Saudi Arabia: The World’s Next Human Rights Watchdog?

OUR “PARTNERS IN PEACE” ARE AT IT AGAIN ...

|| By FITSNEWS || Ah, Saudi Arabia. Our “partners in peace.”  Well … except when they’re secretly subsidizing terrorist attacks against our country.  And then goading us into another “War on Terror.”

It’s clear who is in charge in the relationship, isn’t it?

Anyway, according to reporter Adam Kredo of The Washington Free Beacon, Saudi Arabia is making a push to lead the United Nations’ Human Rights Council … a move which comes “just days after it posted a slew of new job openings for executioners who would help carry out beheadings amid a massive uptick in state-sanctioned killings in the country.”

As of this week, Saudi Arabia has beheaded 85 people – almost as many as it beheaded in 2014.  Nearly half of these beheadings were for non-violent, drug-related offenses.  Obviously this website supports capital punishment – and if the Saudis want to behead people as part of their “war on drugs,” whatever.  That’s their business.

But we don’t have to be their allies.  Or sell them weapons.  Or give them our tax dollars.  Or welcome their immigrants.  And we sure as hell don’t have to support their shameless bid to lead a global government’s “human rights” panel.

“The fact that Saudi Arabia is on the U.N. Human Rights Council at all is more than sufficient to make a mockery out of the entire body,” Michael Krieger of Libety Blitzkrieg writes. “Nevertheless, it appears this ridiculous membership isn’t enough for the Saudis.”

Krieger isn’t the only critic.  U.N. Watch – a human rights advocacy organization – ripped the Saudi effort.

The group referred to Saudi Arabia’s gambit as a “despicable act of cynicism by a regime that beheads people in the town square, systematically oppresses women, Christians, and gays, and jails innocent bloggers like Raif Badawi for the crime of challenging the rulers’ radical brand of Wahabbist Islam.”

Indeed.

How can a country which openly discriminates on the basis of gender, religion and sexual orientation – which doesn’t recognize basic human freedom – be in any way responsible for overseeing “human rights?”

America should publicly rebuke this … but we won’t.

After all these are our “partners in peace.”

Queen Elizabeth made King Abdullah her bitch. She’s got balls, son.

“Women are not — yet — allowed to drive in Saudi Arabia, and Abdullah
was not used to being driven by a woman, let alone a queen,”
Cowper-Coles wrote. “His nervousness only increased as the Queen, an
Army driver in wartime, accelerated the Land Rover along the narrow
Scottish estate roads, talking all the time. Through his interpreter,
the crown prince implored the Queen to slow down and concentrate on the
road ahead.”

Abdullah, who died this week at age 90, would go on
to become regarded as a reformer, if a modest one. His sponsorship of
the Arab Peace Initiative and harsh stance against conservative Islamist
clerics following the 9/11 attacks earned him praise internationally.
Yet the Saudi Arabia that King Abdullah left behind is still extremely
old school in a lot of ways; for instance, women are still not allowed to drive. Did that magical joy ride with Queen Elizabeth mean nothing to him?

It obviously meant something to Cowper-Coles, who, despite being
technically barred from repeating the queen’s private comments or
reporting on her hijinks, deemed the story “too funny not to repeat.”

If not for the fact he was worshiping the wrong god, he would make a good member of the religious right.

“As of this week, Saudi Arabia has beheaded 85 people..”
Are those formal or informal beheadings? Do we have to wear those funky hats?
