LEGALIZE IT …
|| By FITSNEWS || For the unhip, “4-20” is a national counterculture holiday celebrated by consumers/ supporters of marijuana. And while it’s been nearly a decade since our founding editor last toked up … we adamantly support the decriminalization of pot and other drugs for both medical and recreational purposes.
How come? First of all, this is the “land of the free.” Or at least it’s supposed to be. And being “free” means that government doesn’t get to legislate what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes (provided it does not infringe on the liberty of others).
Second, criminalizing drugs is costly. More than $1 trillion has been spent on drug prohibition over the last four-and-a-half decades … and for what? Drug use is more rampant today than ever before. Meaning that $1 trillion might as well have been flushed down the toilet, along with the $40-50 billion federal, state and local governments will spend this year to continue enforcing this senseless prohibition.
Third, criminalizing drugs is bad for the economy … and bad for government revenue. Last time we checked, U.S. governments were depriving themselves of an estimated $50 billion a year by outlawing marijuana and other drugs. And while we would never advocate for a policy’s adoption based on its potential to add revenue to government, that cash could be used to provide broad-based individual income tax relief – empowering the consumer economy.
Unfortunately shortsighted politicians – most of them big-spending “Republicans” – don’t get it (including 2016 presidential candidate Marco Rubio).
The war on drugs is a documented failure … yet our governments continue to pump billions of dollars into its prosecution, trampling on our liberties and choking off our free market.
Yeah … and they say pot smokers are “high.”
It’s time to stop the insanity and decriminalize drugs … especially here in South Carolina, where law enforcement desperately needs to stop fighting medical marijuana legislation and focus its attention on real crime.
UPDATE: For the trivia-inclined among you, the term “4-20” is said to have originated in San Rafael, California in 1971 with a group of teenagers who gathered at that time to search for an abandoned cannabis crop. Wherever it came from it’s here to stay …

Buz you got a 2fer today…picture of lips on a large pipe and a flashback to what fucked your brain up…:)???

GT’s got yer pipe, large or otherwise — for your lips only, I hear.
Whatever it was that fucked your brain up cannot be posted. It would break the Internet.
Don’t Bogart that joint my friend…
Pass it over to me.
Do kids today even know what “joint” means anymore…
Only if they watch old movies and TV shows. Or new ones about the sixties & seventies. Many do.
Sure, they’re called ‘pre-rolls’ now. They’re what dispensaries do with their decent shake.
Not every place has dispensaries for weed.
Heard about those places from old movies and TV shows.
No photo gallery of hot stoner chicks this year? What happened to you?
Google Image Search for “hot stoner chicks”

You’re welcome, fer sure, dude.
You use the term decriminalization, but I believe you mean full legalization. Decriminalization doesn’t mean it’s legal, it just means our judicial system will be clogged with misdemeanors, and then what are you going to say about that? Blanket legalization of all drugs, get rid of these draconian laws that force our young men and women to enter into a costly game; the prison industrial complex is not a healthy system, and private, for profit prisons are bullshit. Not to mention our drug laws affect the entire world, and Mexico is a war zone right now because marijuana and methamphetamine (which by the way would never have been invented had we not criminalized drug use) are illegal. It’s insanity. This is why new designer drugs like bath salts get invented because we can alter the molecular structure of it and it suddenly becomes legal. Then it gets sold at every head shop in the nation until some idiot kid rips his parents faces off and hacks their legs off at night because he’s gone crazy on some new drug. Legalizing drugs will prevent the invention of new drugs, and it will keep people out of prison, and for the love of god it will create some quality control.
In cannabis’ case, it’s re-legalization.
The trillion $ wasted on the “war on drugs” is bad enough , but think of the lives ruined by all the “law enforcement” AKA Prison Industrial Complex. The Trillion is only the tip of the iceberg.
I am a believer in letting people do what they want, both good and bad. There should be no problem with the use of pot and other recreational drugs for personal use. There should be some restrictions such as age, place, and activities(driving, certain jobs, etc.) you can engage in while partaking of your new-found freedom.
There will be a certain impact on society, as a whole, when restrictions are removed. Just like alcohol, there will be people who abuse the right and then become a burden to themselves, family, and society. And like as now, there will be people functioning normally in society that are daily users.
I would like to see the distribution and public use of recreational drugs get cleaned up and taken out of the alley and ghetto. The problem with hard drugs would still exist and then maybe more enforcement could be devoted to those problems. I really don’t see that legalization of recreational drugs would clean up the drug problem in this country that much. It would just categorize users, distributors, and related problems so they might be easier to address.
William F Buckley was FOR legalization. Enough said.
4:20 is a police code for marijuana. Like 1-8-7 on a mutha phucking cop…
Nonetheless, I’ve just finished my daily bowl and now I’m high as a kite :-)
I NEVER would have guessed. Thanks for the heads up :-)
do you smoke? Weed that is?
No, but I support legalizing it.
I think you should start. I’ve got plenty over at my place…and not that brown frown mexican shit. I’ve got proper buds and cold beer too (craft beers and belgians from 6 to 10% abv)!!
We’ll go for pancakes afterwards.
Ha! We tried the pancakes, they were good for a while, but I prefer mine after wine, thank you very much.
I smoked it in High School, it has changed over time, but IMO nothing more than a money racket. I prefer regulated legalization. No slipping in other drugs (PCP, Crack or any other powder – unknown).
I don’t mess around with schwag darlin’. My goods are the highest quality and I only get it direct from the source.
I just sparked up another bowl…in the spirit of 4:20 and as a giant F.U. to the cops and law makers of this asylum we call S.C.
You are a mess!
Must turn in – may your dreams be full of snakes ;) j/k. Have a pleasant night. I’ll use sarcasm when I am less fatigued – ha!
