|| By FITSNEWS || South Carolina “Republicans” are probably a bit more racist than GOP voters in most other states, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at the latest polling data.
First, let’s start with their views on the occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue – president Barack Obama.
According to the results of the latest Winthrop University poll, only 4.3 percent of South Carolina “Republicans” approve of the job Obama is doing. By contrast, a whopping 91.3 percent disapprove of Obama’s job performance.
We know … “racism,” right?
But wait … South Carolina has a U.S. Senator (Tim Scott) who is black. Twice as black as Obama, actually.
What are his poll numbers like? According to Winthrop’s survey, 83 percent of SCGOP voters approve of the job Scott is doing compared to only 3.5 percent who disapprove. That makes Scott (hands down) the most popular public official in the state, among “Republicans” – much more popular than fellow U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.
Graham, who is white, has a 58.2 percent approval rating among GOP voters. Meanwhile 34.6 percent of “Republicans” disapprove of his performance.
Bottom line? South Carolina “Republicans” (and Democrats) may not be ready to let Scott into their swanky country clubs, but they approve of the job he’s doing in Washington, D.C.
Graham? Not so much …

Odd thing is, what, if anything, has Scott done. See the way it works is, if you have the R behind your name, and you don’t do anything, or create any waves, or stand up for anything, you have great approval numbers. You advocate a position or policy, your numbers drop. Hence, nothing ever gets solved in Congress and the Senate.
Correct. Just vote against everything except wars, serve about 20 years without sponsoring any legislation, then retire (or quit like Demint), get a sweet lobbying job and collect that pension. Term limits, people.

Good grief, I bet there have been well under 50 senate votes on anything since Tim Scott has been in office. It should be easy to compare the two.

Off the top of my head there was the vote to defund Obamacare. The vote that mattered was the cloture vote which required a 60 vote majority. A NO vote was the conservative vote. Scott voted NO while Graham voted YES. cutting of debate to allow a vote that only required a majority. Then they both voted NO. Scott honestly and Graham as usual dishonestly. There have been others where Scott has stood with the conservatives and Graham has stood with the Dims.

Yes, it was the same person that for years Republicans worked diligently to prevent having his birthday designated a holiday.

Those voters who put down Somewhat Acceptable and Refused are the GOP voters who were smart enough not to admit they were racists.
I’m okay with it, most of the mixed marriages I’ve seen you either have a white woman who no white man would ever consider marrying and only go on a date with if he lost a bet, or a white man that would have a hard time even getting an ugly white woman to talk to him.

For sure, there’s some truth that some are racist, what is never discussed though is that Dems are equally racist in their own way.
Even further, it’s verboten to consider that a free country would allow people to be racists, assholes, etc., as long as they aren’t hurting person/property.

You are wrong. This is not politics. This is reality. Racism is a problem in the Republican Party of the south. Its not made up, and there has been a ton of “deep thought” on the matter.
Racism still drives Republican politics in SC. You only need to look at their voter suppression legislation to know that. Not to mention their hatred of everything Obama does or does not do. White people can ignore it if they want. They can pretend its not real, because it does not effect them. But minorities would be fools to nor recognize that little has changed in race relations in this state since the 1960s.

It is not politics to say racism drives Republican political strategy, if it is true. Politics as you put it implies it is a lie, made up by Democrats. That is simply not the case. So let me put it differently then.
Saying that Racism still drives Republican politics in SC is not something made up for political reasons by a political operative, it is true, and if you are from South Carolina you know it is true.

I never claimed the statement that some Republicans are racist “isn’t true”. Go back and re-read my statement.
When you ignore who is driving the narrative, you take a myopic view of a statement made by an opposing party without reflecting on the reason why(like you’ve done here).

Let us not pretend that there aren’t racist Democrats either, not only that, but I could easily argue to the same degree.
I am not a Democrat. I am an independent. I have always been an independent. Over the years I have voted Republican and Democrat. But I grew up here. I come from an upper middle class white family in a small town. I know how politics works here. The odds of a true racist being a Democrat these days are very small. Most of the racists left the Democratic Party in the 70s and early 80s. That is not the case with the Republican party. The odds of a true racist being a Republican in SC are very high.
I use the phrase true racist, because I believe there are a lot of Republicans who are not racists, but who are willing to use the racism of other Republicans to generate voter turn out. They support legislation they know is designed to hurt minorities in order to obtain the support of the racists within their party. I have even less respect for those people than the true racists.
If you took out the true racists and those people who are willing to pander to racists to win elections, you don’t leave
a very big demographic. Throw in the gay haters and it falls even more.

You people are beyond amazing. Even when people admit they are racists, you deny racism is a problem. How do you have a conversation with people who do not want to have a conversation. Do you have a conversation with your dog. That is how true racists feel about having a conversation with black people. People who believe it is immoral for black people and white people to marry or have children are not interested in a conversation. I think you are just embarrassed that the party you support is so racist.
This is not political. Despite the effort of people like TroubleBaby to make it all about politics and talking points. It is not. Racism runs deep in the Republican party. Especially in the South. It owes its very existence to the hatred of “uppty” black people and anger with the national Democratic party over the civil rights legislation of the 1960s. There are far more people like Squishy123 in the Republican Party of the South than people who want to talk out their differences.
I have lived in SC my entire life The Republican Party has always sold itself as the party that will protect you from the blacks. That still drives Republican politics to this date.
As a matter of fact I do talk to my dog :). It is my opinion racism runs in both parties, because both parties are made up of people and it isn’t a party that is racist, it is people who are racist.
I don’t recall the Republican party promising to protect anyone from blacks? It is my strong opinion the Republican Party uses religion far more than race.
I don’t believe it is immoral for black and white people to marry, have children or whatever they decide to do. But….I don’t require a poll to formulate an opinion.

Lee Atwater had a spin until the day he died based on what I have seen/read. Brilliant strategist, but did not appear very honest to me. However, I did not know him, only what I have read or watched.
Why is it if you’re a D and disagree with Scott you are not racist but if you’re an R and disagree with Obama you are?

Scott is a go along get a long kinda guy. When I look at MegaVotes, he typically votes in step with Graham. I have nothing against him personally, but what does he stand for? Does anyone really know?
