So what? Travel is the purpose of the state plane. In fact, I’ve previously flown on one of the state planes to Teterboro, NJ on state business. It’s just across the Hudson River from NYC

I agree, there is no reason for a state to own any aircraft with the exception being for law enforcement or wildlife management. For those in the statehouse, they can fly commercial or charter. There’s no place in SC that you can’t get to from Columbia in a little over two hours.
So I guess we should never have any dealings with anyone outside of the state? USC has a plane and it goes to Manassas, VA all the time (I’ve flown along once). Why Manassas? it’s the cheapest airport to use near of DC. Most of the people on those flights are either bringing home checks to conduct research or applying for others.
Uh, that would be my point: The transport of ill gotten gains is the only reason to have a government owned airplane.
Netjets (charter / lease) are a whole lot cheaper, but they are also subject to TSA/local sheriff searches.
They’re all subject to search by the TSA or local authorities. TSA is occasionally on hand at the Charter/Private gate at CAE.
Volvo cut NC loose today, its down to GA and SC. Bobby Hitt was in NYC meeting with their consultants on the SC incentive package. This is also why the General Assembly is going to do a massive roads & bridges package, so the corporate folks know the state is serious about addressing infrastructure improvements.
