CONGRESSMAN LOSES FUNDRAISER, SPOKESWOMAN …

|| By FITSNEWS || U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford has lost his fundraiser and his spokeswoman within the last three weeks, sources close to the embattled politician tell FITS.  Maybe that explains the mini-meltdown he had with our founding editor last week …

A source in Sanford’s Washington, D.C. office has confirmed that his fundraiser – Sunny Philips – left the former two-term South Carolina governor’s orbit in late March to take a top position with the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.  That’s a tremendous blow to Sanford – as Philips is widely regarded in Palmetto political circles as one of the state’s most well-liked, well-connected, influential and experienced operatives.

Not to mention the fundraiser with the thickest Rolodex …

“She’s a big deal,” one Republican donor who has worked with Philips in the past told FITS.  “That’s a big loss for him.”

Sanford was reportedly “stung” by the news of Philip’s departure.  In fact a source at the chamber tells us he made some calls to influential members of the organization hoping to put the kibosh on her hiring.

Those efforts were unsuccessful …

This week, Sanford sources tell FITS the Congressman accepted the resignation of press secretary Amy Lazenby – just four weeks after she took the job.

What happened there?  It’s not immediately clear, although our source in the former “Luv Gov’s” office tells us Lazenby – a former columnist for this website – left the office sometime last week.

Neither Philips nor Lazenby were immediately available to comment on the reports of their departure. Sanford’s office did not immediately respond to our request for comment, either.

Our source at the chamber said Philips remained loyal to “Team Sanford” despite her decision to leave his political team.

“I don’t think it had anything to do with him – I think it had everything to do with the opportunity she was offered here,” the source said.

That may be true … but there’s no doubt Sanford is a mess these days.

Of course when one totally betrays the core convictions one used to hold (see HERE and HERE) … it’s bound to eat away at them.

Supposedly, Ike was banging Kay Summersby, his driver. She was an attractive Irish lass serving in the British Army as a driver. There’s no doubt she “loved” Eisenhower based on her own writings but some doubt as to whether they “made the beast with two backs”. Most would judge their relationship inappropriate even if he wasn’t banging her.

Patton was alleged to have had a relationship with a red Cross volunteer named Jean Gordon (again, no real proof).

I left Johnson off my earlier list, he had an affair that lasted 20 years with a woman named Madeline Brown. They had a child together.

Rocky April 21, 2015 at 1:39 pm

I’m sure Ike managed – to keep his stress level down. I’d have painted a tatoo that said Monty across her backside were I him. As for Johnson, have you ever seen Lady Bird. I met her once at a college function back in the 1980s when she was there with her daughter and the honorable then Governor of Virginia. Lady Bird was a sort of ugly. The daughter – would cause Mt. Rushmore to crack.

The allegations against Eisenhower have not been proven definitively one way or the other. That is not the case with the other three.

Reply
The Colonel April 21, 2015 at 12:56 pm

Concur, I don’t think he was having sex with her, see my post below. Either way, Eisenhower himself admitted privately that the relationship was inappropriate – I’d agree.

The Colonel April 21, 2015 at 12:34 pm

I got it but we tell that joke using FA (Field Artillery) and AG. The Finance Corps is abbreviated FC.

There actually has been discussion about combining the corps. AG has done their dead level best to make themselves irrelevant as an operational force.

For the record, I’m qualified as an AG (Human Resources Manager), Infantry and Engineer officer but my 201 file says I’m an engineer and I wear engineer scarlet and white.

Aahhh–the Check-a-Month Program. You breathe, you get a check. It’s a wonderful thing. Will that make you one of the 47%?

Reply
The Colonel April 21, 2015 at 12:06 pm

I’m going to miss that “check a month” – funny thing though, I’ve averaged more than 100 days of active duty every year for the last 20 years except for the three years I was deployed – where I had 365 days…

Rakkasan April 21, 2015 at 12:20 pm

I meant the monthly “check” after you retire. You make up in the morning, you still get the check.

The Colonel April 21, 2015 at 12:20 pm

Don’t get that until 58 – 5 years.

Rakkasan April 21, 2015 at 12:27 pm

5 years till you become a 47%-er? Just not right. You get a membership card and they have t-shirts too :)) No secret handshake though. But, there are different levels of memberships, depending on how many programs or agencies you get a monthly check from. You know, like Gold, Platinum, Diamond, etc.

The Colonel April 21, 2015 at 12:42 pm

Reservist generally don’t draw their retirement until age 60. From the day you “retire” until Age 60, you are a “gray area retiree” and get some privileges (PX, Space A Travel…) but no pay and no medical care (unless you have a VA issue or opt in to Trice Retired Reserve – a very good deal, unfortunately, I’m not eligible because of my civilian job…).

At 60 you get the normal retirement stuff but your pay is based on the number of points you have divided into the average base pay. Basically one day is one point (though a two day weekend is 4 points)

Because of my deployments, I get 90 days off for 90 days served meaning my last two years changes my retirement draw date from 60 to 58.

Most reservist have to live to 60 or they get nothing.

Reply

Long, semi-sordid story: Will worked for Representative Sanford and when he was elected Gubenor, Sanford hired him as a spokesman. Along the way he alleges he “knew” Nikki Haley in the biblical sense, smacked around (allegedly) a girlfriend, got fired/quit depending on your point of view and then started Fitsnews.

Here’s Will’s mea culpa to his wife about some of it: https://www.fitsnews.com/2010/05/24/will-folks-letting-the-chips-fall/

If he starts to find himself in trouble, all he has to do is ‘debate’ a cardboard cutout. The dumb lemmings of the 1st district will do as told.
