WILL COMPANY GET A REPRIEVE?
|| By FITSNEWS || Crony capitalist aircraft manufacturer Boeing and commercial airliner Delta are at each other’s throats when it comes to reauthorization of the U.S. Export-Import Bank (a.k.a. “Boeing’s Bank“), but the two corporations have found a common enemy in the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
In the aftermath of the IAM’s aborted attempt to unionize Delta flight attendants, the National Mediation Board (NMB) stated it “has reason to believe that some unknown person or persons knowingly submitted authorization cards with fraudulent signatures in a possible violation of federal law.”
As a result, the board “has decided to refer the matter to the appropriate office of the United States Department of Justice for further review.”
Delta was “very encouraged” by the board’s actions.
“At the time of the IAM filing in January, many flight attendants were raising questions regarding the validity of the authorization cards the IAM submitted,” Delta’s executive vice president Joanne Smith said in a statement.
Now Boeing – which is staring down a protracted IAM siege at its heavily government-subsidized North Charleston, S.C. facility – is looking to make some hay over the IAM’s troubles.
And maybe more than that …
“Since the IAM withdrew its petition to represent Delta Air Lines Flight Attendants following the IAM’s admission to having submitted cards not actually signed by eligible employees, we have received many questions about whether the IAM may have engaged in similar conduct with Boeing teammates, and if there is anything teammates can do,” read a post from the We Are Boeing SC Facebook page.
The group also warned workers that the IAM was sending “125 union salesmen (probably from their failed Delta campaign) to ‘blitz’ Boeing SC teammates at home.”
“Teammates have no obligation to let the salesman into their homes,” the post continued, adding that “we’ve heard from many of our teammates that you are tired of unwanted IAM visits to your home.”
What Boeing and its allies do next is critical …
If Boeing believes there’s a chance it might lose the upcoming union election (currently scheduled for April 22), it could file a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in an effort to stall the vote. However if Boeing believes it is in no danger of losing the election – it will likely confine its “hay-making” within the public relations sphere.
Sources on both sides of this battle have consistently told FITS that the IAM is unlikely to win its first union election against Boeing – and that the entire exercise is viewed by the union as “training” for the “real fight.”
In other words whatever happens on April 22, this fight is just getting started …
FITS first alerted our readers to the IAM unionization push last August (and updated them on the union’s building momentum in January and February). We will continue to follow the brewing battle as it unfolds this spring … and beyond.

FITS asks: “WILL COMPANY GET A REPRIEVE?”…
LMAO…as if the dirtball union thugs had a REAL chance after what they have done to jobs in this country…w/ their lord-god Obama…
FITS is a F*#king Dumb@$$ no doubt…but for those of you sucking on his EVERY word…you are just a F*#king ignorant as he is…
Thanks for the Belly laugh…I’m going to chuckle for a while thinking about how F*#king stupid FITS – and you liberals who love him- are….Hahahahaha…
No wonder Hillary is your ONE and ONLY candidate for 2016…LMAO…
How many Boeing employees have you actually spoken to on this issue?
Don’t get p!$$#d at me…FITS is the one walking back his enthusiasm for a union win…
That said: look at the direction of unions…and the peoples’ opinion of them….You have a MAJOR uphill battle. Your reputation is abysmal…at a time when a GOOD job is at a premium…because of a HORRIBLE union-supporting president…
Corporate media puts whatever spin they want on an issue, and glassy-eyed idiots lap it up. Reputations can be destroyed easily when only one side is ever presented.
We only need ONE, stupid !
Especially when an article starts with “Crony capitalists…” You know this is a left-wing, anti free market enterprise
… Or a “bleed/lead” opener … FITs stirs the pot just to see which frog tries to jump out.
Very interesting that with jobs being shipped overseas by unregulated corporations that now, per the Supreme Court are people, with better rights than US Citizens.
In the worse depression since 1929 still going on, and South Carolina one of the worse places for out of work and under work employment.
That the rights of the workers & out of work, workers to stand united against this outrage. Some how now seems wrong! Based upon some stupid 90 year old yankee vs southerner mill worker jobs issues from the 1900s.
It all just summarizes how dumb we still are, as unions may be the only way to protect US jobs, now and in the future. I don’t care for unions either, but the corporations are kicking our behinds, shipping jobs off shore, bringing in foreign workers to take what few good jobs that still exist in the USA and even buying up our homes to sell to the Chinese so they can make us rent them back.
