COMPANY REAPING HUGE PROFITS OFF WATER FROM DROUGHT-STRICKEN CALIFORNIA
|| By FITSNEWS || So corporate behemoth Walmart and its “Great Value” bottled water provider, DS Services of America, have quite the deal going with the Sacramento Municipal Water Supply.
According to reporter Adrienne Moore of KOVR TV 13 (CBS – Sacramento), the government-run supplier sells water to DS Services at a rate of 748 gallons per dollar (well, per 99 cents). DS Services then bottles the water and sells it at Walmart for 88 cents per gallon.
Bad at math? Allow us to compute. That’s a 65,724 percent profit …
Why does this matter? Well, California is in the fourth year of a debilitating drought … one that has prompted mandatory reductions in water usage. You know … unless you’re a celebrity with opulent grounds to keep up. Or apparently a mega-corporation with obscene profit margins to maintain.
Walmart’s response to the KOVR story?
“We have and continue to work with our suppliers to act responsibly while meeting the needs of customers who count on us across California,” the company said in a statement.
Sheesh …
What a great corporate citizen, right?

They were instrumental in the Clintons’ rise to power. So don’t expect too much from them.
Is this about little Queeny? … again?
(It is hard to tell who is still on the Walmart Board, Hillary or Chelsea of the “foundation”.)
<…65,724 percent profit …
Bottling, packaging and shipping ?
Stocking, sales clerk, real estate, insurance , taxes, credit card fees…
bribes & kickbacks …
… and more taxes and more taxes … and Bummercare insurance …
Listen, I’ve warned you several times now. Why do you persist? Facts? Common sense? ECONOMIC REALITY?! Where’s your head at? Stop.
Is WalMart going to import polluted water from China for this venture? Everything else in their stores seems to come from there.
Think about it this way, they’re recycling! All the leftover waste chemicals used to create all their other shit products can be reused after all! Walmart is being very eco-friendly here!
LOL!
:-)
Yes, that water is filtered pretty good. Most of it is runoff from Sierra snow pack and passed through several hydro power stations first.
Except the Sierra snow pack is gone for this year unless they got that last snow and it drains their way.
Isn’t this free market at work?
Folks is for free market only when it suits his agenda. He was just looking for somewhere to apply his favorite term, “government-run”.
Not really, because there’s no “private owner” of the water itself.
It’s like SC acquiring land with taxpayer money and then giving it away for pennies on the dollar to a big corporation….
“… Bad at math? Allow us to compute. That’s a 65,724 percent profit …”
And your point is?
Stop with the facts! Folks is against facts that destroy his agenda!
Why is Shirley so surly? Cheer up bbgrl.
And their Liability Insurance cause everyone wants to due them!?!
FITS wants to nationalize Walmart….LMAO….liberals are so cliche. ..so predictable. ..give FITS the rope….LMAO…..
I as a liberal don’t want to nationalize Wal Mart. In fact, I try to avoid it at all costs. That’s why God invented Target.
Wow…a liberal who believes in free enterprise and market forces…better hope Chairman Barack doesn’t find out…you’ll be excommunicated from the party…
Of course liberals want businesses to succeed (for a little while anyway) so you can raid their coffers and feed your greed….If nobody earns…you starve, because you D@*n sure ain’t gonna work….(see Obama, see Clinton)….
I don’t get the outrage at Wal-Mart. Isn’t Sacramento the entity that should be ensuring its citizens have enough water to drink? Apparently Sacramento has decided it’s better to do business with Wal-Mart.
I don’t like Wal-Mart water, makes me piss too much.
ooops! — try reading the labels first/ my Walmart has the beer and the water on adjoining aisles…
You may be on to something there. The water did taste a bit funny and also made me fart a lot. Or maybe that was the tacos I ate while drinking the water.
Why would the “free market” care about being a good citizen?
Because citizens in the free market demand it and vote with their patronage AFTER a fair and balanced Fourth Estate reports the misdeeds.
Interestingly enough Starbucks, because of the California drought, has decided to stop bottling their “Ethos Water” brand water in California and will move the operation to Pennsylvania. Quite a difference in corporate reactions to the extreme water shortage in California.
… until the drought is over. They will be back.
“How stupid do I think the Americans are? I think we could put water in a bottle and sell it to them.” — Jim Gaffigan, on Perrier founder.
Got to stay away from that evil fluoride someway.
Wal-Mart wants to claim to be “good corporate citizens” so they should not be purchasing water to bottle in California when it’s in an extreme drought. It’s not like the water operation is not turning enough profit that it couldn’t move somewhere not in a stage 5 drought.
The Sacramento Municipal Water Supply should turn them off at this point as part of the draconian restrictions enacted in California by governor MoonBeam.
The Libertarian view is that there is no such thing as obscene profits in a free market competitive economy. No one is forced to buy it. They can buy it at other places. I’m sure the municipality and it’s customers benefit from the arrangement and other companies do the same thing. The soft drink companies by their water from municipalities also.
Bible Thumper gets only 115 gallons for 99 cents for the first 2000 gallons and then gets 190 gallons for 99 cents after that. But my water is delivered right to my house and it’s available whenever ever I want it and at any amount. They accept payment 15 to 45 days after I received it. I bet my deal is better than Wallmart’s. I would bet that a typical Wallmart uses more water in it’s restrooms than it sells bottled and pays the same rate as we do. And guess what. They don’t charge you for it either. It’s FREE.
Fitsnews “corporate headquarters” probably gets a deal similar to mine. Most of it gets flushed down the toilet.

7/10. They needed to work in a racial or feminist angle for full credit.
Anyone can go to the Wallmart water fountain and fill up their water bottle for Free. Free! Damn Communist!!! That’s what they are. Communist.
If you don’t like the price of Wal Mart water, start digging, eventually you will run into more water than you can use.
Sounds like the “good ol’free market to me”. Why begrudge Wal-Mart, because you didn’t come up with it first?
Yeah
That’s why they need a corporate tax break like Chris Christie advocates?
He’s a very smart man.
Well…..the problem is the water source itself is a “public good”…so the reality is that Walmart isn’t really paying a market price that would be reflected by a private owner selling water in a semi-arid desert…..(hence not a “free market”)
Paulbots side with those fake, phony class warrior Leftists whom are exploiting the Californian drought that they caused. Ron Paul after all sided with those very Leftists in 2008 when he endorsed Cynthia McKinney for President.
Clueless Paulbots, why are you siding with class warfare Leftists exploiting the Californian drought in driving out companies from setting up jobs?
