RICH (WHITE) PEOPLE WANT TERMINAL BUILT CLOSER TO POOR (BLACK) PEOPLE …

|| By FITSNEWS ||  It’s been three years since we last weighed in on the big cruise ship battle in Charleston, S.C.  Our view then (and now)?

“We object to even one cent of taxpayer indebtedness going toward any sort of terminal – cruise, container or otherwise,” we wrote.

Seriously … are cruise lines broke?  If they want a $35 million facility, what’s stopping them from paying for it?

Anyway, the battle that’s been waging in the Holy City between government bureaucrats and liberal environmentalists has nothing to do with whether state taxpayers should assume the risk associated with such a costly project.  Because all sides apparently think cruise ship terminal construction is a core function of government.

No, this debate is ostensibly about dead whales, dumped refuse and soot from the ship’s smokestacks – a.k.a. environmental stuff.  At least those were the objections raised to the new terminal by environmentalists carrying the water of Charleston’s wealthy downtown elite (a.k.a. these people).

But guess what … this debate isn’t about those things, either …

How do we know?  Because Charleston’s wealthy downtown elite don’t care about the environment.  They only care about their environment.  In fact they have no problem with dead whales, dumped refuse and soot from the ship’s smokestacks – so long as those problems get passed up the Cooper River a ways.

You know … to these people.

This week – by a vote of 8-1 – a local planning commission approved a new “tourism management plan” for Charleston, S.C.  According to the plan, the S.C. State Ports Authority (SCSPA) would be required to find a new site for the terminal – one “farther from the (city’s) historic district.”

Will that decision stand?  Not according to our sources, who say the council was “co-opted” by the wealthy Downtowners.  According to these sources, the full city council will strike the section of the plan requiring the SCSPA to find a new site.

In fact the council previously approved the SCSPA site … four years ago.

Again, we don’t care where this terminal goes.  Taxpayers are on the hook for it one way or another – like literally everything else in that damn harbor.

Damned straight!!! I say we dock that bitch up at the Battery, and bus them in from huge parking garages near the Law School. Reality is, a local cruise ship terminal will only attract the aged old liners, which will be targeting the “three-night, four day Bahama and Cancun” trippers. In other words, drunks looking to hit Cozumel for a tequilla party, and a day-long trip home while hung over.

The last great earthquake for Charleston was 1910. We are overdue for another. Maybe the whole peninsula will disappear below the waves. The we can stop spending all that money on bridges. It will still be a great tourist site We can rename it Charlantis and sell tours to divers.

The funny part here is that for decades, Joe Riley has been looking for tourists to come in to Chas, dump off their money, and quickly leave afterwards.

They FINALLY get that opportunity, and now the people (yankees who sold their shacks in CT and NY for a mint and moved here) who live downtown don’t like it.

Well, it is convenient to be so close to the old slave market.

Charleston is filled with nothing but useless pricks. They are either only living off Daddies name and money, or they are Yankees that have moved down for God knows what reason. Either way anyone that lives there is a P.O.S.

Hell I wish I was living off of daddies money. Daddy was a poor.Thankfully, I have not continued that tradition.

As for everyone here being a POS..sure. That just means there is no reason for you to come here!

I don’t live in Cayce or Columbia, but even if I did it would be better than that crap hole Charleston

E Norma Scok April 9, 2015 at 1:31 pm

Honestly, I really don’t give a damn where you live, as long as you stay the hell out of my way when I’m on my way to go red fishing near the jetties, riding up the ICW, or when I just feel taking an early Friday afternoon to go hangout at the beach.
I hope you too can enjoy that kind of thing in whatever utopia you live.

norma is from there April 9, 2015 at 2:51 pm

You keep enjoying that pollution run town else cares. You still have horses shitting n the streets down town next to drunk ass locals or puking college kids? its a shit box plain and simple and you are just the polished turd from it. If I want to go to the beach I’ll keep going to my house in Derordieu. I rent it sometimes if you ever need a place worth a damn, and it comes with a golf cart too. $6000 a week during peek season. of course I keep it to myself most of the summer weeks anyway.

E Norma Scok April 9, 2015 at 4:50 pm

Figures…A Myrtle Beacher telling us how we should live. I’m sure you’re from there, right? Sure you are.
You sound like a pissed off yankee.

norma is from there April 9, 2015 at 7:55 pm

Figures another idiot that should know better. Debordieu is 30 miles away from Myrtle. I guess you are really from John’s Island outside of Charleston. Cute, we used to build rural missions down there for you low income folk while I was growing up here in SC. I am starting to think you couldn’t even afford 1 day not even a night at my place. what a shame. Must be on government assistance too huh?

E Norma Scok April 10, 2015 at 10:46 am

Another damn yankee.

Found any good deli’s yet? Still uncomfortable with teh summer heat? How about those bugs?

Moron.

How stupid are you welfare boy? I have told you many times I am born and raised in South Carolina, but I guess you just aren’t smart enough to understand that. Let me guess you rode to school on a short bus didn’t you? How was that house my church and I built you on John’s Island? Must be nice to have indoor plumbing now. I see you are signing your posts now too.

Out here in the west, San Francisco cleaned up several underutilized water front piers for the cruise ships … Now they bring in huge tourist dollar$ and more than a few jobs (and taxes).

“… Taxpayers are on the hook for it one way or another – like literally everything else in that damn harbor. …”

It does not need to be yet another Gruberment Central Planning Taxsucker Screw-up. Tell your congresspersons that they had better do this with private enterprise getting all of the bids, construction and operations. Cheap paper hanger, bond peddlers need not apply unless you, the voters, let them.

Or you could just let g’ment do it all and suffer under inflated costs, featherbedding, cronyism, corruption, theft and higher taxes that will come along with it.

Anyone who has been in Charleston knows well that Charleston has become an over run rat hole. There are so many tourist, and creepy people crawling all over the streets, that it’s disgusting. Joe Riley has turned the town into “RILEYVILLE.” He’s torn down significant and historical buildings to put up condos right in the middle of old prized downtown park views. Allowed, outrageous construction all thru the historical city. And, generally created a gigantic mess.

You can’t even find a place to park in a town that once had open parking on every street corner. With, walkup access to quaint store fronts, with lots of local businesses doing well. Now, Charleston looks like a giant shopping mall, with false front tourist traps.

Joe Riley, in his attempt to save Charleston after the Ship Yard and Naval Base closings, has actually permanently destroyed it. Now, Charleston is more like Myrtle Beach than Savannah. It’s all so sad for SC Residents who have had to witness the destruction of one of our most prized places. One that belonged to every SC Citizen and not just Joe Riley.