Exactly, at what point do we say enough is enough with our bribed Congress, Supreme Court, and White House???
We’re dumb because we’re not in favor of a union…????
Have you seen the disaster the union has become…????
You are not THAT F*#king ignorant are you???? (no need to answer)…
Your cliched and typical bashing of SC – because we don’t march in locksept w/ stupidity – just does not get it anymore…especially when you show yourself to be so F*#king out-of-touch with reality and so stupid…
Your inability to use the English language in a proper manner. Further, your complete lack of education, is the exact reason we are in the position we are in right now. The uneducated pawns of corporate string pullers who have caused this entire mess. When you have the ability, or education, to address the question in an intelligent manner, or offer a reasonable alternative; then you will be considered part of the solution and not part of the problem.
We have an ELITIST here!!!!! – If we judge how someone speaks/writes then we don’t belong in here! – Our current president, as I’ve bent told, is the smartest one we have ever had – I did research his educational background and could not find what supports that – All I saw that he was an elitist that has no wisdom in how to govern – That is why this country is in the position we are now in!
Liberals have all the answers. To hear them tell it. But in actual practice they are the problem , not the solution.
Utopia is what they want you to believe in – The problem is getting there and keeping it in place – To them, these are just minor details – THE FACT IS: It worked well in a book but it’s like gravity….. it can’t be changed
Yep, and conservatives will whore themselves out to whoever or whatever will pay the most. I despise BOTH extremes, as they are BOTH crooked.
Which is a hell of a lot better position than it was when the last President left office.
Of course, you as his supporter is saying such garbage – The previous one did not forced everyone to fundamentally change their lives – Why would you say that of one who has managed a government city and a corporation that has to deal with budgets and payrolls vs. a community organizer that was involved in questionable teachings and a senator for 1.5 years who voted present most of the times prior to run for president and was voted in just to make a historical point – This guy was not vetted at all and is still being vested by our liberal media – Most of his supporters cant even name who was the 1st woman secretary of state of the US, let alone on how this countries foreign policy is destroying world peace
Sorry Jack and that’s the fact!
So, being educated enough to understand a problem and seek workable solutions is somehow bad? Oh, and FBHO. We both agree that he’s a liar and an incompetent. The difference between us is that I’m willing to see ALL sides of an issue whereas you are not. It appears ELCID is also one of those who is willing to examine the totality of issues.
I will take wisdom any day vs. a little piece of paper saying that I’m smarter because I went to a school that brainwashed me to think that the country that I live in is the cause of all of the world’s problems – I went to school prior to it bashing America – My kids unfortunately did not – Not to worry because I was there to protect them – A long time ago, my youngest (was a 4th grader) tells me that her teacher said guns kill – Which then I took out my gun, removed the bullets and set it on the bed – I asked her what is the gun doing – She said nothing, then said it’s the bullets! – Which then I picked one up and tossed it to her – Did that killed you? – She said no! – So I acted out to her that if I put the bullet in the gun and shoot it, that is how someone gets hurt, just like I can pick up a bat, a brick and hurt someone – So she got it that people kill with whatever they want to use – I saved her from a liberal brainwashing teacher – That is WISDOM!!!!!!!!
I can tell when I Bust your @$$…because you go straight to personal attacks…which is about all you have if anyone counters your Stupid liberal Bull-$#!t with reason and reality…LMAO…
You’re really pretty empty and simple. Lacking content of mind…
Hey, ^$%^$^, he’s right. Oh, and I grew up in SC, so I have EVERY right to call it the way I see it. ELCID is dead-on, and you are a liar. At least, when you aren’t quite so…. unintelligible.
That’s REAL coherent…NOT….LMAO…
The unions weren’t able to save GM, Ford and Chrysler jobs. The unions were responsible for Detroit’s decline and bankruptcy. The unions drove jobs overseas.
You are exactly right. No argument. When either labor or management get too far in control: bad things happen. Right now, it’s management, or more correctly: unregulated corporate greed; that has put our economy and freedoms at risk.
It was the rise of the unions in 1880s that stopped the Robber Barons. But, they almost took the USA to Communism. There must be a balance. Right now, there is none.
