Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton Renew Assault On Second Amendment

AFTER CHARLESTON, ANOTHER ANTI-GUN CRUSADE IS UNDERWAY …

|| By FITSNEWS || The blood spilled during a murderous rampage at a historic black church in Charleston, S.C. has scarcely dried, but Democratic politicians are already pouncing on the tragedy as an excuse to limit the constitutionally protected right of American citizens to bear arms.

“We don’t have all the facts, but we do know that once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun,” U.S. president Barack Obama said during a press briefing in Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile across the country Hillary Clinton – the presumed Democratic nominee and favorite to follow Obama into office in 2016 – called for the country to examine “hard truths” related to gun violence.

“We have to face hard truths about race, violence, guns and divisions,” Clinton said during a speech in California. “How many innocent people in our country – from little children, church members to movie theater attendees – how many people do we need to see cut down before we act?”

“Let’s unite in partnership, not just to talk but to act,” Clinton added, although she did not offer any specific proposals to accompany her rhetoric.

Around 9:00 p.m. EDT on Wednesday, a suspect believed to be 21-year-old Dylann Storm Roof – who is white – opened fire on black parishioners at the historic Mother Emanuel AME Church in downtown Charleston, S.C.  Nine people including the church’s pastor – S.C. Senator Clementa Pinckney – were killed during the attack.

(For more on Roof, click here).

This website condemns Obama and Clinton’s assault on the Second Amendment.  In fact we condemn it every bit as strongly as we condemn the deplorable violence which precipitated it.

As we’ve repeatedly pointed out, elevated levels of firearm ownership translate into less crime.  For those of you slow on the uptake or wrapped up in the emotion of the moment, we’ll repeat: More guns = less crime.

The senseless slaughter of nine people in Charleston is a terrible tragedy.  And it does require us to confront many “hard truths.”

But attacking the ability of people to defend themselves against armed aggressors is not the answer … unless of course the objective is to increase the frequency and severity of such attacks.

This may not be the popular view in light of current events, but it remains the right one …

There was a school somewhere some years back, I believe before the “Safe Schools (GFZ) Act” where a teacher retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and halted one of these incidents.

Almost 100% of these incidents occur in Gun Free Zones. Only an idiot could fail to see you are not safe in a GFZ.

Oct. 1, 1997
Luke Woodham fatally stabbed and bludgeoned his mother and went on to kill two students and injure seven others at his high school. Woodham was stopped by Assistant Principal Joel Myrick, a U.S. Army Reserve commander, who detained Woodham by using a .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol he kept in his truck, until authorities could show up.

Myrick stopped Woodham from going across the street to the middle school………

Here are the ones I found rather quickly.

1. The Pearl High School shooting
2. The Parker Middle School dance shooting
3. The Appalachian School of Law shooting
4. The New Life Church shooting
5. The Trolley Square shooting
6. The Golden Market shooting
7. The New York Mills AT&T store shooting
8. The Clackamas Town Center shooting
9. The San Antonio Theater shooting

You pulled these off “buzzfeed”, but forgot to mention that the incidents were either over when the event was “stopped by the gun owner”, or the individual who intervened was a trained law enforcement officer (or military reservist) … sorry, you fail on this one…

I took the quickest list I found. I read through them. Anyone else can Google the Details if they wish. The question wast to explain all the details behind them. Your reading comprehension is poor. You fail.

Was the New Life Church incident you mentioned the one in Spartanburg County around a year ago? If not, that one needs to be added to the list. That’s the one where the nut showed up during services with a shotgun. People inside saw the car, driven by his sister, pull up and him get out with a shotgun. They locked the door but he managed to force his way in, at which time the pastor’s grandson (a CWP holder) got the drop on the nutter, who was then disarmed and held for police.

Sorry, but I can’t help but wonder how much better things might have turned out in Charleston if, rather than oppose and have disdain for CWP, Rev Pinckney had embraced it somewhat as was the case in Spartanburg.

Reply
Quietus June 20, 2015 at 5:24 pm

No but we can add it to the list. The one I was speaking of was in Colorado in 2007.

