COACH CANCELS APPEARANCE DUE TO “POLITICAL CONTROVERSY”
|| By FITSNEWS || Last month this website reported on Clemson University head football coach Dabo Swinney‘s decision to address a socially conservative organization.
“Yet to be determined? Whether he will fly to the event … or just drive there really fast,” we wrote. “Also yet to be determined? How Swinney plans on juxtaposing his view on paying college athletes with the whole ‘render unto Caesar’ bit.”
Sadly we’ll never know the answers to these questions …
Swinney has cancelled his appearance at the Palmetto Family Council’s twelfth annual “Celebrating Families” event, according to reporter Cassie Cope of The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper.
Swinney was supposed to receive an award from the group – the 2015 “South Carolina Family Champion” award – and speak to event attendees “about his life and walk.”
Now … not so much.
“I had no idea that I was being invited into a political controversy,” said Swinney, whose program was recently accused of promoting Christianity at the expense of other religions.
Hmmm …
As much as we poked fun at Swinney over his attendance at this event, we’re a bit disappointed by his decision to bail. First of all, it’s rude. Second of all, last time we checked he has the right to express his personal religious views free from discrimination … even if his views advocate for what some would view as discrimination.
Oh well …
S.C. House minority leader Todd Rutherford – who criticized Swinney’s decision to address the group last week – praised the coach’s reversal.
“We applaud Coach Swinney’s leadership and foresight on this very important issue,” Rutherford said. “It’s a testament to his character as an individual and coach. This is a sign of the significant progress the state of South Carolina has made with respect to tolerance and equal rights. I hope others follow Coach Swinney’s lead in standing up to groups like the Palmetto Family Council who seek to make discrimination legal and acceptable.”

Dabo Swinney receives Stallings Award

Dabo is running out of space to keep all his awards. Would Steve Spurrier mind if he stored them in the University of South Carolina’s trophy case as long as there is all that available space?
You might want to hold off on bringing Spurrier’s name in there, what with a Heisman trophy, All-American status, 1996 national championship and what not.
None of which happened at USC-E. Hence the room in the trophy case.
just as no one at Clemson now has anything to do with all but 1 trophy, and that year it proved to be a meaningless one. The kind they give out at little league for participation
A BCS bowl trophy is equivalent to a little league participation trophy?
When you didn’t even earn a spot in the game to start with it is. There were 5 teams ranked higher than Clemsux, (one of which was USC that beat them that same year too). but due to rules not allowing more than 2 teams from a conference which allowed them to back door into it. That proved without question the game pretty much was only as equal to a normal conference alignment bowl game.
Did Clemson set up the selection rules? Did USC-e by virtue of being in the SEC agree to the selection rules? So if you have a complaint, take it elsewhere. So the fact that Clemson “got in thru the back door” is the reason THE OSU lost?
It means the trophy isn’t worth all you taters think it is. Fact 5 better teams couldn’t play. Fact Clemson wasn’t the beast team in its division, conference or state that year. Fact you got in the back door and never deserved to be there (and you know it). Fact you didn’t even beat their starting line up at full strength. Should I go on?
Braxton Miller says Hi!
Wasn’t he transferring to USCe or something? EVerybody wants to be a ‘cock, amiright?
hahahaha
and he was hurt. he barely played. thanks for making MY point. face it you had no business there and you tainted the BCS to make it meaningless even though you try to claim it to be so important (and again you know its true).
Yes we was hurt….after Clemson’s LBs put a hurting on him. Face it, USCe has never played in and never will play in a BCS game. You can bitch and moan all you want to but that ship has sailed. So just be satisfied with all the SEC football championships USCe has won.
Oops! That should read “Yes he was hurt”
just keep acting like Clemtech belonged in the game and didn’t tarnish it so bad they changed the whole system. The Taters didn’t win the conference, division, state, and weren’t even ranked in the top 12 at the time to play. You can keep acting like it meant something to anyone outside of upstate SC.
So you admit that Clemson is the most powerful college football team. Why else would the whole college football world scrap the BCS system just so Clemson couldn’t get back in. Now explain to me why USCe never even got a sniff of a BCS game.
In no way does that say or imply that. I knew you were stupid. The system changed because a team so bad with no reason to be there was allowed to tarnish the level the bcs was supposed to be by getting to play it before 5 other teams better and more deserving. It caused it to be like a typical conference alignment agreement bowl game, and therefore was so tarnish they changed it to what is now. Only an idiot tater would have heard “clemtech does be good” from what I said. Thanks again for proving MY point.
Suggestions for “exactly”: (1) buy a dictionary (2) then look up the word sarcasm.
The problem is you weren’t being sarcastic. You and all other Taters really think that.
You DO realize Clemson won the game, right?
RIGHT?
2005 SEC Coach of the Year. 2010 SEC Coach of the Year. 6 Hardee’s Trophies, 5 bowl trophies. Think before you type, dumb bitch.
Dabo doesn’t deserve to breathe the same air as Spurrier. As usual, a tater can’t let yet another embarrassing story about their retarded cheerleader go without mentioning Spurrier. Those are some real impressive awards Dabo has racked up. Is the trophy case next to his Gamecock countdown clock? THE USC doesn’t matter is what you say, but your coach, and you, can’t stop thinking of them! HAHA!
Dabo needed more space for awards so Spurrier gave him the USCe SEC football championship trophy case since they had no use for it.
I hear the whitney hotel has some good rates when college football programs are looking for space to rent
From the articles & postings I’ve read on this site (and others), it appears that football IS a religion in South Carolina and Texas………………….
And that of course that explains a lot about both states…………….
If there is no football in Heaven, we ain’t go’in.
Football is a religion in South Carolina? My Lord. They are lucky to turn out ONE player a year that can play and be an impact player at a Top 20 program.
With less than 300 high schools it is slim pickins…and why Clemson and the Shamecocks live a life of football misery….
Speak for yourself, Gamecock.
Or buckeye, as your name would refer. If you’ll remember, Clemson beat Ohio state the last time they played.
And for the love of God, go back to Ohio.
so did South Carolina
They fired the coach right after that.

