BAIL DENIED, PROTESTERS RAGE, BODY CAMERAS ORDERED …
|| By FITSNEWS || The white police officer charged with murder in the shooting death of 50-year-old Walter Scott has been fired from his job, North Charleston, S.C. officials said. The officer – 33-year-old Michael Slager – has also been denied bond by a judge on his murder rap, meaning he will stay behind bars as prosecutors determine how to handle his case.
The incident – which has made international news – prompted a chaotic city press conference repeatedly interrupted by protesters chanting “no justice, no peace.”
Wait … isn’t justice in the process of being served? Well, yeah … but only because an anonymous video of the shooting got leaked to a local newspaper.
Prior to the release of the video, North Charleston police claimed Scott was gunned down by Slager because he posed a legitimate threat to the officer’s safety – having engaged in a scuffle with Slager which resulting in him obtaining the officer’s taser weapon. Police also said Scott was fatally shot following a “foot pursuit” and that officers attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in an attempt to revive him.
While the video depicted what appears to have been a minor scuffle, the rest of the police narrative turned out to be highly suspect – if not completely fabricated.
There was no “foot pursuit” – nor does it appear as though Scott ever had complete possession of Slager’s taser.
And while there does appear to have been a brief scuffle precipitating the shooting, the damning video clearly depicts Scott running away from Slager at the time he was shot – eight times. Furthermore, no CPR appears to have been administered prior to Scott succumbing to his wounds.
All this because there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest over failure to pay child support …
In announcing Slager’s firing, North Charleston mayor Keith Summey said the officer’s wife – who is eight months pregnant – will remain on the city’s insurance policy until after her baby is born.
“We think it’s the humane thing to do,” Summey said.
Summey also announced North Charleston had ordered 250 body cameras for its officers … something the city would have already done (or been required to do) had our advice been followed in the wake of last year’s officer-involved shooting in Ferguson, Missouri.
That shooting prompted violent protests … even though the facts of the case (unlike the facts in this case) appeared to justify the officer’s actions.
Protests in the Palmetto State have been peaceful … so far.

Of course ALL of this could have been avoided if Mr. Scott had just complied with the Officer and not tried to resist arrest or flee the scene. I don’t say that to justify the Officer shooting him, I believe the shooting was clearly bad and firmly believe the officer should face charges and if found guilty, as I suspect he will be, face the consequences.
The black and white race issue will do nothing but prevent the more important issues that could save lives in the future from being dealt with. Things like teaching people the importance of COMPLYING with the Police and how to properly bring complaints against them if they have done something wrong. Better hiring practices by Police Departments and developing better ways to screen them so these egotistical, power-hungry types who wet their pants and start puling the trigger every time someone flinches don’t end up wearing a badge.
I can’t confirm any of this, but from what I have read online (I know!) the victim had a felony warrant out for his arrest. From what I understand, according to the law, the police have the right to shoot a fleeing suspect who is wanted on a felony warrant (Fits, can you confirm this?). Did the cop know that at the time?Doubtful. Also, did the cop know the victim dropped the taser? Potentially. If not, an armed fleeing suspect wanted on a felony warrant can legally get shot. Who knows, I’m thinking this thing is far from over or an open and shut case. If the cop gets off on this technicality, I guarantee you the riots are coming to Charleston.
I think the warrant was for not paying child support. I think it’s highly unlikely the cops have the right to shoot a fleeing suspect unless he’s literally running with an immediate risk of endangering the life of the cop or others (i.e. running behind a tree to shoot, or running into a building while armed).

Look at the quality of this body cam on a Daytona officer who caught a carjacker that murdered a Benedict instructor here in Columbia, from late March, it is amazing, and police work as well. And this is in a pitch dark swamp in the early morning, pursuing a carjacking murderer. It only breaks up towards the end of the video when the police lights are near. Now compare this to the lazy ass cop in N. Chas, who couldn’t even bring himself to a foot pursuit of maybe four or five yards on a fifty year old chub who was ‘running’ about as fast as my 9 year old 8 pound blind-in-one eye chihuahua.

