Please. I once lived in a mansion in one of the nicest parts of Greensboro NC. The popular award-winning Science Fiction writer Orson Scott Card was a neighbor — he’s pretty rich. I was renting a room there, since a good friend had hooked up with the ex-wife of the CEO of a Fortune 500 company, who had gotten the house in the divorce, and he talked her into giving me a very good deal. The house was a pigsty. Every room. I’m kinda messy, but my room was neat compared to the rest of the house. Three teens in the family, two of them girls. Even the hallways were littered with sneakers, dirty socks, underwear, and trash. It’s not about money, and it’s not about social class. Some people are just total pigs.

These “government-run” (no dog whistle there, for sure. Right Sic?) schools’ decision on what sex ed program to teach is determined by the local community/parents/school board. In most cases, these “deciders” would rather let their daughters get pregnant and hide their holier-than-thou heads in the sand rather than promote a pregnancy prevention program that can show some actual positive results. They will tell you, “those programs don’t reflect our community’s values” What, knocked up teenage girls reflects your community values?

The best way to reduce unplanned pregnancies and abortion is by comprehensive age-appropriate sex education and availability of effective contraception regardless of age or financial ability.
It has been proven over and over that abstinence-only programs are ineffective, while giving the option of effective contraception at no cost to the patient saves more than the cost of the contraception by avoiding future welfare and medical expense to the government.
Now if we could just convince the slut-shamers of this reality. . . .