What I said on the last article written about this.
“Pretty sure “render unto Caesar” is used to justify the paying of taxes as lawful. I’m not sure how I see the parallel to paying athletes.”
Yeah, I know it’s cheesy to quote myself. However, Will does it all the time. Additionally, the author clearly didn’t read my comment on the prior article and research their improper reference to Caesar.
Now you just need to start referring to yourself as “we” and you are set.
In the words of Inigo Montoya… “You keep using that phrase. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
Classic!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JGp7Meg42U
That “render unto Caesar” is biblical. Back then Caesar had a Flat Tax of one part in twelve, about 8%, plus whatever the local taxsuckers could scam from the masses. The biblical “render” thingy was really meant to mean “render only unto Caesar”.
Way to go, Dabo.

The radical gay and homosexual perverts won again with their threats of boycotts, lawsuits and intimidation.Shame on you Dabo.
Won’t go on forever.People are figuring out how demented and evil this movement is.
Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha. Ha.
Your world is over. Done.
is face outing himself?
I don’t happen to be gay, but many, if not most, of the gay people I know tend to be very bright, witty individuals. You can imagine that I would prefer their company over people who believe the earth is 5,000 years old.
LMAO!!!! Never met ANYONE that says they are gay….or voted for Obama….
Ashamed much?
Really? I know lots of people who are out.
Doesn’t surprise me at all. You are known by the company you keep.
No doubt about that, and the company you keep covers up possible homicides and trumps up criminal charges against individuals who challenge their authority. Let’s see: CU and / or former CU administrators being sued for $50 million in the Hipps case, $15 million by Troutman, and hundreds thousands, if not millions, by a former women’s soccer player. I hope you made your donations this year.
Anyone can sue. It is who prevails that counts. Now exactly how much have the above plaintiffs collected thus far? Troutman has already been told to stuff it in federal court. His ambulance chaser will continue to milk him dry. Their only hope is that Clemson will tire of their nuisance suit and give them a sop to go away which will include NO admission of wrongdoing on the part of any of the defendants.
Now explain to me your allegation of “possible homicide”.
No one who observes an ACCIDENT plots for 6 hours on how to cover it up, erasing all cell phone messages and the like. Someone will eventually talk. On the other matter, now that Troutman has filed a second suit for $15 million, he and his attorneys likely have what they need. Oh, and in regard to how much the plaintiffs have collected so far, they personally may have collected nothing, but Clemson has spent no less than $2 million in legal fees. The lawsuits have overwelmed their own legal department and the university has been forced to hire expensive defense attorneys from the outside. That’s the great thing about our legal system: When people assume they can abuse power, there are opportunities for private parties to have their day in court.
Next time Troutman goes to the grocery store or the gas pump I don’t think whatever Clemson has spent on legal expenses is going to help him pay his bill.
What happened to “homicide”? Did you drop it? IRT the 6 hour “plot” how do you know? Do you have access to the LE files or have you had direct conversations with the alleged perps?
There are basic facts in the Hipps case that are known. If you kept up, you would know those have been established. Quotes include “That should buy us some time.” As far as Troutman goes, I guess we will simply have to wait and see what happens. Better get your excuses ready.
These “basic facts” are what is contained in official LE records and they have been vetted in open court under oath? If not it is hearsay.
You’ve shorted them by 1,000 years…
**6,000**
You can legalize sin but it is still sin. I answer to a higher authority than govt.
Apparently NOTHING that Dabo can do will satisfy Fits. Had Dabo gone, Fits would have piled on with the Anti-ghey stuff.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.
