Gee whilikers. Why shuoldn’t we believe it. I lived in a neighborhood with block busting in the 1960s. My family was the last to leave, wanting to believe that it could work. WRONG. People don’ t value what they are given for free. The neighborhood took a dive, as the new residents took their windfall and succeeding in intimidating residents, not respecting other people property, littering, and bringing with them the same poor behaviors that they got away with in the ghettos- increased drugs, crime, etc…. The original people fled, losing $$ in the resale of their homes.

My own experience with neighborhoods where blacks moved in has been that it caused some consternation, but ultimately they were far better neighbors than come of the caucasoids, and there was no devaluation of property value. Also no mass exodus. This was in the ’90s, in a community near Kernersville NC, later annexed to Winston-Salem.
Let’s just go ahead and put up a few of these at the White Hut, and on Congressional Hill. Gotta put your money where your ass is.

Problem could be solved quickly if US Corporations would make an effort to build stores in areas that are in need of adequate opportunities for a variety of services instead of throwing up mini malls all over the suburbs of this country….until someone out there in the private sector is willing to risk a couple of percentage points off of their yearly gains to try and make a difference in this land the have will continue to get more and the have nots will continue to struggle to survive…and that goes for both races

This has already happened in Columbia. Just look at Irmo and the Lake Carolina area. They built Section 8 housing under the theory that placing inner city families in the suburbs would somehow rid those families of their pathologies. Unfortunately the pathologies were contagious and the areas into which they moved are now blighted and somewhat undesirable.
TROOF. Irmo is well on its way to shithole status thanks to section 8. Kroger has that “you might get stabbed” feeling. White flight is in full effect. I am surprised they have not cut off Hwy 6 to prevent it spreading to Lexington.

At one time, in this country, there was the concept of get an education, get a job, then get married, then have kids, and then pay your own damn way. That concept is now held in disdain, because anyone wanting to keep and spend their own money is a greedy sonofabitch. Taking your money, transferring it to non-producers so they can get a free ride is now considered an actual viable economic concept by the Obama administration. I can spend my own money to spur on economic growth, why do I need to give it to someone else?

All this will do is drive those with money further out of the cities and urban areas, ultimately leading to blighted suburbs.
That is already happening in some subdivisions. The older ones are being turned into rental units as the more affluent move on to bigger and newer homes. That leaves the older houses more dilapidated and thus lowering their value so the real estate cos. buy them as rentals. Lowering their value even more. I have a friend that has been watching as her neighborhood has gone down like this but she is to old to move.
My next move will be well out into the country with a minimum of 100 acres.

Back in the early 70’s my wife and I did the suburbia thing. It didn’t take long to decide it would be better to do with less and live on the farm. As things turned out we are better off living on the farm and we only see two other houses, my sister-in-law and my niece. It meant a lot of commuting to work down through the years but it was worth it.
When we moved back to Columbia eight years ago we seriously considered Fairfield County but wound up in Richland to be near my aging parents, in the next three years or so we’ll be reviewing that decision.
So the good news is you and you friend won’t have to worry about this much longer.

First this will not be “Obama’s HUD.” Buy the time the comment period is up and any rule is enacted, there will be a new President. (Assuming of course Obama does not suspend the elections, as part of his Texas invasion.)
The proposed new rule does not forcibly do anything. It leaves everything up to local government. The proposed new rule simply says, If you want HUD Money for affordable housing, you must show your project will decrease segregation, and that you are placing HUD subsidized housing in areas with good schools, jobs, and infrastructure. Not in the worst part of town, which you then ignore and zone into the worst school district. Essentially, if the community is not willing to do that, it will no longer qualify for HUD affordable housing money. No one is forcing anyone to take the money from HUD. Communities have no obligation to participate. But that may be over the head of most wingnuts.
One thing is clear, election time is near. The n****** are coming, the n****** are coming. Vote republican, and we will protect you from the n******. Vote Democrat and the n*****s will take your house. This is the same line SCRepublicans have been using 30 years. Lee Atwater would love this type of article. Please note: I refer to putting impoverished people in far more affluent neighborhoods. It does not work. It has never worked, and you can’t make it work. In another comment on this page, I mention that my home in Winston-Salem (which my ex now owns complete, though it was not part of the divorce) was in a middle-class neighborhood where middle-class blacks moved in, in relatively small numbers, and it caused no problems or devaluation of property. That was not done by design. It just happened, and it all worked out fine.
