JESUS APPARENTLY WANTS SOUTH CAROLINA’S BOOZE LAWS AMENDED … TO BENEFIT BIG CORPORATIONS
|| By FITSNEWS || Desperate to create some support for a special interest handout that’s gaining zero legislative momentum, wealthy backers of a so-called liquor “reform” bill are now enlisting some “divine intervention.”
Desperate times call for desperate measures, we suppose …
After failing to move their crony capitalist carveout forward last week (despite some serious national support), these bad actors are now said to be courting the assistance of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
In fact, sources at the socially conservative organization tell FITS the Baptists’ “family life” committee is being pressured to take a vote on the bill – with the goal of showing state lawmakers some public support from the evangelical flank of the “Republican” party.
Hmmmm …
Evidently efforts to pitch this legislation as a “free market Tea Party” proposal have failed miserably (you’re welcome), so now the monied interests backing the legislation are going with “Plan B” – courting gullible Bible Thumpers.
What do South Carolina Baptists have to do with state liquor law? Good question … although our guess is if these Holy Rollers knew the whole story, they would be less-than-thrilled with some of the less-than-Christian antics of those pushing this scam.
This website’s position on this issue is clear: We don’t believe government should be in the liquor regulation business – period. In fact if it were up to us, there would be no government limits on the number of wine licenses certain companies could receive – nor would there be any mandates on which products manufacturers, wholesalers or retailers could produce, distribute or sell.
Interestingly enough, this position is at odds with literally every interest involved in this debate … including the mid-sized retailers we’ve been accused of shilling for.
But until such a time as our benevolent dictatorship ushers in such a regulatory-free climate in South Carolina, we cannot sit back and watch existing laws be ignored in such a manner as to artificially raise prices on consumers. Nor can we support permitting these laws to be “reformed” in such a way as to jack those prices even higher.
“That’s not a free market,” we wrote recently, “it’s a rigged market.”
Nor is it “Christian,” no matter which group of Bible Thumpers lends its imprimatur.

Bible Thumpers gullible? Never heard of such a thing.
I have a 3rd party atheist friend. It is so funny to hear him describe first experience with baptism:
They get all dressed up and they walk into church. They get called up. Did you know they have a pool? Then they walk to the pool with their clothes on? They step down into the pool?
They even put their head under water? and splash it on their face?
At least the baptism tub can hold heated water. Some churches do it in the river still.
If you go to get baptized and catch a fish in the process, does that make you a redneck?
LMAO! It just might mean you are a redneck. Though in my early years, that was how it was performed. I was baptized in an inside church pool. Not sure if that mean anything today, because my views of religion are changing very much. Every day I am involved in politics – I see it for what it is. A means to control society, a stream of hate filled beliefs for political gain.
Don’t misunderstand. Those who are true believers, I wish I had their faith. I just see it for what it is and how it used.
Many family members and many friends of faith. I admire their innocence. I deplore it in politics.
Church Notice: For Baptisms – from now on, the North and South ends of the church will be utilised. Children will be baptised at both ends.
There are 3 fundamental truths about religion:
1. Jews don’t recognize Jesus as the Son of God.
2. Protestants don’t recognize the Pope as the Vicar of Christ.
3. Baptists don’t recognize each other at the bar on Saturday nights.
And how can anyone believe any of that shite? I give up. I just try to muddle along and do my best to be a good person. I’ve often said, if I am going to follow a philosophy – I think I prefer mine ;)
Religion and religious groups are too varied and complicated. One thing I would like to argue with someone is: How many heavens can there be, and if there is only one heaven and everybody shows up – how will they get along peacefully?
Great debate. I want to believe – hell, who doesn’t want to believe? But….read revelations, only so many thousand make it to heaven and I am absolutely positive, I don’t qualify, lest the gods look at my heart, then I have a very slim chance. Ok. None, based on population, but better than before.
If there is a heaven, I have tendency to lean toward science and believe that I might become part of nature. Outside that….I simply do not buy the golden street. Wish I did. But truth is, I don’t.
One thing I like to debate – how many universes are there? Time Travel. A bunch of weird stuff I don’t believe in, but do think ….hmmmm At one point cartoons were about a man on the moon. Now that has happened. I have been told repeatedly that is a dangerous way to think – to admit I don’t know.
I’m comfortable with it. I still look, I miss the safety net of believing, but I am comfortable with what I believe and until the day I die. I will continue looking for answers. But I require proof, not faith :(
You’ve touched on a few of the things I have thought about. One question I ponder is “What was God doing before He created us?”