Fits is still butt hurt.
What decent parents would call a kid “Dabo?”
He’s from Alabama. That explains it all.
Folks-Goebbels continues his lie. Dabo never said he was against the stipend system that is being implemented. He said he was against paying players a salary. But to Folks truth is seldom used as it negatively affects his agenda.
And you use half truths and semantics yourself to attempt to make you points. That makes you a hypocrite.
and they are?
If you make a decision and then “wimp out,” it does not speak well of your integrity.
I am not a religious person, and his decision has less to do with personal morals/religious believes and more to depth of his character. Believing that you can never go wrong by appeasing your critics, leaves your critics in control.
Well spoken.
It shows he has poor judgment to have gotten himself into this mess to begin with.
Please. If he was being honored by a radical homosexual group or a group that hates America you would all for it.
By being given an award?
lulz..he probably had no idea what they were when he accepted. I doubt anyone would know what they did or didn’t do, unless it came out in teh news today.
Oh, I think like ‘Prayer Breakfast’ and ‘Policy Council’, ‘Family Council’ in any organization name likely denotes a connection to the national political group which includes those words. In that case, the Family Research Council (from which Josh Duggar recently resigned).
I think Dabo knew what the group stood for, he just didn’t figure that anyone else would put 2 and 2 together or that the presentation of the award would rise to the top of the media cesspool; he probably gets a dozen awards from this or that group a year – that’s where the bad judgment comes in.
And, btw, why do people really think that the Good Lord gives a rip about who wins a football or any other kind of game? What a trivial God that would be.
Interesting… Rutherford is discriminating against Christians who have their set of beliefs. Rutherford is simply a bully!
That little bastard has signed his death warrant in SC
Poor Dumbo Swhiney looks constipated in that photo! Bet that was a hell of a smell up in the Hill Billy Hills!
He’s just pushing out a few more USC athletes.
yeah..we all know that smell in 5 points is roses.
“(L)ast time we checked he has the right to express his personal religious views free from discrimination…” True, but was he attending this event as a private citizen or as Clemson’s football coach? He was invited and his prospective attendance was touted in his capacity as Clemson’s football coach. That’s the murky line obscured when state officials or employees insist on trumpeting their religion in public. I’m old enough to remember when religion was considered a private matter — a matter of conscience.
Does Barack or Michelle Obama differentiate between private citizen and pResident/fIrst lady when they go all over the world libeling, defaming and speaking evil of America.Who pays for those trips?
What was Michelle when she spoke at Tuskegee and told the students that America is a racist country…that her and Barack are victims of racism…that America is not fair? Who paid for that trip?
Matthew 10:33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
BINGO!
He who makes long prayer in public to be seen of men have his reward… the scorn of humility.
He who squints his eyes

Let no one accuse libertarians of being rude. Shut up is why.
If I were Dabo, my take away from this crazy episode would be…. (1) to focus on positive Christian messages for today; (2) to line up speeches with such ideologically aligned groups after retiring; (3) to avoid politicians in general; (4) to absolutely, positively avoid those politicians/people/groups who are hopelessly combatant to your religion and way of life; and, (5) related to number 4, to not take messages, have a conversation with, do anything for Todd Rutherford, and his anti-Christian crowd, ever again (not because of hate, but because there would simply be nothing to discuss). There, problem solved.
Wonder how many Chick-Fil-A chicken sammiches this shuck and jive moron Todd Rutherford puts down his trap every year? Taste the hate Todd? Furthermore, where was his outrage when Ray Tanner was awarded the “South Carolina Family Champion” award?
