PALMETTO FAMILY COUNCIL: “WE ARE NOT A HATE GROUP”
|| By FITSNEWS || The social conservative group snubbed by Clemson University head football coach Dabo Swinney is firing back at its critics – disputing the allegation that it is a “hate group” and standing up for its record of defending “religious freedoms and liberties.”
The Palmetto Family Council – which was dissed by Dabo this week over its opposition to gay marriage – issued a scathing statement in response to the uproar over Swinney’s since-cancelled appearance.
“Recent false attacks from some angry liberal leaders in South Carolina have cast doubt on our organization, who we are and what we stand for,” Palmetto Family Council board chairman Reese Boyd III said in a statement. “These false attacks have gone so far as to insinuate we are a ‘hate group’ that aims to harm South Carolinians. Nothing could be further from the truth.”
According to Boyd, his organization is “committed to defending religious liberty and constitutional freedoms, and we honor others that stand up for those same liberties.”
“We have worked tirelessly in the Palmetto State promoting South Carolina values for over 21 years,” Boyd added. “In fact, we have fought for tougher human trafficking laws, tax credits for marriage counseling and to ban sexual predators from Facebook and allowing public officials to pray in their meetings. We care about South Carolina families and we honor those that also work to promote families.”
Boyd’s group also led the unsuccessful fight to preserve the Palmetto State’s 2006 ban on gay marriage – which was ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge last November. The issue of state marriage bans is currently pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.
This website – as repeatedly noted – opposes any government intervention in the institution of marriage. That decision ought to be left exclusively to individual congregations with no authorization or compulsion of any kind from government.

I applaud Dabo. I don’t want to hear a head coach promoting conservative political positions anymore than I want to hear snooty Hollywood actors promoting liberal positions. Knowing football or an academy award doesn’t mean you are an expert at everything.

Actually it’s more like the other way around. These groups are pro-family and pro-faith. The liberals are the ones cloaking themselves in self-righteousness by categorizing them as anti-gay simply for espousing a traditional view of marriage. It’s all really beside the point, because each side wants to make up their own definitions.

I hate Dabo and I hate queers, but I don’t think criticism of Dabo is fair here. The jackass just needed to end unnecessary bad publicity, regardless of the merits of the claims. There’s no time for that shit in football recruiting. It will probably hurt him as much as it will help with the opinions of recruits.
