GAME PITS NORTH CAROLINA, SOUTH CAROLINA …
|| By FITSNEWS || Southern department store Belk will be the title sponsor of the University of South Carolina’s 2015 season opening football contest against the University of North Carolina.
The game – scheduled for September 3 in Charlotte, N.C. – will pit a pair of teams looking to reverse recent fortunes.
Under head coach Steve Spurrier, South Carolina enjoyed a period of unprecedented success from 2010-13 – winning an SEC East championship and scoring three consecutive Top Ten finishes (including a No. 4 ranking at the end of the 2013 campaign).
Of course the Gamecocks fell apart in 2014 … completely … losing fourth quarter leads against SEC East rivals Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee en route to a 7-6 record. Spurrier’s recruiting has fallen off in recent years, too … which is one reason his team is being written off by pundits heading into 2015.
North Carolina stumbled to a 6-7 mark in its third season under head coach Larry Fedora – who is under tremendous pressure to put together a successful season after watching the Tar Heels get progressively worse after posting an 8-4 record in his first season in Chapel Hill.
So yeah … something’s gotta give.
As for Belk? The company – which recently shuttered a Columbia, S.C. retail storefront – saw overall sales climb by five percent to $4.11 billion last fiscal year. In addition to sponsoring the Charlotte kickoff classic, the company also sponsors a postseason bowl game at Bank of America Stadium.
Belk took over title sponsorship of the game in 2011 from Meineke Car Care Center – and is under contract to host the game through 2019.
North Carolina enjoys a 34-18-4 advantage in the series, although South Carolina has taken two in a row – including a 27-10 win in both schools’ 2013 season opener.

Belk shut their Dutch Square location, they also need to shut their Richland Mall location. Let dying malls die.
Belk is the only thing keeping that mall (Richland) alive. Well that and Barnes and Noble. It once was a great mall (in the late 90’s), but some idiot redesigned the whole thing to accommodate Verizon and their call center, and it killed the mall, and now Verizon is gone anyway. One good thing is if you have a few gifts to get for someone you only have an obligation to get one for and don’t really care to much about it, its a great to park upstairs and get in and out in 10 minutes. What a shame

Belk expanded bigtime at Columbiana so they may as well pull out. Barnes & Noble can move somewhere else.
Columbia Place Mall is in the same predicament, when Sears dies off and Macy’s decides to get the hell out it will be the new Dutch Square Mall.
Its pitiful. The remaining tenants of that mall are (and keep in mind its 2 stories): Belk, Barnes and Noble, Gymboree, Lens Crafters, Bobby’s Barber Shop, Fortess Builders, The movie theater, a cafeteria that has crap food, some Seafood Academy that takes way to long and has crap food, and 1 Chinese “restaurant” in the food court that serves something resembling food (and its crap). I’m pretty sure that is it.
Two types of malls… the malls the white people go to and the malls the white people used to go to.
Richland Mall is a very profitable location for them as all the old ladies in Forest Acres, Shandon, Rockbridge and Forest Lake shop their. They’ve been shopping their for years back when it was J. B. White in the old open air mall. Belk also owns their space from the dirt to the roof in Richland Mall so they pay no lease.
“IF” at least 75% of the players WERE bona-fide/legal residents who played high school football in the state they are playing at a state sponsored university for it might mean a little something.
All the “players” are now are gladiators entertaining for the benefit of those who can’t get enough of this bullshit.
As it stands now all Belk is doing is sponsoring a contest to see who suffers from Parkinson’s or other brain injuries 5-20 years down the road due to contemporary “football”.
Fuck a bunch of college/professional “football” is what I say (and i’m beginning to have doubts about high school level these days as well!!!)
Did the football team stuff you in a locker in junior high or something?
probably made him smell their socks after the games?
Actually I was a 3 year letterman in football & track.
Mostly as a linebacker on defense and pulling guard on offense and on the kick-off team (where a lot of injuries occur due to high speed impact). I ran the 880 during track season.
Then I joined the army where I liked jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and blowing up shit much more than playing football. I still like to run and think that track & field events are more noteworthy and a better example of competitive sports in a purer form than the bullshit that professional & collegate football has become.
In the 80’s I saw where professional & collegate football was headed and decided I wanted no part of it.
Professional & collegate football has become nothing but the modern day equivalent of bread & circus for the dumbed down masses.
Fuck that shit and all it stands for.
Belk will sponsor, and nobody will give a shit.
yet once again here you are, so obviously you do, you tiny tiny little troll
And you took time out of your busy schedule to reply, thank you.
As did you.
Welcome back.
oh the irony of you calling me out for what you are doing
And yet you keep coming back.
here you are again. Wow this troll is consistent. P
Good morning, I see you couldn’t help but respond.
Hey you replied again. good job!! You must be so excited someone is actually talking to you.
Hi, will you be my friend?
I can only imagine how excited you must be someone other than your mommy is talking to you
Unless you need a new pair of socks and some underwear.
I always liked their mint green jockey shorts with a pair of yellow socks.
You be a’stylin’.
If Sakerlina wins one more game than TBG believes they will…playing in Belk sponsored events in BofA Stadium could well bookend their season.
Kind of nice symmetry , if you ask TBG.
TBG, that won’t be too good for my wallet if my wife attends these games, but I say it beats having to hang out with those Duck Dynasty clowns in December again.
