GOP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF LIBERTY …
|| By FITSNEWS || Reporter Leslie Larson of Business Insider has a fascinating piece up this week which highlights the ongoing reticence of the vast majority of “Republican” candidates to address the issue of homosexuality.
Larson’s piece – which comes against the backdrop of the protracted legal battle over gay marriage – is instructive. It’s also quite painful to read seeing as any candidate claiming to belong to a party which claims to believe in “limited government” should be able to answer the gay marriage question so easily.
The right answer? Marriage – gay or straight – is none of government’s business.
Of course such a position – which actually affirms the authority of the church (and protects it against this sort of discrimination) – doesn’t play well with social conservatives in early-voting Iowa and South Carolina.
Anyway, according to Larson all of the GOP candidates – with the exception of former U.S. Senator Rick Santorum – are at least open to attending a gay wedding. Or at least the reception of a gay wedding, in the case of Wisconsin governor Scott Walker. Or a gay wedding not held at a church, according to former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina. Even Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal – who made a big deal of his opposition to gay marriage last month – says he would attend a gay wedding if invited.
But only one of the prospective 2016 “Republican” contenders – former New York governor George Pataki (a second tier candidate at best) – openly supports the legalization of gay marriage.
Again, we oppose Pataki’s position every bit as much as we oppose socially conservative “Republicans” – who believe states should be able to ban gay marriage. Sanctioning or banning marriage of any sort – gay, straight or plural – is simply not the purview of any government.
But “Republicans” aren’t just on the wrong side of liberty on this issue … they’re on the wrong side of the electorate.
According to a new Washington Post/ ABC poll, a whopping 61 percent of Americans now support “allowing gays and lesbians to marry legally.” The exact same percentage opposed letting states ban the practice, too.
Oh, and while we’re on that number … let’s not forget 61 percent of “Republicans” under thirty support gay marriage, which is consistent with polling from Market Research Foundation last fall showing that nearly a third of the GOP disagreed with their party’s stance on the issue.
But with Iowa and South Carolina ensconced as “First in the Nation” and “First in the South” presidential primaries, will GOP party orthodoxy ever change?
Or will the party simply have to wait until all the old voters die?
This website has long maintained that the path to a more free, more prosperous Republic lies outside the “Republican” and Democratic umbrellas … which is why we have consistently urged candidates to explore independent candidacies untethered to the stigmas of the establishment.
Clearly the gay vote – and the accompanying pro-liberty vote – is fertile ground for such candidacies.

Not a big deal. Once the Repubs realize they have to cave on gay rights, they will up their attention on demonizing the poor and minorities and making sure the rich stay that way.
They don’t have to wait. They are quite adept at demonizing gays, hispanics, and blacks all at the same time.
And, in many cases, they ARE the gay people. Yahoo item from Huff Post. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/04/30/randy-boehning-grindr_n_7176406.html
San Francisco Log Cabin Conservatives are a gay group, primarily espousing fiscal conservatism and leaning toward middle-of-the-road liberal on social issues. Some claim to be totally “classic liberals”, touting strict adherence to US Constitution principles of freedom and small government. (They have online snooze letters and blogs.)
Gallup says 2% of people identify themselves as gay. If you watch tv or MSM you would think it was 50%.You have been brainwashed.Just like Obama brainwashed you with ‘hope and change’ bullshit. lol
Other way around. YOU have been brainwashed.
Does that mean 2% of your other usernames are gay?
They don’t want to go that way because they just simply hate gay people. They use that one Bible verse to defend their stance.
I remember that one Republican who defended his stance, in an airport bathroom stall, by saying he had to make it that wide in order to piss.
HAW!
Saw Santorum and others will be speaking in SC soon. Will be some serious repression in that audience, and on the stage.
Tango probably will get the shakes with his pent up gayness.
I don’t hate gay people.Could care less what somebody does in their bedroom. Fuck your dog if you want.
I do care when the GOVERNMENT tell me I have to provide you services for your perverse lifestyle…or that I have to rent you an apartment and explain to my children or grandchildren bout the ‘freak show’ or even hire you at my business.
Fits says government has no business in this…then why is the government allowing these perverts and thugs to blackmail my community, schools and businesses into accepting gay marriage with threats of violence and lawsuits?
