GAMECOCKS, GEORGIA IN THE MIX FOR NOTRE DAME QUARTERBACK …

|| By FITSNEWS || The University of South Carolina football program is one of at least two Southeastern Conference (SEC) schools in the running to land Everett Golson – who is leaving Notre Dame.

The other program reportedly in the mix?  Carolina’s SEC East rival Georgia …

Golson is reportedly eyeing these programs because they are closest to his hometown of Myrtle Beach, S.C.  Other SEC schools (including Florida) could also be in the hunt.

“I would like to thank everyone at Notre Dame for the opportunity to compete at the highest level of college football but most importantly to obtain my degree from one of the finest universities in the country,” Golson said. “To all the Fighting Irish fans I want to thank you for the support over the past four years and let you know I truly love Notre Dame! To my former teammates, who I will miss tremendously, I wish much success in the future and will be your biggest fan from afar.”

Golson – a 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior – played two seasons with the Fightin’ Irish.  He completed 187 out of 318 attempts for 2,405 yards as a true freshman in 2012, throwing for 12 touchdowns and six interceptions as Notre Dame went undefeated during the regular season that year.

After sitting out the 2013 season due to academic issues, Golson completed 256 of 427 passes for 3,445 yards last season – throwing 29 touchdowns versus 14 interceptions.  Golson has also rushed for 581 yard and fourteen touchdowns during his two seasons in South Bend.

One problem?  Golson has been turnover-prone.  In fact he was benched by Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly at the end of the 2014 season due to committing 22 turnovers over the course of the year – the second-highest mark in the NCAA’s FBS division.

Because of his 2013 academic suspension, any SEC program would have to receive a waiver for him to play.  Since he has graduated from Notre Dame, though, Golson would not have to sit out a year if such a waiver were granted … meaning he could play immediately.

South Carolina enters the 2015 season without a game-tested quarterback.  Redshirt sophomore Connor Mitch is the frontrunner at the quarterback position coming out of spring practice … although he’s thrown a total of six collegiate passes (going 2 for 4 for 19 yards against Furman and 0 for 2 against South Alabama last year).  In fact returning All-SEC wide receiver Pharoh Cooper has more collegiate passing yards and touchdown strikes than the Gamecocks’ three-deep quarterback depth chart.

Gamecock head coach Steve Spurrier has indicated incoming true freshman Lorenzo Nunez of Kennesaw, Georgia would compete for the starting job when he arrives on campus this summer.

In Athens, junior Faton Bauta, sophomore Brice Ramsey and freshman Jacob Park are all vying for the starting quarterback job under new coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Yeah, academic suspension for cheating, sounds just like what Slurrier needs to deal with… kind of a Stephen Garcia II. Shame that other schools don’t stick to the honor code like Notre Dame does.

#soybeanwind May 7, 2015 at 10:14 pm

What were Stephen Garcia’s academic issues? He did a lot of stupid stuff off the field, but what evidence do you have regarding his academic problems? With 2 kegs under his belt Garcia would still make more sense than your dumbass redneck HC Dat Boy.

Would that be like smoking Sammy Potkins? Yeah, he was a true Rhodes Scholar type huh. One that got a suspension for drug possession, and reckless driving (while high). What about Deandre McDaniel? He was only suspended for beating up a chick with a towel rod and throwing her down a flight of stair.

Squishy123 May 8, 2015 at 11:22 am

Name one current player on either SC team (USCe or Clemson) that’s Rhodes Scholar material. 99% of both teams are lucky to be able to spell their name and would likely be gang thugs if not for the four year free ride.

What about the former USCe player that just beat a toddler to death? Isn’t it about time for a USCe former player to commit suicide? They were ventilating skulls about every six months there for a while… except for the one who thought he could kill himself by sitting in a car and shooting himself in the arm. Slurrier recruits a lot of quality human beings himself.

Yeah, he made a mistake. Something I’m sure that you’ve never done. He paid the penalty and is a better person for it.

What’s your point?

ACC star student May 8, 2015 at 9:53 am

could it be like a “highly reputable” ACC school (UNC) having non classes for their players. that’s a whole school cheating, not just one player. Way to teach your kids

You mean like USCe’s esteemed Sociology, African-American Studies, HTRM, and Sports Management programs? Go down any football or basketball team roster, look at the declared majors and you’ll see what are worthless programs at the school.

Every SEC school short of Vanderbilt pushes athletes through school with classes toward worthless degrees.

Reply
ACC star student May 8, 2015 at 1:06 pm

but they are still actual classes unlike the mighty ACC that had classes that don’t even exist

Squishy123 May 8, 2015 at 2:10 pm

The whole conference or just one school? Dirtpeckers fans are two things, fairweather and drama queens.