The 2007 Colorado YWAM and New Life shootings were a killing spree that occurred on December 9, 2007. In the early morning hours, 24-year-old Matthew J. Murray opened fire at the Youth With A Mission training center in Arvada, Colorado, with a pistol, killing two and wounding two others before escaping. Later that afternoon, he attacked the New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with a number of firearms, killing two more people and injuring three before being shot and wounded by a member of the church’s congregation; he then committed suicide.

Never mind that the SC Legislature believes Gun Free Zones such as churches, schools, hospitals, government buildings, and more is the way to go, even though almost 100% of these mass murders occur in GFZ’s. Ditto when they passed “shall issue” CWP back in 1996, or any other time an attempt was made to liberalize ownership, possession, or carry of firearms by citizens? Have there been incidents of shootings? Yes, same as there were BEFORE any of these changes were made in existing laws. I don’ t believe there was any discernable uptick in unlawful shootings as a result. Heck, even though almost all (if not 100%) of participants in such incidents don’t have CWP’s and limely would not be eligible for one due to prior criminal history, shootings in Richland County thug bars seem to have dropped since passage of “restaurant carry”.

It is never too early for a “knee jerk” and Obama and Clinton were out on cue.
Within twenty four hours they were out making a disturbing personal behavioral issue by a young man into a political issue. Catch the public when the emotions are high(within less than half a day after this tragedy) to make a political point.
This violence is caused by individuals with deep psychological problems who are driven by their emotions to commit such deeds. Guns did not cause these people to commit these crimes, they were driven to it by an unstable life that their emotional distress had induced. The gun is only one of many tools available to carry out the deed for this racist. Putting onerous restrictions on guns will not solve the root problem. Identifying these people early and monitoring their activities, supplying social services and restricting certain activities may be in order. Politicians should be last on the list of groups we want to solve this problem.
We can’t let the actions of a few control the Constitutional rights and privileges of the many. I wish grading out a person’s emotional stability was as easy grading out food and other products.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt June 19, 2015 at 7:14 pm

Mass shootings occur pretty much only in America on the scale they do.

Mike at the Beach June 19, 2015 at 10:07 am

That’s like saying if there were no armies we’d have no war. No drugs, and we’d have no addiction. True indeed. That’s sweet, but bears no relevance to the real world. Just like in Chicago, DC, and other “gun-free zone” crime ridden cities, we see that jackass criminals don’t seem to worry too much about these rules. If they’re willing to kill people, they’re certainly willing to violate silly”gun-free zones” laws. There are, however, very often NOT willing to shoot it out with a cop or armed security officer. Criminals are like water – they flow to the point of least resistance.

SCBlues June 19, 2015 at 10:12 am

What did I say that was not a fact? Your post was about facts and how they suck – I merely posted another fact.

Mike at the Beach June 19, 2015 at 10:15 am

When did I say they weren’t facts? I described them as “True indeed.” I just explained why it was irrelevant. It rained at my house yesterday. This is also a fact, and equally relevant to mass shootings.

SCBlues June 19, 2015 at 10:16 am

Irrelevant? I posted factual info you just do not like what I posted – man up, Michael.

Mike at the Beach June 19, 2015 at 10:22 am

No…try to keep up here. Of COURSE if there were no guns in school, there would be no school shootings. That’s pie in the sky logic, though. If there were no cancer cells, no one would die from cancer. You call the DOJ and tell them you have solved the mass shooting problem, and I’ll call the American Cancer Society and tell them I just cured cancer. We’ll see how excited everyone gets.

You can’t wish away evil dumbasses with guns by creating gun-free zones and laws any more than I can wish away cancer. I would love to be able to do both, but I can’t (and neither can you).

SCBlues June 19, 2015 at 11:38 am

Calm down now, Michael. You were talking about facts and I posted one. Facts are facts are facts. And what is really funny is the two that upvoted you, enema and Quietasshole! You are in good company there, Michael – keep up the good work!