Because Gays are evil and they hate you. They want to screw YOUR dog, pervert your grand children, and more importantly, they want to spread their cooties at your local Waffle House restaurants – because that’s how they turn your wife into a lesbian. Don’t you know anything. So tell me, you don’t want the goverment to tell you that you have to provide your services that suppor their perverse lifestyle. So exactly what services do you offer that support gay lifestyle? I mean if you provide services to support the gay lifestyle, wouldn’t you want to have them as customers, since they’re the ones your services are tailored for? I’m a little confused.
You are always confused Rocky.Liberal socialist thugs all think alike. Don’t support gay marriage-close their business down….don’t like the way the wheels of justice turn-‘burn the bitch down’ aka Baltimore and Ferguson.
Hey, I’m with you – you don’t want to take photos at a gay wedding, just say you’re not available that day. But if you’re managing an Applebee’s you cannot say “I refuse to serve gay people.” But that’s not the Executive Branch or Congress tell you to do it – it ultimately would be the Supreme Court. Now if you want to argue with them, go for it. I think it costs an estimated $1,500 per hour. But answer my question, what services do you provide that support gay lifestyle. Just shopping around.
I have a couple of rental houses. Now since you are demanding personal information what do u do for a living that makes u such a flaming liberal?
We have a rental property too. Cool. So renting to a gay couple, or renting to a gay person, you’re enabling them because????????
My faith tells me the lifestyle is not normal and a sin.My grandchildren should not be exposed to such a living arrangement.
Your grandchildren live in the rental house?
Just asking. I mean it’s your property. Technically you can pick and choose. But how would you know they are gay?
“I don’t hate gay people.”
You lie!
Give gays relevance by continuing publish bs articles such as this. Watch the movie “A Normal Heart”. A truthful statement is made … “Promiscuity is a gay political agenda”.
Deviant behavior does not equate to equality.
Help me here. So they don’t like gays or illegals. Or is it both? Or are illegals gay? Or are gays illegal? I’m confused.
Funny headline, when you think about it.
Yet when FITS efforts to attack certain Republicans, he hatefully accuses them of being Gay…
Democrats are many things; Hypocrites and Bigots…included…LMAO….
When any Democrat special interest group – from African Americans to homosexuals – can be used to get votes and adulation from the media…the puppet masters are all over them….but just as soon as those idiots become a joke..the liberals fill their circus w/ them….
……
Only the closeted ones in denial like….ME!
Just wondering – Wil has a post by Taylor in a bikini you don’t view or comment. Wil runs a post on gas prices with a hot chick – you don’t view or comment. Wil runs a post on Gays – you’re all over it! What’s up with that?
Cheer up Elton, looks like all of your bigoted heroes will at least attend your reception. I believe North Dakota state Rep. Randy Boehning (R) and you have a lot in common.
“North Dakota STATE Rep”…LMAO…You are precious…in your Stupidity and cliched ignorance…Thanks for the belly-laugh…
You sure are having to dig deep to find some Republican (I guess he is) to HATE…and use to avoid to talk about the IMPLOSION of your party…
And what’s worse: the Fools of the Democrat Party…the Baltimore Dumb@$$ DA..and Hillary…are High-Profile and front and center…while you prowl the bathhouse and back alley in your bigoted attack….
Shhh…listen…Larry Craig is tapping a message to you. He will be at your wedding, too. HAHAHAHA! And I see by your commentary you already knew about Boehning. Why don’t you blog about it. Ohhh, that’s right…LMAO.
It must suck to be as small and as stupid as you….
That said; don’t hate me because of my intellectual superiority. .that will just make you even more miserable. …and you can’t afford that….
Rolling on the floor laughing and crapping my pants.
Off topic a bit, but if Fits can bring up that idiot Carly Fiorina, why the hell hasn’t he posted anything on Bernie Sanders?
Rafter all your vain attempts at obfuscation and your pathetic attempts to seperate yourself from your fellow party members, the REAL bottom line?
You OPPOSE Gay Marriage.
Surprise!
Heheheheh! You said bottom line.
Because it is of vital importance to the existence of a free republic, the right of one deviant to ram his cock up the feces-impacted bunghole of another deviant.
“Of course such a position – which actually affirms the authority of the church ….”
So, the Establishment clause of the Second Amendment does not apply in “Libertarian World”?
I must admit, I barely glanced this article, read that strong headline – Republicans are never going to get on board with equal rights for Gays. Get over yourself and stop hoping they will. Not going to happen.
It would seem that this is the case. Especially in SC, which has two gay US Senators who are Republicans. (Think not? Oh, grow up!)
They will take the closet to the grave with them. There is a special TARDIS-like casket made just for that purpose.
