WAR (UHHHH) GOOD GOD … WHAT IS IT GOOD FOR?
|| By FITSNEWS || This website has been critical of Pope Francis‘ economic theorizing. And his lack of a hammer on “Catholic corruption.” And his church’s mob-style finances.
But Francis got something right this week … specifically, the blunt rebuke he delivered to a military-industrial complex responsible for sucking countless lives and tax dollars down the black hole of endless war.
Speaking to an audience of Italian school children, the pontiff railed against an “industry of death” that perpetuates global conflicts.
“Many powerful people don’t want peace because they live off war,” His Holiness told the children. “This is serious. Some powerful people make their living with the production of arms and sell them to one country for them to use against another country.”
Or in the case of the F-35 … for endless reconfiguration amidst obscene cost overruns.
Either way, Francis is correct … as “X” said in the 1991 Oliver Stone movie JFK, “the organizing principle of any society … is for war. The authority of the state over its people resides in its war powers.”
Obviously we believe national defense is a core function of government – one which should be adequately and efficiently funded. In fact that’s not up for debate, as the Constitution clearly calls for the provision of the national defense.
What do we oppose? Senseless interventions (and sensationalist scaremongering) which serve no objective other than the draining of American blood and treasure on conflicts which do nothing to make our people safer.

He’s my Pope, and he rocks.
He’s the anti-Christ.
No he’s more than likely the closest to Christ. But there are a lot of older parish members I know who don’t like him – don’t like his agenda or his priorities. What they don’t like is someone who has shifted the priorities in a way that takes away their perceived standing and “power” in the parish. Well too bad. If Gay Marriage is your biggest issue in life, your not really focusing on the real needs of mankind.
Socialists are against war unless it’s on their fellow citizens in the name of taxation.
Taxes = rent. Don’t want to pay rent? Move out.
Taxes= Rent?
What am I renting?
Crooked pols? Potholed roads? Overseas armies? “Civil Society”?
I do not equate taxes and rent. I equate taxes with a purchase. Taxes are the price of civilization. No government has ever existed that did not collect taxes. And yes all the things you mention are what you are currently paying for. Could you demand better? Yes, but not from people who do not believe in good government. If you believe all government is bad, crooked pols, potholed roads, overseas armies, and croney capitalism is what you get. In fact its the best Republicans even offer. They don’t give a crap about the Civilization Part.
“In fact its the best Republicans even offer. They don’t give a crap about the Civilization Part.”
Your mistake is that you believe it would be different under Dems.
Anyway, good to know you don’t agree with the original poster that stated “taxes=rent”.
So far, the “price of civilization” seems to have not yielded “civilization” as Democide is the leading cause of death in the last century, funded by government/taxes.
Aside from all of that, it’s pretty naive of the Pope to call for massive wealth confiscation in the name of social justice by governments around the world who are also responsible for killing the most people in the world using said confiscated funds, don’t you think?
What i believe is that currently the Democrats are less corrupt than the Republicans, who are controlled by big business and billionaires and who will structure government to benefit those interests at the expense of everyone else. I think they have shown this over and over by trying to cut taxes on the wealthy and pay for it by cutting programs that have major benefits for everyday Americans. They could care less about the rapidly expanding gap between the mega wealthy and everyone else.
I believe government needs to shift its focus to the needs of the average American, away from wants of the mega wealthy, and I think Democrats are far more likely to do that than Republicans. In fact I don’t think Republicans even know what the needs of the average American are.
I believe, big anonymous money in politics is a cancer. I think the Citizens United case was a disaster for this country. I think Democrats at lest profess to recognize this problem, while Republicans just see this as a way to get more money, in exchange for votes. They want to double down on Citizens United by passing laws allowing anyone to pay unlimited money to politicians. That would be the end of democracy, and complete conversion of the country from a Democratic Republic to a Plutocracy.
I believe in “Happy Unicorn Land” where my personal elves shit gold and I’m hand fed grapes by supermodels while my wife looks on in approval.
Though I live in reality, one day when the right people are in charge I’ll get to live in Happy Unicorn Land.
As usual, you have no answers only complaints. You see government as always bad, so the only answer is no government. A state that will never exist, but if it did would, for the vast majority of us, be the worst of all possible worlds.
Since we have to choose I choose, for now, the party that at least purports to be interested in what is good for the most of us instead of the party that says and have shown they are only interested in what is good for the richest of us.