Mike at the Beach June 19, 2015 at 11:57 pm

I’m calm, baby…living in the real world requires that. I’m simply trying to explain to you that facts are great. We all love facts, but alone they are just that – facts. You are missing the central point that the goal is to stop these shootings from happening – period. I don’t see how does spouting silliness like “if there were no guns in schools there would be no shootings” move us toward that goal. There are 400 million freaking guns in this country, and like it or not the private ownership of the vast majority of those are protected by the Constitution. We couldn’t even ban liquor a hundred years ago; banning guns is simply a non-starter. That’s just reality (and just as dumb as the far right kooks who think we can deport 11 million people). So, rather than print posters, we take simple steps to protect people. Armed protectors have been proven to stop these clowns – this is also a fact. People not trained in the law often forget that laws are designed for justice and society- they don’t “do” anything. We have laws to deal with the assholes who choose to ignore society’s rules. If we thought they would stop everyone we wouldn’t need penalty sections. Once your argument degenerated down into who upvotes me, I lost track…

SCBlues June 20, 2015 at 5:32 am

Not looking for you to “explain” things to me Michael – got a good head on my shoulders and my station in life proves that. You “explain” things to your little lady. I am not missing anything, Michael. I have never posted on here and never expressed to anyone that I was against private gun ownership and certainly understand the Second Amendment – even though many misconstrue it. Never ever talked about banning guns – most in my family are gun owners and well, they would “shoot me” if they heard me say that (and I do not mean that literally, Michael – just a figure of speech). And in regards to your last line, I was not arguing with you Michael – just making a valid, factual point – you always root folks on around here when they bring facts into the discussion – well, I just brought one into the discussion. That’s all.

Mike at the Beach June 20, 2015 at 9:07 pm

Don’t worry…I’m done trying. We’re in two different worlds – namaste!

SCBlues June 20, 2015 at 10:21 pm

LOL Oh I’m not worried and appreciate all of your efforts to explain things to me – perhaps you should just stick to explaining things to your little lady – my guess is she would be the type that would be much more receptive to all of your explanations. Namaste. Yeah. Whatever.

Mike at the Beach June 20, 2015 at 11:18 pm

You’re falling for your unrecognized biases again, it would appear. My “little lady” (as you condescendingly refer to her) earned the same graduate degrees I did, sits on a few pretty impressive boards, is still train smoke hot in her 40’s, and can most likely whip your shrill ass in chess in about 15 minutes. Unlike you, she is receptive to logic and rational rhetoric so I don’t have to explain much to her. You should try the whole logic thing one day…you may like it. Take you last shot- I’m out!

Limbaughsaphatkhunt June 19, 2015 at 7:14 pm

So we can’t have any laws whatsoever? We just give up. All too hard? Either we’re all in or completely ban something?

Mike at the Beach June 20, 2015 at 12:11 am

Okay… at least you quickly abandoned your silly straw man argument about arming kids. Of course we need laws; where in the world did you deduce that I was for decriminalizing mass shooting? Bizarre. As I said to SCBlues, however, we can’t put blind faith in laws to stop people from committing these heinous acts. Surely you get this – a sick ass punk like this Roof kid was already violating a whole raft of laws (including gun laws – illegally carrying it concealed, using it in the commission of a felony, etc.). Laws and courts serve many purposes in society – including both deterrence and punishment. We have to have both, and this horrible shooting is a perfect example of why. No law that could ever be written (even by God) will stop the Roofs of the world. In these instances, the law then serves to incapacitate and punish. The protection piece is a separate issue. Let’s say your kids and my kids are in school together one day, and the next Adam Lanza is strolling up to the front door with a gun. Everything he wants to do is already clearly illegal (including bringing the gun to the school), but despite knowing that he continues to the door. Do you want your kids “protected” by the fact that the gun he’s carrying had been rendered illegal by some statute last year, or by a cop wearing soft body armor and a .45? You make your choices, and I’ll make mine, but if ANY kids are in that building I’ll go with the cop. Every time.

