U.S. BIRTH, FERTILITY RATES ON THE DECLINE …

|| By FITSNEWS ||  We’ve written extensively on the decline of American civilization … a demise which falls squarely upon the baby boom generation’s leaders of choice.  These elected officials have passed the onus for a host of bad decisions down to future generations … including one too stupid to see how it’s getting taken for a ride.

Of course if we’re going to talk about future generations, it’s important to address another sign of the decline of this country … our vanishing future.

We’re referring to the U.S. birth rate, which has fallen for the last six straight years.  According to the National Center for Health Statistics, there were 3.93 million live births in the United States in 2013 – down from 3.95 million in 2012.

Wanna see the cutest 2013 birth?  Click HERE.

Meanwhile the fertility rate – or the number of babies born to women over the course of their lifetimes – dropped to a record low of 1.86, which is well below the 2.1 percent rate needed to sustain the population.

And well below the rate needed to pay off that insane debt …

Also, these plunging birth and fertility rates come at a time when the percentage of the female population that’s of childbearing age (officially ages 20-39) is at an all-time  high.

Obviously this isn’t the first time we’ve addressed America’s fertility rate (HERE and HERE) … but it is yet another sign of fundamental economic weakness.

“Fewer babies means a contracted consumer economy moving forward – and yes, less taxpayer revenue to deal with the massive pile of debt that’s being accumulated by our current crop of ‘leaders’ in Washington, D.C.,” we wrote last January. “Bottom line? America’s plunging fertility rate is yet another indicator of the unsustainable nature of our country’s current trajectory.”

Again … yup.

It’s also a sign the “Great Recession” which was supposed to have ended in 2009 is in fact still going.

Obama has been F*#king the country for 6-plus years. Thank goodness – if early reaction is any indication – it looks like Hillary will not get the chance to F*#k any of us the way Obama has…….

Blah, blah, blah, broken record. It rained today, dammit Obama. Just wait for Hillary, you dumbass.

Glucagon April 15, 2015 at 8:27 am

Oh gawd no. Not another “just because” election. People voted for and stood beside Obama the dangerous puppet, inexperienced ideologue, “just because” he would be our first black president. Hillary has already shown her incompetence and self-serving covert manipulations. We should not accept those qualities in a male candidate, why would we accept them in Hillary? “Just because” she would be the first woman president? Personally, I’ll wait.

No, stranger things haven’t happened.

You’ll be the first to come on and complain about “thugs”,poor parenting, and people living on the system. But when the mother, who obviously isn’t equipped to have a child to begin with, puts the child and societyout of its impending misery (before you will 18 years later in the electric chair) you complain about that, too.

There is no satisfying some people.

Dropping Fertility Rates April 14, 2015 at 6:58 pm

High fertility rates tend to go hand in hand with poor nations, which is why dirt poor African nations boast some of the highest. There are too many factors that play into it to just blame it on economic woes. Our fertility rates are still higher than many other first world nations, many who are far more liberal, so that doesn’t work either.

“There are too many factors that play into it to just blame it on economic woes.”

You’re right in that you can’t blame it solely on economic woes, but if the implication is that you can’t attribute economic woes as a factor, you’re completely wrong. (see Japan)

And then there is the realization that you don’t need to have 10 kids to help out on the farm. We now have tractors etc. People are delaying having kids. And on and on for the multiple factors.

To base our economy on a birth pyramid scheme is nothing short of folly. Loss of space, clean air, clean water, and other resources is of greater concern to me than how many “potential” (not certain, for sure) taxpayers the baby factories pump out. A negative population growth would be a wonderful thing. Between those being pumped out growing up to be slackers or worse, or maybe malformed and forever dependant on the system to sustain them, trying to base your economy on how many babies are being pumped out is at best, a fool’s errand.

The problem becomes calculating planetary carrying capacity
which is estimated to be between 2 billion and 27 billion people. We know the
lower limit is likely wrong as we are currently at 7 billion people give or
take a few million. With two-thirds of those estimates falling between 4
billion and 16 billion. Of course part of the problem of tracking the carrying capacity
is it is somewhat fluid based on environmentally factors, there are ways to
manipulate to the benefit of humans and to the detriment of other species, and
we have no other similar system to compare it to.

We are likely already above baseline capacity which could be
set as a hunter-gather system (assuredly over) or basic agriculture (most
likely over). Modern agriculture allows us to grow food more efficiently and
some biotech breakthroughs may allow us to double or quadruple currently food
production. Modern herbicides, pesticides, GMO techniques, fertilizers to
enrich poor soil and irrigation techniques make the desert bloom.

Of course food production isn’t the only limiting factor,
the major factor is clean water for drinking, sanitation, irrigation, and industrial
processes to keep the systems running, so desalinization will eventually become
a requirement and that requires lots of energy. Next we have to make sure we
have systems in place for waste disposal, recycling and reuse (human and solid
waste). Energy production is a going to become a huge issue as populations
increase, transportation, heating and cooling homes businesses, desalinization and
transportation of water etc. Then there is the massive supply chains that have
to be developed to get things from where they are to where they need to be.
Another issue is disease control in high density populations and people
expanding to areas heretofore unsettled will likely expose groups to new and possibly
more deadly pathogens. If these are contagious and begin to spread throughout a
population with no immunity then all bets are off as to what could happen.

The current population of the planet can fit in an area smaller
than Texas at the population density of New York City, at the population
density of Tokyo or Beijing you could fit them all in South Carolina.

As long as you can continue to make improvements in all the
above areas we should be able to push closer to upper limits of the carrying capacity
and even slightly past the theoretical upper limit as long as we can maintain
the system in something close to perfect order. The problem comes when a wrench
gets thrown in to the system and the more complex a system becomes the more
likely it will succumb to systemic failure due to unforeseen interactions
between sub-systems. When that happens nature will reduce the population back
to the natural carrying capacity (hunter-gathers or basic agriculture) or
below. The problem is nature can be a cruel mistress and deals in death via
famine, disease, thirst, war, and exposure.

All of that being said we live in a catch-22 situation our
greatest economic expansions have come during periods of increasing populations
and birth rates. The Baby Boom of the late 1940s through the early 1960, and
the echo boom during the 80s and 90s are the most recent examples. More
consumers purchase more things thus increasing economic activity and tax receipts.
When the birth rates drop back off the reveres happens. What’s the happy
balance? I really don’t have an answer to that.
