PHASE ONE OF BARACK OBAMA’S CRONY CAPITALIST TRADE PUSH CLEARS “REPUBLICAN” HOUSE

|| By FITSNEWS || U.S. president Barack Obama‘s effort to ram a crony capitalist trade deal through the U.S. Congress scored a major victory this week.

By a narrow 218-208 margin, the first key component of “Obamatrade” – dubbed Trade Promotion Authority (TPA or “fast track”) – cleared the so-called “Republican” U.S. House of Representatives.  Assuming the U.S. Senate concurs, this means Congress will have surrendered its authority to amend, debate or oversee the implementation of Obama’s secretive Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal – the second key component of Obamatrade.

It would only have the option of voting “aye” or “nay” on the secretive pact.

We’ve written exhaustively on this issue – debunking the idea that Obama’s secretive Pacific Rim pact is “free trade.”  It isn’t.  We’ve also written extensively on how the deal is bad for the national economy and for the economy here in South Carolina.

Astoundingly, only two of the six “Republican” members of the Palmetto State’s so-called “conservative” congressional delegation – Jeff Duncan and Mick Mulvaney – ultimately voted against the first gut check Obamacare vote.

How disappointing …

Obviously we knew fiscally liberal lawmakers Tom Rice and Joe Wilson were going to vote for Obamatrade (they typically do whatever U.S. Speaker John Boehner tells them to do) – and we knew Mark Sanford has been selling out left and right since returning to Congress in 2013.

So those three votes were sad, but not surprising …

But Trey Gowdy?  This is a guy who recently stood up to the Obama administration on the issue of open borders … so seeing him vote to grease the skids for a deal shredding our nation’s already lax immigration laws is just unfathomable.

And hugely disappointing …

Obamatrade’s future remains uncertain.  Even if the “fast track” bill makes it to Obama’s desk, there’s no guarantee it will result in the passage of his secretive trade deal.  But Gowdy, Rice, Sanford and Wilson had a chance to kill this thing – and didn’t.

They had a chance to stand for South Carolina workers – and stand against Obama’s overreach.  Instead, they sold our citizens down the river while simultaneously enabling yet another power grab from a guy who has abused his authority at literally every turn.

Shameful … on multiple levels.

Good job, make sure Obama takes the heat for something Republicans are ramming through despite Democrat opposition.

Agreed … But the High Catbird Seat wants it, therefore He owns it.

You’re wrong. Congress will have 60 days to debate TPP once its released. For someone who is so certain about the bill, you’re really clueless about its specifics.

Wanna bet? Have you seen it? Has anyone read it yet? The vote has now passed and the bill(s), warts and all, are now supposed to be exposed to congress right now. What’s the holdup?

TPA is a good thing. Makes it easier to negotiate if both sides know that the agreement can’t be modified or changed by self-serving, partisan politicians. Congress still has the final say…yes or no. I don’t get what the problem is.

Can’t be changed by The People, either, you stupid “progressive” Helot.

FastEddy23, you stupid liberal, if Congress changes TPP, what’s to prevent Vietnam or Burma from also changing it and not to our liking? You idiot, changes have to be made by negotiations. Never in the history of the world has a trade pack among several countries been enacted with each country’s legislature unilaterally making changes. Suppose Congress changes TPP after another country has approved a negotiated treaty?

This is the same quandary that Kerry/Obama/Clinton are trying to get installed with the Iranians. A trade agreement without quid-pro-quo is a coming.

Again, listen to what Milton Friedman has to say about “trade deals”.

We are living currently under those very same unilateral trade laws that Friedman complained about.

… except we are talking here about Trade Tariffs and Trade Taxes and Trade Scams and Trade Skims by the pool-wogs in DC, etc.

The economics of international trade itself always follows Adam Smith’s Invisible Hand and has nothing at all to do with the scandalous seizures and theft by Gruberment.

Free Trade Happens. And g’ment lies about how much they really intend it steal from that activity.

Bible Thumper June 19, 2015 at 5:33 pm

It’s not as simple as Adam Smith’s day. Vietnam is a member of this treaty. There have to be rules about foreign ownership of property, safety for investments and passports and visas for owners and key employees. Also trademark, copyright and patent protection. Also rules have to be made for products made in multiple counties. Some of those countries may not be members of TPP.

That’s why it is so secretive. The negotiations are ongoing. No nation has approved it. Wait until it is published. You have 60 days to debate it’s merits.

FastEddy23 June 24, 2015 at 11:22 am

“… There have to be rules about foreign ownership of property, safety for investments and passports and visas for owners and key employees. …”

Which is almost always handled by general treaties, ratified specifically by The Senate, and signed as International treaties in full public view … the wording of such never, ever being a part of a covert power/money grab. As a last resort, countries with certain peculiarities of history or political belief can always resort to the UN and the “World Court” for clarifications.

In other words NONE of that should be in a “half-fast track” covert agreement.

Bible Thumper June 24, 2015 at 11:44 am

Because Russia, China and others will not agree on an international treaty that covers the areas you mention we are left with having to make regional treaties to address those issues in full public view for 60 days prior to passage.
This will bust up the corrupt nexus between corporate welfare queens and unions paid for on the backs of consumers and free labor.

That would be because it ain’t free: there are added taxes in it, there are changes in illegal immigrant status in it, there are even cost benefit “adjustments” re: BummerCare in it …

And basic economic common sense says that any secret trade deals are bound to be a net fiscal negative for The People.

It reduces taxes. It does not change the status of anyone that enters the country illegally.

Duncan and Mulvaney voted with the other liberals like Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Steny Hoyer, Elijah Cummings and Charles Rangel.

Money is flowing in the halls of Congress. A vote like this can double the cash commitments from the corporate interest that will profit from this “trade bill.”

It is disgusting to see again how the GOP caves when it matters, and argues to the death when it does not matter.

We have been sold out yet again but our “conservative representatives” in DC.