Very interesting. Cyclists use the Go-Pros (is that the right name?) all the time, in the event they are run off the road by a vehicle and also simply to track their rides. You can replay them on your tablet mounted to your handle-bars when riding indoors during the winter or rain, and adjust your stationary ride to the heart-rate and speed of the outdoor ride using graphing tech that comes with the device, there is so much technology available for the common man. Yet the officer quoted above thinks ‘it’s too hard.’ Whaaa! While the Daytona cops in the video below are the very picture of professionalism, (I know if it were me with all that adrenaline would have at least punched the dude, just once, just once) and maybe someone in LE can tell me–it looks like the part of the video in the car was recorded on his body cam as well, it doesn’t appear to be a dashboard mounted camera. No, I went through almost two and a half years in a program that I could only say was something like the National Guard. I had to ride and attend LE training at least one three day weekend a month and attend Academy classes during a two week period each year. I was qualified to begin drawing full pay on a no charge CJ degree but decided at the last minute that my temperament at time, I was 22, was going to get me in trouble.
Let’s say they cost $1000 each. That looks like $250,000 to me. My point is this: $250,000 spent months ago would have been a bargain, compared to what North Charleston will pay before this episode is over.

The interesting thing Brigid, how was he tasered if he grabbed his taser? An earlier, more “graphic” video was shown and it indicated that the officer had planted the taser beside him.

It did look that way, but Charleston Thug Life, who takes on crooked cops all the time, naming them, broke it down and captured stills, and he did not plant the taser beside the man, he re-holstered it. I do not know what that object was however that the cop wiped off and dropped beside the man, and I would love to know. Who knows what that cop was thinking, or not thinking at all? Address the issue head on. Let justice prevail. I am not calling for a death sentence for the Police officer, but if after all the evidence comes into play if he is found guilty, life in prison with no parole. There was a man who grabbed a baby out of the other’s cart in Walmart, and held a knife to the baby’s throat. The police distracted him and shot him, ok, the baby was in immediate danger. Looks like they might have taken the video down, I watched it early this a.m. The 50 year old was running in handcuffs while he was being fired upon, at least 8 or 9 shots, recorded by a bystander, he also had taser marks. The video does not look good for the cop.

Below what Slager said over the radio and what was actually happening. I know it can be hard to judge age but missing it by 25 years?
Eyewitness video of the incident shows as many as eight shots were fired, but the radio transmissions between Slager and police officials indicate Scott was only hit once on his left side and once in the butt.
The transmissions, when paired with the video, also show discrepancies in what was being relayed to dispatchers and what the video shows.
“I’m at Rivers near the pawn shop. We’re headed now — Shots fired! Subject is down. He’s near my feet,” Slager can be heard saying in the transmissions.
However, Scott was more than a dozen feet away and running from Slager when he collapsed.
Slager is told to make sure the scene is secure.
“It is,” Slager responds. “Another gunshot wound to his butt… Give information to you now. Black male, mid-20s to 30s. Gunshot wound to the left side, the the back, one left side to the buttock. All responsive at the job. First aid.”
Again, they eyewitness video seems to show something different than what is described in the radio transmission. The video show’s Scott being cuffed after he was shot, but does not seem to show first aid being rendered.
What is visible is Slager picking up something from the ground and dropping it near Scott.
He picked up the Taser he dropped when he switched to his pistol. In the video he can be seen going pack to get it in the video, taking it and dropping it near Mr. Scott, then later holstering it. – “part of securing the scene”.
Rendering “first aid” is the last step and it should never be done by the officer who did the shooting. What “CPR” or “First Aid” looks like is different in every case – it was obvious to me that Mr. Scott was dead when Slager cuffed him, the body just flops back to the ground with no muscular tension. The Officer in the gloves can be seen apparently checking for a pulse.
You NEVER PERFORM CPR ON A GUN SHOT VICTIM, all you will do is speed up the exsanguination. Every chest compression you perform pushes blood out of the circulatory system and onto the ground or inside the thoracic cavity. You can perform mouth to mouth but you should always try to stop the bleeding first.
Why is their concern for justice and lives of Americans motivated by racial hatred and Democrat politics?