As usual, you have no answers, only complaints. You see government as the best of all possible worlds and so the answer is only government.
You adhere to no guiding principle, amoral utilitarianism that is subject the whims of your fellow man is the best that you have. It’s sad.
You think Democratic Party candidates are not funded by major Wall Street interests? They definitely are. You think they don’t take “dark money?” Please. Just look at Hillary.
The whole, both parties suck, but mine is better argument is getting tiresome.
Both parties suck.
Period.
All of the above.
lol…I want my money back dammit!
ISIS ideology is stuck in the seventh century. Rome (the Vatican) is their number one enemy. In the Caliph’s only public speech, he threatens Rome more than any others.
An ISIS leader in Libya after beheading Coptic Christians on the shore of the Mediterranean says “And we will conquer Rome by Allah’s permission, the promise of our prophet, peace be upon him,”…
A just war can’t be waged with Vatican Swiss guards wearing brightly striped stockings. Many in the arms business are decent people who want peace, but not at the expense of freedom.
“ISIS Ideology is stuck in the seventh century” and Neocon ideology is stuck in the 19th Century.
FITS and the Catholic Church have LOTS in common…There is NO sane reason for you to want to enable liberals…but EVERYTHING you do empowers the Democrat Party…
I bet most of FITS minions, and Catholics, voted for Obama….
If Catholics voted for for Obama, they must belong to a failed religion, right? Come on, get it out hater. Just say it – you hate Catholic Christians. Just say it pussy – live up to what you are!!!
What I’m saying is simple…the Catholic Church should be 100% against the Democrat Party…except the Democrat Gay Child Molesters that infiltrated the church, posing as Christians, but doing the work of the Democrat Party and the Devil…..
But liberals win in Catholic states…so raping little boys is not the only sin Catholics, claiming to be avowed, are committing, evidently….
SOme issues that Catholics support that you and your Party don’t – immigration and helping the poor. Why should Catholics be 100% against the Democrats. Why should they support Republicans? Abortion? Catholics also support a woman’s right to chose. I have no love for the child molesters – and this Pope is already indicating a new solution for that – allowing Priests to marry (or be gay and be done with it). And he’s systematically demoting any Cardinals that worked to sheild those who violated the most vulnerable. Catholics reject your party because you have this “I’m better than everyone else attitude” and you’re a hater. I guess we just don’t respond to haters. As the Pope says – “who am I to judge.” He might add “who are you to judge.” Anything else?
So now you’re declaring the Catholic Church pro-abortion…I’ll contact The Pope, and get him up to speed on your latest decree.
Are you that F*#king stupid, or such a F#*king liar, you think no one knows what you are…????…
Other than that: you’re textbook liberal, taking all good traits of humankind and applying them to your moralistic religion of liberalism…and bashing the people you hate as against them…when it’s Conservatives who actually put into action good works..and pay for it…
In reality: you don’t give a S#!t about anybody. The poor get poorer under you, women are worse off and children are treated like animals, thanks to the degradation of society that is a result of the trash you implement policy-wise.
The good thing: Obama has been so successful in forcing your dogma on us…people can easily see what I’ve been telling them about you…for themselves.
You really have a focus problem. We’re talking about the Pope. No one said the Church is suddenly pro-choice. But then again, the Pope has said abortion isn’t a high priority for the Church. Here’s some polling information for you “The Univision poll found that 54 percent of U.S. Catholics supported same-sex marriage. Fifty-nine percent supported admitting women to the priesthood. Sixty percent thought Catholics who had divorced and remarried outside the church should be eligible to receive communion. Sixty-one percent thought priests should be allowed to marry. Seventy-six percent thought abortion should be permitted at least in some circumstances. Seventy-nine percent supported contraception.” That should answer your questions. Anything else you need Catholic hater? Did you lose your sheet and hood, or are they at the laundry?
When you switch your allegiance from God, to pop culture whims and decadence, you cease to be a church…and you become a cult…
My question: Why was there outrage over the liberals who infiltrated as priests to rape little boys…???
Why didn’t the Democrat Party sell it as the church “evolving” much like Obama has evolved on Gay Marriage or Hillary on illegal immigrants…???
When you waffle in the wind, depending on polls or a desire for popularity based in immorality…you are nothing but another lost sheep, doing the Devil’s work…
The raping of little boys in the church began many centuries ago. It was not called rape then. It was not even called sex. It was not discussed at all. It just happened, and it was suppressed. The problem is the whole twisted notion of mandatory celibacy. It was wrong to begin with. It was not the “liberals” who came in and started buggering little boys (and sometime little girls, and/or nuns and female parishioners). It was not, as some conservative Catholics claim, “all the Jesuits’ fault.” It was the fault of an insane doctrine.
