|| By FITSNEWS || The Barclay School – a small special needs school profiled in our 2013 “Miracle Factories” series – has been robbed.  The North Columbia, S.C. facility was broken into sometime over the weekend, with thieves stealing computers, televisions and a host of other items.

Sad isn’t it?  This is a school that’s never had the sort of funding advantages enjoyed by South Carolina’s government-run schools … meaning it was relying on donations even before this robbery.

S.C. Rep. Kirkman Finlay – a longtime supporter of the school – is rallying support for the institution, which is part of South Carolina’s limited  special needs parental choice program.  Neil Mellen – leader of the IndependentEd.org group – has also reached out to the school offering his assistance.

“These are people who are helping those who need it most,” Finlay told FITS. “Now it’s time for the community to help them.”

Finlay said he will be donating a new printer and television to the school, among other items – and is urging others to donate as well.

If you’d like to get involved, visit the school’s website.

Cameras and insurance don’t make it OK.

That is a pathetic response, by the way.

Deductible? Rate increase? Rate increase for entire risk-pool?

Small, private, special needs school in North Columbia. It’s doubtful they could afford insurance as the premiums would be rather expensive for that type of operation in that area of town. Cameras? Who knows but if they are operating on a shoestring budget it’s likely cameras weren’t a priority.

In recent years there has been this sort of activity both in schools and churches. It just shows me that there are still some shitty people…
