WHY LEE BRIGHT HAS REACHED THE APEX OF HIS POLITICAL CAREER …

|| By FITSNEWS || For years, this website effusively praised S.C. Senator Lee Bright for being one of the few pro-free market lawmakers in the S.C. General Assembly.  Unfortunately, our adulation wasn’t offered frequently enough for Bright’s taste.  In fact, during one of our founding editor Will Folks‘ blue lunar visits to the S.C. State House a few years back, Bright invited himself into a private meeting for the purpose of chastising him over the insufficient love.

We didn’t forget that …

In the 2014 U.S. Senate race, FITS ran several pieces related to Bright’s disastrous personal financial history – which we felt was relevant to his candidacy.

Those articles earned us Bright’s undying ire, as well as the advancement of a ridiculous conspiracy theory that we were somehow carrying water for our former business partner Nancy Mace – whose candidacy we frequently criticized (but who took the criticism like a champ, not a whiny little bitch like Bright).

Since then, we’ve tried to hold Bright accountable while at the same time crediting him when he votes the right way.

Throughout, we’ve maintained our 30,000-foot view of the guy – that we appreciate his taxpayer advocacy even though we detest his sanctimonious moralizing (and crybaby personality).

Anyway …

Fast-forward to this week: Bright’s entourage has been all over us for our coverage of his bizarre filibuster of a pro-life bill.

The legislation – a ban on abortion after 20 weeks – didn’t involve huge numbers of babies (as abortion is already illegal in South Carolina at 24 weeks), but Bright made the decision to try and block the bill because it included exemptions for rape and incest.

We did the math and found Bright was basically condemning – or trying to condemn – roughly 200 babies to death every six years in an effort to save three lives over the same period.

Does that make sense?  Hell no.

We’re not saying those three lives don’t matter … but come on, man.  Real pro-lifers should save the lives they can, right?

Right … of course Bright and his supporters aren’t having any of that.  They insist theirs is the only true pro-life position – and that anyone who doesn’t agree with them is part of a so-called “surrender caucus.”

Oh well.  We’ve already had … and won … that debate.  But the issue is instructive as to why Lee Bright has reached his ceiling in American politics.

Make no mistake: We love uncompromising leaders.  Especially when they apply their passion toward the advancement of freedom and free markets.  But Bright’s bizarre anti-life filibuster (combined with our knowledge of his petty insistence on accolades for himself) demonstrates he isn’t motivated by those issues as much as he is motivated by … himself.

Hell, wasn’t he one of the State Senators who sold out fiscal conservatives just to get this pro-life bill placed on the calendar in the first place?

Yup …

Also, we wonder: Where was this uncompromising spirit when Bright joined the rest of his “Republican” colleagues in embracing the ascension of liberal Senate leader Hugh Leatherman last summer?  Two State Senators – Shane Massey and Tom Davis – had the courage to stand up to Leatherman.

Where was Bright?

Again … we will always praise Senators when they vote in a manner consistent with our bottom line as taxpayers and our basic freedoms as citizens.  But Bright’s petulance and pettiness continue to rub us the wrong way.

Uncompromising politicians are to be admired … unless they are too dumb to see when they are blatantly contradicting themselves at the expense of those they claim to be fighting for.  Or too arrogant or self-serving to care.

Either way, we have less use for Lee Bright with each day that passes …

Ha! Ha! So the exceptions to the abortion bill were voted in anyway.

It would be nice if this report did not make the “body count” an issue.

Gruberment control of the citizenry’s pants and pants pockets is the issue.

Bright’s effort was two fold.

Firstly, it is to play to the base. We all understand what that is about.

Secondly, it to kill time- to run out the clock on the session. Leatherman encourages the right wing to posture and preen so that he can narrow the time and the options available for those opposed to Leatherman and his budget. A short time frame means he can dictate to the other Senators and not have to have meaningful negotiations.

The right wind works for Leatherman just as surely as the left wing. They just don’t admit it.

It is the same this year as last year. As long as one person controls the state, all you see is theater with the real work being done behind the closed doors.

The price of admission is high as hell, but that is what one gets when one lives in a one dictator state.

What was the nature of your private meeting at the State House?

“..purpose of chastising him over the insufficient love.”
If you take your time and treat him nice, you can renew the bromance.
Kiss and make up, then go to a movie, then a beer with him at your favorite bar. And who knows after that. Don’t forget the condoms.

Ever since I’ve been posting on FITS I’ve tried to tell FITS (and others) just how big of a douche bag Lee Bright really is (with Corbin right behind) and Shane Martin following up about 4 lengths behind the two front running douche bags (sadly all 3 represent Spartanburg with Bright & Corbin representing parts of Greenville County as well and all 3 are darlings of the Spartanburg Tea party which is why and ONLY why they get reelected).
Oh well, you can lead a horse to water………………………….
One other thing………….
It appears to be a “Don’t Tread On Me” mini flag beside the GREAT State of South Carolina mini-flag on Bright’s desk
No Unites States mini- flag that I can see—————If that is so, it shows you where Bright’s real loyality lies.
Odds are that Lee Bright will be speaking somewhere this Memorial Day weekend about members of the United States military who have paid the ultimate price while shedding a crocodile tear or two………….
Memo to all FITS posters & readers:
Please remember that Memorial Day ain’t just for mattress and car sales

FYI on flags — In Orlando and elsewhere in the South, Confederate flags are scheduled to be burned in a symbolic burial on Memorial Day. See Orlando Sentinel.

OK……As in like a ceremony to respectfully burn American flags when they have reached a tattered state (what the Boy Scouts do from time to time)
Or……….like burning the Confederate flag because that “Lost Cause” stuff is way past played??????
Kinda like a symbolic “burying the hatchet”???????

I believe it is to celebrate the symbolic death of the confederacy and spread its ashes. http://touch.orlandosentinel.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-83592941/

Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities. The latter cannot understand it when a man does not thoughtlessly submit to hereditary prejudices but honestly and courageously uses his intelligence

Bright is an embarassment for his Spartanburg district. Yes, he has some rabid supporters (“Lee’s goons”). He also now has a huge bunch who want someone,…ANYONE else in his seat. He has 3-4 strong candidates who are considering a run against him. One of them will win. The embarassment will end.
