLY where you want to vacation?
And,
they need to understand that boycotts are designed to make businesses
pay an economic price. That means no more Black Expos all over the
state. And, no more people hauling into SC for family reunions and no
more Black Biker Week at Atlantic Beach until that flag is down.
And,
then they need to go after the states with the Confederate flag
incorporated into the state flag like Georgia and Mississippi.
Play to win.
Instead they play to show (off).
Self defeating.
We need to make sure there are photos of the redneck dregs who will stage the almost-certain pro-flag counter demonstrations later. It will likely be a crowd indistinguishable from that at a gun show or tractor pull.
Why?
And yes they will stand out against the freaks who think protesting and marching actually accomplish something. You’ll have the fat white cat ladies who have never been kissed and think their opinion matters, the old hippies who are still living in the 60’s and the early 20-somethings who think they know what’s right about everything, the politicians who are up for reelection, and the black community leaders who live to bitch. Not to forget the people who will have Hillary for President bumper stickers on their Priuses.
The redneck pro-flagers will likely include many with that flushed red-faced clench-jawed hater look. They always do.
So, it’s 7:00pm now. Did anyone show up for the flag rally?
Looks like the rally is a bust. On WIS they just stated that the rally organizers were hoping for 3000 to turn out and they estimate that the crowd is approaching 1000. Give it two weeks and nobody will give a shit, they’ll be too concerned about what they’re doing for the 4th. After that it’ll be a faint memory.
In The State’s article about the flag rally they quoted “John Courson, a Marine veteran”. John Courson was in the Marines during the Vietnam War, but few realize that because of his political ties he got a detail where he never left the country… MARINE JOHN COURSON NEVER US SOIL DURING THE VIETNAM WAR. He tries to come off as some Marine hero, but the old bastard never had any combat experience after boot camp.
Lindsey Graham has more combat experience than John Courson.
The State always adds a thousand or so, when the NAACP is involved. Looked to me like about 400. I would have taken pictures, but my damn Verizon phone crapped out on me. Anyway, there were some people there. Mostly old Democrats.
In My Outsider Opinion …
Y’all are worse than a bunch of meskin/California gangbangers arguing about which color t-shirt is proper attire on who’s turf.
Right now I will be selling short certain badge and t-shirt manufacturers … Then later on I may go long … Unless you Fascist/fashion experts decide to go after someone else’s symbols.
Can we please concentrate on more important issues? Are any of you even a bit interested in the classic liberal proposals for a Flat Tax? (Rand Paul is. Ted Cruz is. The Donald is. Hillary Clinton isn’t.)
This is what happens when you have to come across the country into the heart of the Old South to find a Libertarian blog.
Now, what does that tell you about Libertarianism?
BTW, look up top. You will find “US Politics”. Maybe, you will find what you want there.
This symbol shaking discourse appears to an outsider to be as about as political as it gets. And a real diversion, calculated to take eyeballs off of more relevant issues.
Maybe y’all are too close to that already well watered tree to see it … My opinion … Just saying.
We can take it down an place it a few blocks down the road in the SC State Museum, but this still won’t be good enough for those who benefit from the controversy.
Two more mass shooting in the US yesterday (Saturday), not headline news across the country, not mentioned on national news programs. In both cases 10 people shot. Shooter was black, so it’s being reported on Page 3 of the local newspaper.

You want to remove the flag fine …
Now why don’t we finish ” The work ”
You need to rename Fort Hood / Fort A.P. Hill / Fort Gordon / Fort Polk / Fort Benning ect …
You need to rename how many High schools, middle schools and elementary schools
Lee, Jackson, Davis , Sturat
You need to rename how many public parks , Confederate Park – Lee Park ect ..
You need to rename a few highways eg. Lee highway ( Rt 29 in Virginia )
until all this is done … It is work in VAIN !
Nope, don’t need to do any of that. Just the flag will come down. And later the Tillman statue. And still later the Confederate soldier statue will go to some honored place in a memorial park nearby.
1865 – the United STATE of America is born.
Ok, but if you take the flag down, then you also have to take down all the icons of black culture, ie, statues of MLK, et al. Otherwise, it will be considered nothing more than racism toward southern whites
