ANOTHER ABRUPT DEPARTURE FROM STATUS QUO RAG
|| By FITSNEWS || On the same day we called out The (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier for its latest shameful status quo accommodation, the paper has lost yet another reporter.
And he didn’t go quietly, either …
S.C. State House reporter Jeremy Borden is no longer with the “Post and Corruption,” an outlet whose slavish devotion to influential politicians and corporations we’ve repeatedly documented (HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE).
According to media watchdog Corey Hutchins, Borden is the “latest young reporter to abruptly leave” the paper.
So … what happened?
“It’s fair to say that there was a difference in perception over the direction and tenor of coverage,” Borden told Hutchins.
Whoa …
Borden did not immediately respond to our request for elaboration on that comment, but we’re digging.
An Illinois native, Borden previously worked for The Washington Post, The Daily Progress in Charlottesville, Va., The Roanoke Times and The Charlotte Observer.
UPDATE: Borden says he “can’t” elaborate on his statement, which he asked us to run in its entirety. So here goes: “It’s fair to say that there was a difference in perception over the direction and tenor of coverage. That said, covering the South Carolina Statehouse was the whirlwind that I expected — there has rarely been a dull moment. I have developed great relationships here, and I wish everyone involved the best, including everyone at the newspaper and in the capitol press room.”

is the post and courier a privately owned business? or do you think news reporting should be among the ‘core functions’ of government you’re always ranting about?
Folks only wants enterprise to be privately owned when they bend to his mores. When they are privately owned, as the Post and Courier is, and hold opinions opposite to those of Folks, then they are evil incarnate.
WOW – so disappointed in P&C. The “other” reporter Cynthia Roldan is so biased towards Nikki Haley – I am not sure she can see the light of day. Sad that none of the 3 “major newspapers – P & C, The State and Greenville News do not have ANY non-biased reporters. Would be nice to be able to read the news without a decided slant to it.

Attorneys for The Sun News and investigative reporter David Wren have filed an appeal in the lawsuit of Myrtle Beach area lobbyist Mark Kelley, according to court records.
The notice was filed with the S.C. Court of Appeals a month after an Horry County jury ruled in favor of Kelley against the newspaper and Wren on claims Kelley was defamed in articles written in 2010 about campaign contributions made a year earlier.
On May 8, the jury awarded $400,000 in actual damages and $250,000 in punitive damages against the newspaper and Wren. The jury deliberated for more than four hours before reaching unanimous verdicts on the two types of damages.
Kelley filed the suit in May 2012 against Wren and The Sun Publishing Co., seeking actual damages to compensate for “his loss of and/or damage to his good name, his personal and business reputation,” according to the suit.

Is this the same libel case in which alleged sexual harasser and now-resigned state legislator Nelson Hardwick was a star witness for Kelley?
I don’t know.Only thing I know is that the reporter that was sued and LOST is apparently at the P&C.
Ha!. Yes, that’s the case where just about every “star” witness for the plaintiff also was the recipient of thousands of dollars worth of capaign fund cashier’s checks delivered by Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce officials

P & C was the only paper in the state to endorse Trikki in 2010.
I didn’t keep track in 2014. Did she pick up any other endorsements?

Not sure about the Post and Courier, but there has been some very good political coverage in The State. For example, reporters have offered a detailed account of the new DHEC director and her ties to Duke Energy. They’ve also pointed to the ongoing hypocrisy of Haley and her “business friendly” administration.
What
is really too bad is that no one has the time or ability to dig more
deeply and farther down into DHEC’s environmental division to reveal
the widespread dysfunction and frequent dishonesty, the widespread
lack of professionalism and lack of any true expertise (despite their
posing). Not corruption, per se, but cluelessness and cowardice and
lack of professional principles by middle management, and a lower
management either similarly afflicted or cowed. Competent concerned
staff are simply ignored. Water pollution and underground petroleum
tanks cry out for critical attention. But alas.
I hear you. The problems you mention don’t stand to offer Haley the political benefit she seeks with every move she makes. The state of SC is close to irrelevant for her.
I should have added that yes, it would be nice to see those problems exposed in the news as well.
Too bad for P&C. Jeremy is a fine young man and I am sure his career will excel now that he got out of P&C. That explains a lot why such a talented reporter published such one-sided and biased reports while at P&C. The situation must be just awful at P&C.

He supposedly left to become spokesman for the Charleston School of Law, reasoning it is a more reputable institution.

The Post and Courier sure shot itself in both feet with its support of a corrupt and now removed (thrown off the beach) Family Court Judge, Segars-Andrews. It was because the public rose up against that judge that she was taken down; not just one case against her. Back in the day, rumors swirled all over Charleston that the owners of the P&C were allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