I’m open to suggestions for something else to do, as it looks like our bribed political systems have failed us miserably. So, what to do: now that Teddy Roosevelt is dead???
Free market is the only solution – If you are worth more to a corporation, you will advance and grow – If you are just another another number you then need to rely on the unions – Meaning that they need to take your money (fees) to make you think you are getting ahead by being a club member – In that case, you are just still another number wasting your money
OK: agreed. But, we do not have a Free Market.
Free Trade, as Defined by David Ricardo in the 1820s in the USA, does not allow selling foreign goods back into the home markets against existing suppliers. As it destroys the home markets, and society. Thus, we are faced with clear violations of the logical foundations of a Free Market Society. When Corporations Cheat, as they are freely doing now, then the labor must respond in kind. Thus, the creation of organized labor. It historically has been the only workable solution to robber barons. And, the only thing that has created and even saved democracies i.e., USA in 1900, France in early 1800s, England in 1600s, etc., etc.
Again, I don’t like Unions, per’, Se’, I’m open to better ideas. Unfortunately, the free market concept has failed.
Free market is just that – With no anti-business growth regulations being added by the thousands weekly by this administration – I’ve seen the difference between corporate free market and the little mom & pops free market – One is driven by the stock holders and of course the other is not – This administration is killing off the mom & pops and making it more costly for the corporations to be able to grow without being penalized – Definitions of past terms in today’s ever changing markets must not dictate the current times and the future as well – I’m aware of some obscure laws that were past in the early 1900s that just make no sense today – We sure have a problem with our government’s lack of updating the laws and we need to get involve to fix it – This country belongs to the people and not the ones we send to Washington
The above statement is a lie by a obvious corporate lackey.
LOL!!!!!!!! – I will say that your comment is hilarious – Seeing your name is even funnier
And you’re living in a fantasy world. You’ve obviously never worked for a corporation. Production expectation for a position is X. You are capable of producing X+10. I think we both agree that you SHOULD be worth more to your company than a worker who only produces X. In the real world, production is scheduled, and there is no real value to the corporation in the exceptional employee who demands more for that exceptionalism, except in one case. Management will make their bonuses regardless, and the only way they can really increase those bonuses is to reduce the number of employees while maintaining production (overproduction is not desirable, as you don’t want an excess of product sitting and tying up money). To reduce costs by reducing staff generally means NOT paying remaining staff more, but rather telling them how lucky they are to still have a job given the layoffs. OR they can simply move everything overseas and still CLAIM to be a US company for tax and market purposes.
If you can’t take the heat…. then……. – Well you know – Freedom is what I live for and no one can’t take that away from me – Obviously, you might have an issue on who you want to work for or not – All I know is that I was born naked and the clothes that I have on was not given to me – Right now, the corporations have tons of money sitting there not being invested or like you said, they have moved out…. Unintentional consequences comes to my mind when seeing this due to higher taxes and unions intervening all for the sake of the middle-class – The unions says they work and fight hard for the middle-class and the companies will pay!!! – Yeah right – All I see is the union bosses and government getting fatter and the rest are being brainwashed in to thinking that they are better off – If I need to rely on someone else to make my life better when they don’t even pay for my rent and lifestyle, I’am at their mercy – FREEDOM RINGS!
Well, the only solution that works out best for everyone. However, guess where all of the bad guys gravitate when markets are totally free? “Where the money is” … Banks and Brokers.
Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson are both dead. But the “progressive” Fascist plans of Gruberment seizure of private properties lives on.
It’s pretty well established that MANAGEMENT screwed those companies up. One of my uncles was IN management at Chrysler, and freely admitted that THEY screwed up the company -the union thing was just deflecting blame. Not that he really cared, he got his, and retired VERY well off. Not a bit of shame or denial about it from him -he MADE his money. So I guess I see a side you don’t, or simply WON’T.
I’m sure that management made mistakes, but they were brought on by union pressure. I doubt you can find many municipal bankruptcies that didn’t heavily involve public employee unions. Most manufacturing bankruptcies and bailouts also involved union companies.
If you look nationwide, it has been mostly non union companies that have created new jobs and union membership as a percentage of the private sector work force has steadily declined from 36% in the 1960’s to 6.6% now.
Dumb analogy, is Detroit the only city in America you people want use as an example for union presence?
