GOVERNOR: OTHER GOP SENATORS “OUT OF TOUCH” WITH SOUTH CAROLINIANS
|| By FITSNEWS || S.C. governor Nikki Haley publicly thanked State Senator Tom Davis for his efforts to attach an income tax cut to the $800 million gasoline tax increase pushed through the Senate finance committee this week.
Davis’ efforts failed, as five liberal “Republicans” joined Democrats in blocking the tax cut. Then six “Republicans” then joined Democrats in approving the tax hike, which is roughly twice as big as the tax hike passed by the “Republican” S.C. House of Representatives earlier this month.
“Thank you to Tom Davis for fighting this terrible bill,” Haley wrote on her Facebook page.
She also urged citizens to contact those “Republicans” who voted for the tax hike and “remind them exactly how out of touch with South Carolinians they really are.”
Haley and Davis are facing an uphill battle, though. While liberal lawmakers in both chambers of the legislature disagree on how much to hike gas taxes – they are clearly in agreement on doing so in some capacity.
And the version of the gas tax increase passed by the House appears to have more than enough votes to survive a veto from Haley – who wants a tax swap or nothing.
We reject any tax swap or tax hike that increases the burden on South Carolina motorists – who already spend more of their meager incomes on fuel than residents of any other state save Mississippi and West Virginia.
And we reject the ridiculous notion that South Carolina lawmakers don’t have enough money to adequately maintain and rationally expand our infrastructure network.
As we’ve said repeatedly, the same liberal lawmakers who are voting for these tax hikes have approved billions of dollars in new spending on South Carolina’s worst-in-the-nation government-run school system, its duplicative and inefficient higher education system, bailouts for wealthy corporations, shady ‘economic development‘ deals and … lest we forget … dozens of exorbitantly expensive and totally unnecessary highway projects.
They have the money to fix our roads and bridges without raising taxes … they are simply choosing not to do so.
Davis deserves credit for pushing income tax relief, but we’d like to see him get back to proposing pure cuts, not carrying Haley’s water on tax swaps.

Being out of touch with South Carolinians — is that supposed to be an insult?
Only if you’re the governor of the state.
“who already spend more of their meager incomes on fuel than residents of any other state save Mississippi and West Virginia.”
More Folks’ continuing distortion. What about other commodities? But sticking with fuel, I was just in LA where gas is over $3/gal. Assuming the LA income level is higher than SC, all we have is relativity.
Haley is an opportunist with NO core values.
She was a Methodist to get elected
She wants ethics change , now that she has gotten away with horrendous ethics violations
She is a public moralist, after she has committed many moral indiscretions
She was an American Indian for those who did not know
She was a friend until she did not need you any longer
She has always been a fake and a liar
On the “American Indian” part. Hard to believe, but there are many who thought that to be exactly what she is. Probably a lot of them still think it.
And elected 2x…LOSER!
So was Obama… LOSER!
That just shows the stupidity of the SC voter.
Damn, she looks good in that photo.
Tim, Scott and Bobby seem to agree.

LOLOL
Since January Will has been showing only attractive photos of Nikki. It’s curious because he is still holding out on his exposé said to be published (upon completion) by the LACKLUSTER LIBRARY
TOUCH ‘N TELL BOOKS.
I have a feeling that “Touch ‘n Tell” book might make a lot of people very uncomfortable. Luckily haven’t met him in person yet – ha!
Maybe this is the setup? Who wants a “Touch ‘n Tell” book with a lot of ugly pictures in it? ;)
Will neglected the mandatory Nikki Haley “Republican” and Tom (carpetbagger) Davis “Republican”.
Hey kids. We’re broke, but the great news is that we’ve figured out how to fix this: we’ll reduce revenue and then compare notes with KS and MS on whose credit rating drops first. Then, as a last resort, we’ll borrow some more money at a higher interest rate than before and find some more things to add user fees and license fees. Meanwhile, so that people don’t get too pissed at us, we’ll tell them over and over that it’s all due to THOSE PEOPLE and their dependency on government (worked for the last 50 years–what the hell). Meanwhile, keep in mind, we have to stay on message about cutting taxes, smaller government, and reducing entitlement. Remember, it’s a great day in SC
When will Haley (and Will) realize that Tom Davis is really a Democrat and Jean Toal lover/admirer/supporter and servant.
Haley flies back to Teterboro Airport is about a half-hour south of Volvo’s North American headquarters in Rockleigh. N.J. Two planes this time.
