LEONA PLAUGH BLASTS STEVE BENJAMIN’S “DISHONEST” PLAN
|| By FITSNEWS || Columbia, S.C. city councilwoman Leona Plaugh is criticizing a “tax relief” plan offered by the mayor of South Carolina’s capital city, Steve Benjamin (a.k.a. “Mayorhood“).
How come? Because the $1 million in property tax relief Benjamin is offering will be “offset” by a $4.7 million increase in taxes on electricity. Add it all up and residents of Columbia will be $3.7 million poorer – assuming the plan isn’t amended.
Plaugh – a frequent critic of Benjamin’s fiscal mismanagement – wasn’t pleased.
“This isn’t true tax relief, it’s a way to get public buy-in for a plan to grow government spending at an astounding rate,” Plaugh said in a statement after she attempted unsuccessfully to amend Benjamin’s proposal. “Any increased tax on electricity should be met with an equal amount of tax relief and that is what I am going to ask the Council to vote to approve.”
Plaugh added that the mayor – who has been involved in one scandal after another since the day he was elected – had been “dishonest” in pitching his plan.
Late last week FITS reported that another Benjamin scam – a planned minor league baseball stadium located within a broader redevelopment boondoggle – was reportedly “way” over budget.
Plaugh blasted that boondoggle, too … as well she should.
Benjamin is running Columbia, S.C. in the ground, people … in fact he’s been running it into the ground since before he was even elected.

Ben said…sticks and stones may break my bones but gutless
whites will never hurt me
Because I KNOW I can drive drunk—get CPD chiefs to hid it—MY
“voters” won’t desert me !!!
CPD didn’t hide anything. SCHP refused to work the wreck and dumped it in CPD’s lap. They claimed that Benji hadn’t been sworn in yet, and so wasn’t a city employee or official, and it wasn’t a city vehicle. Not that the truth matters around here…
All you fools who voted for him get what you deserve.
They have the voting commission so goddamned rigged there’s no way he can lose now. Holder was asked to investigate it, how do you think that went?
Are you watching Good Wife again?
WTF is the Good Wife? If it’s on cable, no, I pulled the plug almost 2 years ago.
No, not on cable, I too pulled the plug, but is available on Amazon :) Last episode had to do with voter rigging.
It is available over the free airwaves, too.
Maybe we should all share Plex? :)
No, have never even heard of Good Wife. If you took part in the 2012 election in Richland county, in a predominately white part of town, you are well aware of the lengths that Lillian McBride went to to suppress votes.
Didn’t participate in Richland County election. That name sounds familiar though.
Yup. That Holder won’t ever do anything disparaging to the “progressives” and their children.
“I consider it completely unimportant who in the party will vote, or how; but what is extraordinarily important is this—who will count the votes, and how.” – Bloody Joe Stalin … killed more than 20 Million of his own and never lost an election.
One thing liberals have figured out: people have to buy (and will pay for) energy…and liberals have been able to get their FILTHY paws on that pot of money, through federal regulation, extortion and domination of the industry…
And the sweet part of it for the liberals: All the idiots, like FITS and Co., hate Big Electric – not Democrat failed politicians – because their gods tell them to…
All the while Benjamin and Obama are bending you over and raping you…then laughing, as they live like kings, despite never having to work….
What’s that? I think I hear David Koch calling.
Naw, that’s just GT talking to himself OUT LOUD again ;)
Ooops edited to say GT v. FT – that happens so often? :)
A place settled many years ago where the Broad and Saluda Rivers merge to form the Congaree River
To the settlers it was called Columbia
To the local Indians it was called Onefuckedupplace

Will government entities such as USC, State Government and Federal Government have to pay the electric tax? Being that they are the reason Columbia’s tax base is half of what it should be, this may not be Mayorhood’s worst idea.
That is a great question for DUKE Energy. :)
Or SCE&G. Duke is the one who is fighting for a monopoly on solar last I read. Initially there were completely against it, can’t say I blame them – heck, it impacts their revenues. Look beyond Duke and the companies who sublease from Duke (i.e. Laurens electric), you can bank on an average of roughly $450 a month for 2-3,000 SF.
I like Nuclear, because it is cheaper, but Solar is cheaper and less potential damage to environment.