San Francisco?, Chicago?, New York?, Hollywood?, Saint Louis (McDonnell Douglass)?, And smoke stack town in Connecticut?, Newark?, Cleveland?, New Orleans?, Minneapolis?, Boulder?, Seattle? … Dearborn, Ann Arbor, Flint. …
Don’t confuse these guys with the truth.
As a worker at BSC the Blue No shirts buttons and lanyards where winning out over the Red Yes shirts. The IAM is not being received very well they still think we are a bunch of hicks (refer to the Seattle Times comment sections). We know the devil we have now and voting in an unknown (IAM) is not in our best interest.
Given the number of skilled workers that Boeing is having to import to Charleston from outside SC it is only a matter of time before they convince the others that the union would lead to, if noting else, higher wages and better working conditions.
Yeah…. because in S.C, they don’t have electricity and running water – They have children running the coal steam engines to provide what ever power available and heard that they work 16 hour days – The woman also have to be there to cook and clean as well – Oh the horror!!!!!!
My wife and I have to work 12 hours per day, each, out here in Taxifornia just to stay ahead of the g.. d… taxes and union dues.
Well come on down to South Carolina and work for a lot fking less. Problem solved.
AS I have said, I would bring my own means of support. I figure that cutting my income 25% and then cutting housing by 50%, food by 25%, fuel by 20%, and the costs of taxes by 30% … is math wise, a very good idea. The only place less expensive with deep sea fishing and warm weather is in Mexico.
South Carolinians don’t care about wages or better/ safer working conditions… only kissing the bosses’ asses thinking they’ll “get ahead”. “union” implies people working together…. something South Carolinians have NEVER been any good at, regardless of cost or benefit.
Spoken like a true believer … and a “progressive” Helot. That’s right, blame the South Carolina workers …
Attention SC Hicks who just kiss your bosses’ asses…Vote “Yes” and this guy will be your shop steward…
Mmmmm … maybe. And if some of those out-of-town workers are coming to SC specifically to get shut of the unionized work environments?
Yep. but it isn’t the employees paying for those blue buttons and lanyards. Boeing is spending a FORTUNE on the “no” campaign…. but not on employees or benefits.
… and that is a not “supply and demand” real world answer.
OK, Boeing is a big company. OK, Boeing is trying to save some costs on manufacturing high tech airplanes. OK, Boeing is looking out for the interests of Boeing management AND Boeing shareholders.
If those red shirts, blue shirts and buttons are readily available, I would guess that both the IAM and Boeing are spending similar amounts.
Who is paying for the “Yes” vote Paraphernalia.
A Sensible Answer.
When I worked for Delta, back at MIA when Eastern was around, I recalled when I had to physically transferred small cargo between both airlines – It took 2 Delta employees vs. 5 from Eastern to do this – I asked the Eastern manager why and he said it’s union rules – I’m talking about 1 had to offload it, another had to inspect it, another had to move it to a different location and so on….. For the life of me I could not understand it.
In another instance, my best friend started to work for Eastern avionics maintenance and was assigned his 1st aircraft (A300) – He went in an took care of it within 3 hours and came out to ask for another job – He was told that’s not how we do things here and was basically told to go back in to the A300 and do nothing! – He asked another co-worker why and was told that no new guy was going to come in and out perform anyone in here – He said that he was just doing his job and the co-worker replied that it’s a union thing! – All I know is that Eastern is long gone and I’m still getting my pension from Delta – Back then, only the pilots were unionized through ALPA – Everyone was happy and satisfied working for Delta without any union intervention
I’ve seen al lot of that on other union jobs, especially g’ment unions.
It is called Featherbedding. It used to happen a lot in the railroad unions, but railroad freight management found ways to curtail it by hiring non-union short line companies to operate in the freight yards, etc. … Nothing works better than a bit of free market competition.
Thanks! – Looked it up and found: Featherbedding is the practice of hiring more workers than are needed to perform a given job, or to adopt work procedures which appear pointless, complex and time-consuming merely to employ additional workers
Surely does sound like most government entities and what I witnessed as well!
You can see featherbedding in action in New Jersey just about everywhere hard hat construction is happening. … or on TV: Check out the last season of “the Sopranos”.
And it is ALSO why RTW states have the worst pay and education. After all, it’s easier to take advantage of uneducated people.