Nice straw man you created there. Even the untrained idiots on this comment board have never suggested arming kids. Cops at schools prevent mass shootings (and a lot of other drama); gun-free zones or armed children do not. Even for your Kool-Aid drinking self this was a pretty dumb stretch. ;-)

Mike at the Beach June 19, 2015 at 10:07 am

Even first year students at a tech school can’t use Wikipedia as a source, but more importantly you are missing the point by a mile or so. All of the psychological studies on school studies prove that the weird profile of these mass shooter clowns includes a couple of key elements, the most critical of which is a “good” body count through which to become famous. An armed protector (SRO, security guards, etc.) at the school precludes this. “Gun-free zones” and laws do not. Surely you see how laughable it is to believe that a damaged dumbass who is willing to shoot a dozen people to get his (I say his because mass shooters are almost exclusively male, and white, by the way) 15 minutes of fame would somehow be deterred by the fact that it’s illegal to carry a gun?

How is registering a gun “onerous”
How is a background check “onerous”
And what is it about the 2nd Amendment referencing a militia that confuses you?

Gun was apparently a gift. I don’t see how any changes in any laws can undo that or even address it.

But I could see how someone in or around the church who just happened to have a pistol or a can of mace or a taser might have changed that outcome. Maybe. No disrespect intended.

One thing is for sure – we know of one person who did have a gun. Maybe if that one person did not have a gun that might have changed the outcome.
And how do you know that someone in or around the church did not have a pistol or a can of mace or a taser?

Cool. Enforce the current law. Jail his dad who broke the law by giving him the gun when his background check would have stopped it.

How many other constitutional rights do you want to register? I know let’s register for the 8th amendment. That way if you aren’t registered we can torture you and execute you by burning at the stake, lions, drawing and quartering or the Vikings favorite “The Bloody Eagle”. Then the government can have your name on a list. I mean you don’t need to register for the get out of torture free card if you aren’t doing anything wrong, right?

Now FastEddy – You’re going a wee bit overboard here – I don’t think you have anything to worry about from Clinton or Obama – now if you’re going hunting with Cheney, well, then you might need some protection.
As expected the tenor of Fits’ reporting on this tragedy quickly shifted to appease the usual suspects – I was actually expecting one of his regular reports on Congressman Clyburn so the usual yelps could be heard – but I guess throwing out a little red meat that the Second Amendment is under attack (AGAIN) from Obama works too. Yet I still predict a Congressman Clyburn report within a week – and you’ll read the same old comments from the same old folks on here – yawn.
You do have to give Fits credit though – sure knows his audience and knows how to get ’em riled up – plays ’em like a fiddle. So amusing to sit back and watch.
Oh – almost forgot. How are things in Taxifornia doing Eddy? Heard it is a “little dry” . . . drinking your pee yet? Hang in there – grass will be growing in no time and there’ll be lots of lawns to mow and that push mower – ooops my bad – that “durable medical equipment” – will be chugging along.

And you are a willing dupe of “progressive” Fascism to say that.

You might be interested in Hayek’s “The Road To Serfdom”, chapter two. All that is needed is a “strong man” at the top to turn any “progressive” movement into outright Fascism. Historically, the only thing “progressive thinking” has ever brought is grief, gulags and graves.

Well, I say a big FUCK YOU to the gun nuts and NRA crowd. Fuck your 2nd Amendment. We are not talking about jack boots taking your stupid guns. We are talking about common sense gun control that pretty much every other advanced nation has and subsequently has fewer gun related deaths. Fewer guns = fewer deaths. Plain and simple.

Freedom is good, but only if you can stay alive to enjoy it.

I am also for sensible gun control, but the “fewer guns = fewer deaths” thing isn’t quite accurate. We’ve had a bizarre explosion (no pun intended) in gun ownership in this country, to the point that (depending upon which study you believe) there are significantly more guns than people in the US now, like 400,000,000 of them! There has not, however, been a corresponding rise in murders and firearms assaults. As a matter of fat, most of the top cities for murders and firearms assaults are already very tightly gun controlled.

If you were meaning that fewer guns in the hands of felons and the mentally ill, then I’m with you because THAT has been proven to be true.

