Now the IRS (and the U.S. Department of Justice’s tax division) is being sued by another group over its questionable proximity to the administration of U.S. president Barack Obama.
Obama’s IRS was exposed two years ago for its discriminatory persecution of limited government groups (discrimination which continues to this day). According to the national advocacy group Cause of Action, there could be even more maliciousness afoot – as tax attorneys with access to confidential information have repeatedly been assigned to provide “legal advice” to Obama.
The group attempted to use the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in an effort to make sure government was preventing “confidential tax information (from) being shared with the wrong people,” but received no response.
Now it’s filed a complaint …
“Given the IRS’ track record of failing to protect confidential tax information, this lack of agency oversight is a threat to our privacy and democracy,” the group’s president said. “Ethical and legal protocols at these agencies should be held to the highest standards, especially when government attorneys are accessing confidential taxpayer return information while intermittently leaving to work in the White House.”

We’re grateful for groups like ALG and Cause of Action – both of which are performing vital watchdog roles over our increasingly untrustworthy federal government.