While I don’t approve of improper actions unions have been accused of, I recognize that we generally only hear one side of the story -businesses control the media and have the money. We never hear about poor treatment of employees or improper activities conducted by employers against employees. This is the way businesses want it… after all, when the CEO of Boeing claims that the payroll at a union plant is crippling the company, we generally DON’T hear about how that CEO’s paycheck is larger than the ENTIRE union payroll at that plant.
Corporations are not innocent or pure as the driven snow, yet people here seem to believe that if they just give the fox (corporation) the keys to the henhouse, the hens will prosper. There has to be a check and balance for corporate power. It most definitely isn’t the state labor board that is controlled by politicians who are in turn controlled by corporate campaign donations and favors. Follow the money, and you’ll find that it leads to the corporations. Interestingly, they have FAR more mponey and make MUCH LARGER donations to PACs and campaigns than unions can afford to. But hey, don’t let fact get in the way of your fantasies (or personal interests).
Apparently you’re only here to call people names and offer no solutions. Obvious Union shill. You’re the type of person that needs someone to tell you what to do and wants the government to provide for all of your needs. Your hard working forefathers would be embarrassed by you.
Worst pay? Relative to what? The actual cost of living? And how about all those that no longer have jobs in the non-RTW states…having lost them to workers in those that have RTW legislation? They doing well, are they?
Sorry, but as I see it, the primary characteristic of union membership over the last few decades has been the LIKELIHOOD OF LOSING ONE’S JOB! Doubt it? Then I suggest you look at the union membership/job statistics over that time frame.
Now, maybe in YOUR world, a privileged few having higher wages, while the bulk of their fellow have none is a good thing….but from my perspective, give me “RTW” (and it’s increased offering of job opportunities) 7 days a week and twice on Sundays.
Right Arm! … Check out the Big Mac index for right-to-work states verses not …
RTW Texas has some pretty good schools. ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_colleges_and_universities_in_Texas )
Truthmonger: Are you one of those trickle down poverty guys? One of those “fair share” “robin hood” types?
Look, all of the school/teacher questions are only exacerbated in non-RTW states.

“Corporations are not innocent or pure as the driven snow …”
Hey, It Is A Jungle Out There. The real slimes hang out in Gruberment and steal from the rich and keep it. Of course you would not know any of that, since you don’t have a private sector job.
Same IAM that offered tepid support keeping the Charleston Navy Yard open and losing how many thousand jobs including a few hundred IAM spread across several codes and shops. Got their money and GONE!
IAM is considering throwing in the towel
If they withdraw the petition, IAM can reapply in six months. If they lose the election, then IAM must wait a year. The advantage of petition withdrawal is that they get the identities and addresses of eligible voters and size of organizing unit and use that to better prepare for the next petition. The petition was for 2400 employees but NLRB determined it to be 3175. That is also useful information.
The IAM also gets to gage the resistance, strategy and effectiveness of political and company opposition.

Welcome to South Carolina, where we’ll build it cheaper than our competitors, just to piss you people off.
‘tol ya all … They be coming back every year to try again and again.
FOR HISTORY BUFFS — The founder of the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF MACHINIST, Thomas W. Talbot, was born in Chesterfield Co. S.C.and killed and buried in Florence. Though this history white washes his and IAM’s racist views and policies.

Not anymore racist than the other Confederate Rag wavers and Strom Thurmond worshipers in South Carolina. Then there’s the Klan carrying card member Vance Muse, for whom the whole “right to work for less” movement was founded.
“Muse’s sister and associate at the Christan American Association, Ida Darden, openly complained about the First Lady’s “Eleanor Clubs” saying they (as related by Kennedy):
…stood for “$15 a week salary for all nigger house help, Sundays off, no washing, and no cleaning upstairs.” As an afterthought, she added, “My nigger maid wouldn’t dare sit down in the same room with me unless she sat on the floor at my feet!”
Allowing herself to go still further, the little lady went on to say, “Christian Americans can’t afford to be anti-Semitic, but we know where we stand on the Jews, all right.”
We wouldn’t want to interfere with you good southern American christians’ beliefs.
“From now on, white women and white men will be forced into organizations with black African apes whom they will have to call ‘brother’ or lose their jobs.” — Vance Muse, founder of the “right to work” anti-labor campaign
Vance Muse and sister, both Democrats.