Tell me how difficult a 400 level course in African-American Studies can be?

ACC star student May 8, 2015 at 7:13 pm

well if you paid attention you would know it happened a lot more than just at UNC. Miami had issues, Louisville, Pitt, plus a few more. Ironically this school we are talking about (you know the one that doesn’t want to sink to the level of the ACC football) had issues. you have what 3 schools worth anything? Duke, Wake, and UVA. as for the 4oo African American studies course, I’d talk to your mom about that one. I think she met the guy she was with after your dad impregnated her in that class. That’s the problem with some of you tater fans. You are even too scared to admit you are. That makes you kind of like a drag queen in the closet

It was spring training. A horse ambled over to the manager of the team and said he wanted to try out for the team. In
desperate need of players, the manager figured that he had nothing to lose. He told the horse to grab a bat and try to hit
a few. No matter how hard the pitcher threw, the horse slaughtered the ball. He hit it out of ballpark without even
trying.

The manager became a little more interested. He told
the horse to get a glove and catch some grounders. The horse did so and was brilliant. Not one ball passed him. Really excited now, the manager said, “All right, get on first. We’ll see how fast you can run.”

The horse answered, “Who can run? If I could run,
I’d be in the Kentucky Derby!”

A scout reported that he’d discovered a great pitcher.
“In last night’s game,” he reported by phone to the manager. “He struck out all twenty-seven men on the other team. What’s more, he got all of them on three pitches, except for one guy who hit a foul.”

The manager said, “Get the name of the guy who hit the foul. We need hitters!”

shifty henry May 7, 2015 at 6:01 pm

Having imbibed a little too much the previous evening, a pitcher was called on to start a game. His inability to focus got him into trouble. Soon the other team
had men on all bases. The pitcher wound up and threw as hard as he could to what he thought was the plate. Instead he’d thrown it to third and picked off the baserunner on that base. Another windup, and this time he threw to second base, getting that man too. His third pitch went to first, and that was the third out. Walking to the dugout, the pitcher said to a teammate, “And they keep saying you can’t drink and play!”

TontoBubbaGoldstein May 7, 2015 at 6:26 pm

Was the pitcher’s name Milt Famey, perchance?

Everette is a class act.MB should be proud. Brian Kelly is a POS.He shouldn’t attend USC as Spurrier is a lunatic like Kelly. He needs stability.

Golson played for another carpetbagging lunatic named Scott Earley at MB. Earley of hanging Tampons in players lockers in high school, allegedly.

My prayers are that Golson will find peace in a program of great character.Wish it was Ohio State however we already have 3 NFL qb’s.

Golson isn’t the type of player who can play for Kelly. They had several shouting matches on the sideline last year, and Kelly has lost several QB’s during his (hopefully short) time at ND. Google “Brian Kelly red faced” and you will see what I mean.

I wasn’t on that story nor do I give a damn about it If I not mistaking both teams had the exact same number of players drafted FYI. I read articles about my team and don’t feel like I need to worry about that other team. Losers like you tend to though chief. Can you guys cry a little more about how you get no love from ESPN. Its been a day since I read something like that, and only a couple of hours since I heard someone say it on sport radio whining. Why not listen to those slick, and keep your comments to yourself? Again why would you be here on an article that has nothing to do with you if you weren’t obsessed?

1st round isn’t equal to 7th round. I seem to recall that being said last year by USCe fans when the 2014 #1 Draft Bust was selected.

why the hate? May 8, 2015 at 11:10 pm

FYI another 1st overall defensive player picked in the draft was hurt today and will miss the season. Fowler with the Jags. Sometimes injuries happen, but I wonder if will you call him a bust too instead of waiting to see if anything will pan out for a return before you make a judgment. Odd how you don’t mention anything about that, but since he didn’t help you be a hating little bitch I guess you wont acknowledge it. Always wanting to hate shows a high level of jealousy on your part.

Squishy123 May 10, 2015 at 9:11 am

If he doesn’t pan out sure he’ll be considered a bust. Maybe the two of them can buy a chicken and koolaid shack together.

Cush May 8, 2015 at 11:13 am

Slow down tough guy. I wasn’t trying to get into a tinkle tinkle contest with you on how many people got drafted from where. I was stating the gist of the story and how both fan bases talk about the other’s team.

But…. Since you wanted to know: to answer your question, my bad… I didn’t realize I couldn’t read this story without getting prior clearance from you, Lord Summer’s Eve, King of the Douches.

It shant happen again my Lord.
