Any risk to the environment is clearly worth the 30 jobs this project is slated to create. How long are the jobs supposed to last?

Fourth declension my friend.

You could simplify it with a small change and avoid the problem by declaring “Jesus fetus” or “The baby Jesus”.

They should go ahead and run it through the Savannah River Site. Less complaints that way.

eminent domain should only be used to clean up the few holdouts that always seem to want to screw the company or entity building whatever. It should not be used when good faith negotiation can do the job.

I remember back in the 60’s when they were building I40 in NC, there was one farmer above Charlotte that held up the entire system for years . That is what I am talking about. That one hold out trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of whoever. I am a property owner myself and would resent someone taking my land by imminent domain. But at the same time I would b reasonable about it. Who was the supreme court judge that voted to take the property of someone for an increase in the tax base ? That was totally wrong.

Taking easements is one thing. Taking whole tracts of land is another. Not everyone is a hold-out to extort money. Some people just dammit do not want to sell. Now, I have traversed the full length of I-40 far too many times to say the road should never have been built. But I don’t see how one property owner could have held up the entire system. They build entire major components of infrastructure systems in the middle of nowhere on speculation that there will be growth in that area, or just to get some big muckitty-mucks name of the damned project. Don’t tell me they could not find away around that dude’s land.

It was probably a combination of bad planning and stubbornness but at Mocksville there was a dairy that I40 was going to cut in two. Rather than either side giving an inch they fought over it. Looks to me like they could have gone down the side of his property rather than cut it in two. Or made a tunnel for him. But it ended with the road going through. I was driving that route regularly then. Naturally, when they got the road finished I was doing other things. A little thinking and cooperation could have saved a lot of time if nothing else.

So this is the Republican position? Really? From the party that gave eminent domain rights to the railroad barons so they go all across the nation stealing the land of ranchers and farmers.

So let me understand your logic. It is bad for a city to condemn a run down abandoned part of the city to sell to a developer to rehab, which will benefit almost everyone in the city. But it is ok for Republican moneymen to use the power of eminent domain to build a pipeline through the middle of the country that will not benefit anyone except them. That sounds like GOP logic.

There’s never been any leaks from Colonial Pipeline into the Reedy River, or from the Plantation Pipeline in the Belton area. Eminent domain’s no big deal for the property owners. They should be happy for the Kinder Morgan money.

Who missed the boat, really? It gave the opportunity for the truth to be presented, here, in comments. That’s better than having one or two gloat about how much smarter they supposedly are than everyone else. Hell, “they” are gonna do that anyway, but if “they” think that’s what is important, it is “them” who are missing the boat.

The important thing is, the notion that the company and its projects don’t pollute is a busted myth — as it the idea that they don’t use eminent domain. So I thank “them” very much, for this, and for other instances of this kind of thing.

Missed the boat? By not recognizing immediately that a comment was sarcastic, rather than sincere? How, exactly, was I supposed to do that? Perhaps by remembering every screen name used, what their political party or ideological polarity is, etc. I also know that “being smart” is a relative term, which depends of myriad factors.
I know how smart I am and how smart I’m not. I also know my memory is faulty, even on a bad day. So what? What does it matter?

Apparently the three of us, if that is not you using another name, are in agreement about pipelines and the environment. So why quibble about this petty shit?

Repeating an earlier comment:
“Problem is, the things some people say sarcastically on here are, all too often, less absurd that what others say in dead earnest. Or equally so. Shit, who could muster up any effective sarcasm that is more outrageous than GT’s daily output of what he — apparently — believes to be the truth?”

Deeply sorry (NOT!) that I don’t toe a party line on every aspect of every issue. You may see that as a flaw, while I see it as the only way to maintain a free mind, and some degree of objectivity.

Easy and inexpensive access to gasoline is one of the primary reasons that fuel is cheaper here than almost anywhere else in the US. Pipelines are by far the safest means of transport. The number of jobs is not the point.

Update: Kinder Morgan Announces Open Season Extension of Its 167,000 b/d Palmetto Project to Serve New Southeast Markets
Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, L.P. on Tuesday announced an extension of the binding open season to solicit commitments for the proposed Palmetto Project, which offers shippers a new refined products service to move gasoline, diesel, and ethanol from Louisiana, Mississippi, and South Carolina to points in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. The binding open season, which originally ended September 30, 2014, was extended to October 30. The project has a design capacity of 167,000 b/d and would consist of a segment of expansion capacity that Palmetto would lease from Plantation Pipe Line Company between Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and Belton, South Carolina. A new 360-mile pipeline from Belton, South Carolina, to Jacksonville, Florida, would also be constructed as part of the project. http://phx.corp