Socrates June 19, 2015 at 1:16 am

As an anti- American i want more guns for US citizen, including easy access for the mentally instable and those with criminal backgrounds. I am against abortion in the US since the majority of kids will become new members of your lower classes and a significant burden on your health, social and prison services. I am against educating them since I want to ensure a low level of skills to further create enormous burden on the social and health services and make sure they cannot support themselves. Then I need to ensure that they have easy access to weapons in particular assault guns. Please read from top again – these policies will allow us to to shrink the US militarily since recruiting standards will not be met, technologically ( science will be done by Asians helped by Europeans) and politically (no civil society will be possible anymore).
PLEASE defend and expand on your second amendment, ban all abortions, cut educations ( in particular higher education). We will watch your Hunger Games and take over in about 20 years.

This is what I cannot understand in 21st Century America as a well educated American. Someone tired to blow up an airplane with a shoe bomb and now everyone that chooses to fly in this world has to take their shoes off when they get on an airplane. However, America has had many major domestic terrorist attacks since 2005 that took the lives of hundreds of innocent Americans and government has done absolutely nothing to address the issues in play. We are just as vulnerable for another one of these events to happen as we were 10 years ago. They have done zero for mental health care and even less to ensure guns (which have proven to be weapons of mass destruction) stay out of the hands of crazy people. Every single one of these shooters obtained weapons through legal means and were not mentally stable human beings. We spend billions of taxpayer dollars every year making sure marijuana does not get into the hands of college kids. We need to spend more ensuring deadly weapons do not end up in the hands of crazy people. Something has got to change because this is not acceptable with the technology that the CIA and FBI institute to prevent terrorism in today’s America. The rest of the developed world does not have these issues at the rate that we do and we are a lot better than the majority of those countries.

Jonny Logic June 19, 2015 at 8:43 am

Couldn’t have said it better, except for your last line. Are we really better than these countries when we kill each other at such an extraordinary rate?

If we have issues because we refuse to do things about it, and other countries don’t have these issues because they have done things about it, then it stands to reason we aren’t better than the majority of those countries. You can be both really successful and really, really fucking dumb.

Rocky June 19, 2015 at 8:18 am

Who says you have to restrict access to guns. Instead, simply attach a requirement for liability insurance when you purchase a firearm. That doesn’t necessarily restrict your access to firearms from legal buyers. The private sector insurance companies will determine who to manage the risk and quantify it, and determine the premium structures. If you’re a high risk, your premium is higher. Folks who are responsible have lower premiums. Doesn’t restrict those who want carry permits. Doesn’t restrict hunters, doesn’t restrict anyone.

One little problem. It WOULD be an infringement on a right which is not supposed to be infringed. All of the stuff you noted is from current automobile law. Does it keep habitual drunk and impaired drivers off of the road? Do we have an enviable traffic fatality rate as a result? Does it drain the budget of the average person or household, significantly?

Is it possible that more guns = less crime AND more guns = more mass shootings, more suicides, more domestic violence murders, more accidental shootings, more young children getting access to improperly stored guns? I think the answer is yes.

Reply
nitrat June 19, 2015 at 8:48 am

Yeah. But, there is absolutely no evidence that more guns = less crime.

In fact ‘more guns = less crime’ is based on discredited data from 1997.

I would provide a link, but it the site won’t take it. So, you will have to search ‘more guns more crime’ yourself.

Who cares? Obama is giving lip service to appease his base for something he’ll never accomplish, not with a Republican controlled House and Senate. It is empty rhetoric, treat it as such.

Reply
nitrat June 19, 2015 at 8:56 am

And, one day the Republican controlled House and Senate will pay a price for all the blood they have on their hands.
But, since Americans are apparently not as highly evolved as the rest of the developed world, there will be a lot more killings they will have to account for by the time they meet their maker.
And, just because everything that Republicans do is to appease one extreme fringe ‘base’ after another, the fringes of crazies they have to cobble together to get to a majority now and then, doesn’t mean some politicians do not actually care that Americans die for nothing due to one failed Republican policy after another.