The point is that black on black crime is overlooked and when a cop does the same thing it escalates into insanity, because the police have badges to hide behind. However, black on black murder is 9 of 10 if not 99% in some places like Chicago, and the piles of bodies get no attention from the media or from race hustlers like Rev. Al. Those numbers don’t lie. But no one seems to care about those dead black people.

Well, sadly, the murder rate is about the same all over the country. For homicide stats, 91% of the time, when a black person is murdered it is another black person. I am old enough to remember a time in the 1990s when the black public had Stop the Violence movements, hip hop records about it, and it was often spoken about by activists, but in 2015, it is apparently racist to discuss this. That is why any people myself included are exasperated when race hustlers like Al Sharpton has nothing to say about it, but plenty to say about the rare occurrence of a white officer killing a black person. Speaking of making money off this, HE is the one who stands to profit whenever these incidents occur.

I didn’t really grow up in a racist area, somewhat, but I always argued that people are people, they are a product of experience. That was a debate that started around 6 or 7 years old. Many in my area, which were white trailer trash, would disagree. I have experienced racism directed at me, but I have also experienced working through that to find some common ground.
It’s really hard, even when people injure you, if they say “I’m sorry,” not to forgive them. We (Republicans) don’t do that, we go on offense and that just makes it worse. It’s like picking at an old scab and never gives it a chance to heal.
Let their voices and concerns be heard. Apologize where we were wrong, slavery was brutal. Ask for forgiveness and try to work together.

I am going to give a very personal experience of prejudice. I am part Indian, among other mixed breeds, but I have traced my bloodline back to Scottland 1600’s – imagine that.
One of my great great’s was part of the Revolutionary War, a well known figure in history. He and his brother watched their father killed by Indians. They were ruthless. They hunted down the whole family and then some (maybe a very slight exaggeration) and killed them. They were outlaws for years. They finally got a pardon due to their service in the War.
Fast forward – My great, three or 4 times removed, hated Indians. I wonder if he would hate me because I am part Indian?

Huh? The latest murder in the Charleston area was a white 19-year-old woman who stabbed her boyfriend to death in a trendy apartment complex.
BTW, if you bothered to learn, there have been many studies showing that the murder rate in a community correlates to its poverty level, not to its racial makeup.

You know, this type of cop behavior is (I think I remember) just what the Pennsylvania sniper had in mind when he executed the Penn State trooper and tried to kill that other one and start a shooting campaign. Thug cops prey on the defenseless (read “poor” or “working class”) white as well as the black man.
They prey on all, they are not supposed to have a “quota” per se, but they do. If they are not writing tickets they will lose their job. The difference is poor white/black cannot afford defense that the rich can. So they go to jail or plead guilty to a crime they did not even commit, because it costs less.
I used to work in North Charleston. The police there act like highway robbers. They camp out near stop signs that are totally unnecessary and are ignored by most drivers. These stop signs are at the exits of strip malls where normally you just look both ways and turn onto the empty street rather than come to a full stop. One time, this policewomen was trying to explain why she was giving me a ticket and I swear she was embarrassed and flustered. She was probably new and wasn’t quite used to the B.S. yet.

Last I checked a black man who had been in prison for some 25+ years was released from death row based on DNA evidence. Let me see if I can find a link.

Fox & Friends made some interesting coverage choices yesterday on the shooting death of Walter Scott, including bringing on a legal expert who mused that planting evidence used to be “standard operating procedure.”
But the shooting was at least covered, twice during Fox & Friend’s A block. On Thursday, however, the morning show skipped the story entirely, save for three brief updates from news anchor Heather Nauert. The updates each lasted about twenty seconds, for a total of one minute of coverage out of three hours. …
Fox & Friends hardly had a packed show. The hosts twice covered a dispute over Rob Lowe’s DirecTV ads, both segments lasting several minutes apiece. They interviewed the teenager who was denied prize money by ESPN. They covered the photo of the Ecuadorian president standing next to a child wearing an “I’m With Stupid” t-shirt.
Scott didn’t have insurance papers or registration papers when he was stopped; was in the process of buying that Mercedes like he said or was something else going on there?
