CONGRESSMAN BLASTS STATE DEPARTMENT FOR FAILURE TO PROVIDE NOTIFICATION TO COMMUNITIES
|| By FITSNEWS || On the heels of our big report earlier this month exposing a so-called “evangelical” refugee resettlement plan for the South Carolina Upstate, U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy is asking questions about the proposed influx of immigrants.
Gowdy sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry this week outlining his reservations. He also called for a halt to the resettlement until his concerns (and the concerns of the community) had been addressed.
“I am deeply concerned about the lack of notice, information, and consultation afforded to me and my constituents about this issue,” Gowdy wrote, addressing a series of questions to Kerry about the plan.
Specifically, Gowdy grilled Kerry on how the planned resettlement came into being, which state agencies approved it, how much government funding the project is receiving, what benefits the refugees would be eligible to receive, when the first refugees were scheduled to arrive, how the refugees were selected and what sort of long-term obligations their presence would impose on taxpayers.
All told, Gowdy posed seventeen pointed questions related to the project to Kerry (all of which you can read HERE, in his letter).
“I request that any plans to resettle refugees in the Spartanburg, South Carolina, area be placed on hold until my constituents and I receive your substantive responses to the questions and information requested in this letter,” Gowdy wrote. “Additionally, before moving forward, both the Spartanburg community and I should have time to substantively review the information and be comfortable with the information provided.”
Gowdy’s letter echoed comments made earlier by S.C. Rep. Donna Hicks – who cited “serious concerns” about the project “that have not even remotely been addressed.”
“Until they are addressed there is no way we should subject our communities to unnecessary risk or cost,” she said.

Props to Gowdy and Hicks for shining the light on this issue – as well as to Upstate activist Christina Jeffrey, who has been organizing opposition to the plan.
As we noted in our report, “previous resettlement campaigns couched as ‘evangelical’ efforts have in reality been front groups for liberal campaigns like the National Immigration Forum – a group that’s received funding from organizations affiliated with billionaire liberal financier George Soros.
“Faith-based compassion is a wonderful thing, but just as one’s religious beliefs shouldn’t be imposed on another without consent … neither should taxpayer obligations based on those beliefs,” we wrote.

I have paid well over $1 million in income taxes in my lifetime and I just turned 41…Incidentally, my house is fairly modest (around 2000 sqft) and yes, it holds all six of us quite sufficiently. .. I would bet I give a heck of a lot more to charity than you…though perhaps not in taxes…BTW, my car is 16 years old and I’m the third owner…And yes, I work over 80 hours+ a week…I’d rather give monies to charities with low overhead than to bloated gubmint bureaucracies where only a fraction of the monies reach those in need. ..

I am sometimes a little embarrassed when when our CPA view our tax deductions – few to charity. But I am happy inside they don’t have a right to condemn nor boast on my behalf.
True charity is giving within the IRS guidelines, without expectation anything will be return. Yes, I do give to deductible charities I believe in, but far more outside the scope of tax deduction.

Problem is (if you EVER paid attention to the Bantus in Columbia) limited resources and competition for things like housing and jobs. You’ll see the relocation organizations come in, do a little set-up tap dance, then move on to the NEXT “good deed”. Local and state government will be left holding the bag, and the pre-existing low-income residents will be shuffled to the back of the line for housing and services (of which they’ll get none due to housing being filled up by the refugees and budgets being exhausted by refugee needs). And the people with the bright idea to bring the refugees in will be long gone.