The doctrine demanding celibacy of priests goes against human nature, and creates a refuge for young men struggling with “latent” homosexual desire. Or, historically, if they were not closeted gays, they were straight males stuck in a system where male sex was ignored or covered up, and not considered “real” sex anyway. Much like the prisons system. VERY MUCH like the prison system.
Kudos for this Pope, for bucking tradition, and seeking to right centuries-old wrongs.
Nice twist on running away from who, and what, you are…you don’t all of the sudden disavow child molestation…you’re trying to validate it, as OK…because you can blame Christianity…
Now that’s insane…ignorant, typical liberal and stupid…but insane, too. (:
FITS is a Lutheran, Lutherans and Catholics generally don’t agree on religious doctrine. This goes back to a little thing called the reformation and a guy named Martin Luther who on October 31, 1517 Luther defiantly nailed a copy of his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Castle church.
You are correct. And I think what really motivated Martin was that he was being told he couldn’t get laid, while the Cardinals were off living in big castles with hidden groupies at their disposal. So I don’t blame him one bit. From what I’ve read after he left the Catholic faith he got plenty. Priests being chaste was a silly rule imposed by Popes and Cardinals who wanted to have absolute devotion. It was stupid.
He wanted to get married…pervert…and he did…
Meaning getting legally laid. You are splitting hairs here.
He had a belief…and acted honorably on it…you should try that – for once – in your sordid and filthy life…..
Things can change in 500 years you brain-dead F*#king liberal…
I guess you are judge an jury on who belongs to what religious denomination? He say’s he’s, Lutheran, he attends a Lutheran church with his wife and children. Other Lutherans accept him as Lutheran, for me that’s good enough.
Matthew 7:1-3
1 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
You are wasting your time, but I applaude your efforts. GT professes to be a Christian, but holds no Christian values.
He openly hates, blacks, hispanics, gay people, and Muslims. He has frequently expressed beliefs that these groups should be killed or suppressed by physical force, along with anyone he deems liberal. He holds nothing in his heart but hate and anger.
If Christ appeared on earth today with the same message he brought 2000 years ago, GT would call him a liberal preceded by some vile adjective.
You are the same people who constantly BASH Christians…yet you cling to it, when convenient…
We were warned, in The Bible, about those like you….
Attempting to logically reason with you is pointless as always. You just make yourself look hateful and idiotic. You always sit in judgement of others on here and wherever you roam on the internet.
If you aren’t a liberal plant, an agitator in the mix, an agent provocateur so to speak, then you are the absolute worst spokesperson for your cause in the history of politics.
I pity you.
Yep. That is true. However, on liturgical matters, there has been much coming-together between Lutherans and Catholics of late. One Synod or the other (brain fuzzy this a.m., so can’t remember which) is very keen on gay rights, including gay clergy being OK. The other one, not at all.
On the subject of the Reformation, many people believe that the Baptists were a part of that. Not really, so we (“once a Baptist, always a Baptist”, after all) get wrongly lumped in with the “Protestants” most of the time. John Huss, the Christian martyr, being burned to death by the church for going against doctrine, led to the founding of the Hussite movement, which led to the Anabaptists, which spawned the Baptists and the Moravian faith. (This is off the top of my head, and my head is not holding dates well this morning, so I’m just riffin’.)
Then there are the Episcopalians, famously stemming from the Church of England, created so that a king could divorce his wife.
Not exactly “Protestants”, either. And another deeply liturgical faith. Not to mention being another one currently split in a major way over issues involving homosexuality — with much of that rift coming to a head in SC. A story still unfolding.
LDS? Bogus bullshit, with a science-fiction premise created so that some old geezer could keep screwing multiple young women. Bogus as Scientology, and much like radical Islamist teachings, with the dudes in the afterlife ruling over planets full of virgins, etc.
Some would say these latter-day cults are no more bogus than Christianity as a whole — or regionalism as a whole. The Bill Maher argument. I don’t go there, myself. But I fervently believe that NO religion should be the “official” religion of this nation. Letting that happen would surely take us does down the shithole forever.
I wonder if Pope Francis calls “good Catholic” Jean Toal and asks her what he can and cannot do like Bill Nettles does.