One other comment – I hope we end up in the same heaven…..I will surely need a sense of humor.
Thanks, and I think there may be a story in there somewhere.
The best secrets of church socials that Southerners have spent generations hiding in an effort to stall the migration of Yankees and carpetbaggers! The roll call of the best cooking—–
Baptists…..fried chicken
Methodists…..string beans
Church of Christ….. cornbread
Presbyterians……rolls
Episcopalians……hams and roasts
Catholics……anything spicy, smells of garlic, but tastes great –for days
Free-Will Baptists……chocolate layer cakes, lemon pies, and banana pudding

The common denominator regarding denominational cooking is in the iced tea, sweetened with real sugar. If you like your iced tea unsweetened, you better get right with the Lord because based on the evidence in question you’re in a bunch of trouble.
I am truly screwed at this point – where is the seafood?
I think I shortened this message but if I find my original you’ll see it here (just for you!)
And I suck at making SOUTHERN Sweet Tea! Waaaay to much sugar for me ;)
Isn’t “gullible Bible Thumpers” redundant?
Maybe you should ask the T-Rav supporters of this website. ?
“gullible Bible Thumpers”…he is anything but…
In Baptist churches, we drink Welches® grape juice on Easter… along with Ritz® crackers.
You’re a bit of ham and cheese away from a lunchables box.
The Tea Party has gotten so caught up in their own BS, they have lost sight of what they were fighting for.
I read an article the other day, doing Google searches. Folks nailed it when discussing Consultants. Once they get people elected, then they make an effort to control them, which is in fact very effective, because they want to be elected again. He didn’t use those words during the interview, but it’s true. Tea Party is the worst of the worst, when it comes to playing games.
They want to get people elected, only to do their bidding on every bill. This is one area I do applaud Gov. Haley. She was elected by the TP backers, but … she is a little more savvy than most them are. They seem to have a love/hate relationship.
You could agree w somthing FITS said. But you don’t even read it because his hate-list is so trite…and his only reasons are so cliche…FITS has no credibility. .except for those who robotically loathe others based on your corrupt poliical sins…
You are describing yourself. Please stop. I am embarrassed for you.
Whats I be needing to knows is will this effect the cost and availability Hennessy for me and my white wimenz.
I thunk u cld afrd Hennessy & you wimenz?
Only the cost of ‘yo’ wimenz’, T-Bone. The price is going up!
LMAO! Edited, to correct – so you have been looking at Nevada ;)
Will, I’ve read your article twice and other than some babble about Baptists, I have no idea what you’re talking about:
What bill?
Who is supporting what, who opposes it and why?
What will the effects of said bill be?
Damn son, didn’t they cover the 5 Ws when you were in J school? I realize that “…it’s all about the clicks, bout the clicks, bout the clicks no scrolling…” but at least give us a complete freaking story.
Too bad Will isn’t bringing booty back.
It is Will’s obsession with Total Wine (based out of Maryland) trying to pass a bill that makes it harder to get a license to sell liquor (in short).
I’m surprised you haven’t seen his articles on this as he writes about Total Wine ad nauseum.
Apparently I want nothing to do with alcohol (I’m a Baptist) so I don’t read those articles I guess…
I do like Total Wine though. So what’s the gist of the story?
http://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess121_2015-2016/bills/3375.htm
Purports to limit the number of licenses issued to sell liquor (and allows for licenses to be sold among retailers). Will claims that Wal-Mart and other big box retail stores want to get into the business here in South Carolina (which they already do elsewhere…I remember–years ago–when I went to WAATS in Marana, AZ and saw the liquor aisle in the Wal-Mart I was quite suprised)
Supposedly Total Wine has some back-handed deal to further push the little man down…ergo, crony-capitalism.
I, for one, argue that I enjoy market freedoms and absolutely detest the government picking winners and losers…that said, I’m quite content with not having a plethora of crappy “mom and pop” liquor stores all over the place. This would only lead to more trouble, indeed. Not to mention how that wouldn’t help property values or re-gentrifying areas.
Maybe I’m just biased against liquor stores?
I guess I haven’t paid attention to it because I buy about a 6 pack a semester…
What kills me is Will’s “free market” mantra. Under his model Total Wine could come in and put 90% of other retailers out of business just by keeping their prices low until it happens. Once they have put all the small to medium players out they would then be free to collude with others to set prices. Think it does not happen?