Shocker – the State, Feds & USC would all be exempt from paying this…why charge those huge consumers of electricity more when you can just stick it to the taxpayer! Thx Benji!
Don’t confuse people with facts. ESPECIALLY if it involves USC….
Almost certainly not! Are ALL Gruberment agencies exempt from most taxes (just like in Taxifornia)?… AND they get a break on the electric rates as well!
I am an oddball when it comes to anything political. I look at it in the most basic sense. I have argued hard with Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians alike.
We all argue about “where” to spend the money. My philosophy has been to take money out of the equation, save those that are drawn up in the constitution and a balance of power.
Surprise! I support Solar Energy. I wish the technology was here today, but it isn’t. SC is a prime state for Solar Energy due to the amount of sunshine we get. The quality isn’t the same, but …. if the nuclear companies were willing to take back the feed of electricity, it could be far better and cheaper.
There are other ways around that, buy your own battery system and burn off excess. A little risky, but feasible. Don’t recommend for an amateur (like myself), so I am hopeful we get solar. It significantly reduces power bills, but we must be diligent in not allowing companies like Duke to gobble up all the savings.
I’m sure there is a sweet spot somewhere.
I don’t know how this hotdog necked bastard sleeps at night.
By resting his head on a pillow stuffed with taxpayer money, probably.
Yes, likely with one eye open… keeping a look out for the feds.
Feds won’t touch him. Wasn’t someone in his little group recorded saying that? Or was it him? Can’t remember.
Chocolate City, how’s it working out for you… about as well as it’s worked out for every other black run city in this country? T-Bone damn near killing that woman the night of his election was a good indicator of how well the rest of his term would be.
I vote no on that dumb ass idea
I need a new Chrysler 300 for CPD to drive me around in, and Teressa Wilson needs a new Escalade complete with blue lights, red lights and a radio. Why we at it, can someone tell me where the white wimmez is?
lol…I just noticed your avatar is an actual “T-Bone”.
Funny too, because I imagine a property tax relief plan actually does not help black voters in the city of Columbia, as I know there are a lot of renters, but a tax on electricity certainly will hit them in the pocketbook. Wonder how he spins that?
I am generally left-leaning but I wish people would learn to vote on more than skin color when it comes to this clown because that is the only way he has gotten elected. He is terrible.
And don’t even get me started on Teresa Wilson.
“Funny too, because I imagine a property tax relief plan actually does not help black voters in the city of Columbia, as I know there are a lot of renters, but a tax on electricity certainly will hit them in the pocketbook. Wonder how he spins that?”
He doesn’t have to “spin it”. He’s being elected by morons based on skin color. They don’t even realize they are taking the dick.
It’s like the whole “Penny Tax” campaign that was promoted prior to the 2012 election. Many low denominator voters actually thought it was a penny tacked on to the total purchase. Chernoff Newman did a wonderful job of wording it just right, so that Benjamin’s constituents were sufficiently hoodwinked. Then, to ice that ghetto fabulous cake, Lillian cut the number of machines present at predominately white precincts. That’s how they get things done in this crony POS capital city.
Yes. Taxes on electricity, just like taxes on fuel, hurt the poor more than any other group.
You dumb white people. It’s reparations for slavery! Your turn!
Fat boy in cowboy boots…what a joke.
Ah yeah, if you haven’t already seen this midlands circle jerk… complete with Mayor Hotdog Neck in his ridiculous cowboy hat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CYMCSIJ01A
I really don’t think fat boy knows he’s black.
But PROPERTY tax relief doesn’t help the people RENTING in Columbia… only the property owners. Also, renters will NOT reduce rent to reflect lower property taxes, thereby INCREASING their profits AT THE COST OF RENTERS. Benji is heavily involved in property development and investment, right????
Edit : landlords, not renters in 2nd sentence.
Ridiculous farce of a tax.
SCE&G and all other utilities only pay 5% franchise fee taxes.
Anything above that is passed directly along to the customers of that town.
Irmo ran this scam for years claiming they didn’t have any taxes on citizens.
Yet, Irmo charged 7% city franchise fees which was just a direct 2% tax on its citizens.
Just a disgusting political lie.
