LAWSUITS SAID TO BE LOOMING IN HEALTH SYSTEM SPAT …
|| By FITSNEWS || It’s no secret Providence Hospital of Columbia, S.C. is looking for a buyer. In fact according to our sources, the facility – owned by the Ohio-based Sisters of Charity Health System – is reportedly on the market “due to the vagaries of Obamacare.”
It’s also no secret Providence leaders have been in negotiations with a Tennessee-based company – a deal which was supposed to have been approved this week.
On the day the memorandum of agreement was reportedly signed, though, rival Columbia hospital system Palmetto Health announced it had entered into an agreement with the Moore Orthopedic Clinic – a Midlands-based practice specializing in pediatrics, joint replacement and sports medicine.
The move was totally unexpected – hitting Providence like a ton of bricks, we’re told.
Why does this matter? Well, Moore Orthopedic has partnered with Providence for the last nine years. In fact Providence has sunk tens of millions of dollars into its Providence Orthopedic Hospital in northeast Richland County, S.C. – a facility which was run by hospital vice president Ryan Hall.
According to our sources, Hall – who resigned from Providence a few weeks ago (and promptly took a job with Palmetto Health) – was an integral part of the negotiations between Providence and the Tennessee-based firm.
Now he’s being accused of “manipulating” the deal.
The immediate result of this alleged manipulation?
“Providence is left with an expensive shell at the northeast (location) without assumed medical staff,” our source said.
The Tennessee firm has a three-month grace period to back out of its planned purchase of Providence – which ironically is the same time frame for the completion of the Moore-Palmetto Health deal.
Millions of dollars – and medical services for thousands of patients – hang in the balance.
“The viability of a long term private institution may be at stake,” our source said, referring to Providence’s future.
Obviously we’ll be following this case closely as we’re told “multiple lawsuits” are in the works …

Someone with that Tennessee firm did a great job of covering their bases. Now they can renegotiate or kill the deal.

Sued how? If there’s a contract saying they can back out, how does the Tennessee firm get sued?
I’ve got some thoughts, but we’ll just read the complaint and find out for sure together.
How about SC failure to expand Medicaid?
I really hate to see a situation like this unfold. Providence (Downtown) is a really great hospital, as my father had heart surgery there and he got great care. I hope that the situation can be resolved quickly and quality care can continue to be given to the patients. In other words, keep the politics out medical care!
Oh, like the politics that Providence is play with LexMed?
I do not know about the politics between Providence and LexMed. I was referring to politics in general. In a perfect world, politics should not come into play when it comes to someone’s health. Sorry I didn’t make myself clear.
Providence is trying to block the addition of another cath lab at LexMed. Providence are the kings of playing politics. However, their legal funds might be running a little low after the blow from Moore Ortho.

There was never a transplant unit at Providence Hospitals. Nothing to squash.

Obama care does indeed create many vagarities about the future of inpatient care. Nationalization is the inevitable result. If you like the efficiencies and accessability of the VA system, you’ll like what’s coming.

There are numerous cases in contract law that have put people in jail for this type of stuff: if true. Also, his fiduciary duties to his employer, Providence Hospital, as a VP are also criminally and civil enforceable. This is gonna hurt.

Providence has a long history of being screwed by VPs,CEOs and buyouts. Even though I’m not exactly team Providence anymore, I do hope Ryan Hall gets everything he deserves and for him to just remember karma’s a bitch-but I’ll pray for your soul anyway.
If you don’t know already the Baptist Hospital Down town Columbia is in worse shape. All of the financial problems with privately held hospitals were already going broke before Obama was elected. It might be easy to hang all your health problems on the ACA (Obamacare) but you really need to go back to the way Health Insurers broke this country and you.
I was a patient of the Moore Center for Orthopedics when switch was made. It has been a pain in my arse. None of my records followed me from Providence. I have had to keep up with which office location he is in (3 in the last 2 months). The excellent service I had before has been lowered
