MESSY DIVORCE CASE FUELS MAGISTRATE BATTLE

|| By FITSNEWS || We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: South Carolina lawmakers have absolutely no business electing (or appointing) judges. They simply cannot do it without the process devolving into rampant corruption and cronyism.

Seriously, we’d get better judges by having a blindfolded, special needs orangutan throw darts at a dartboard … backward.

In fact we’re getting tired of exposing the corruption (again and again) only to watch nothing happen … at least not until the next chapter of the goat rodeo.

Which, by the way, is the point of this post.  No, no … not to reiterate our call for judicial reform (clearly no one cares about that), but to bring you the latest chapter of the goat rodeo.

According to our sources, Upstate “Tea Party” consultant Kerry Wood (more on him here) is working overtime – and with some success – to scuttle the reappointment of Spartanburg, S.C. magistrate Tina McMillan.

FITS has spoken with several S.C. Senators who say Wood has personally lobbied them, urging them to vote against McMillan’s upcoming nomination (State Senators appoint magistrates in their districts, subject to gubernatorial approval).

And McMillan’s reappointment is scheduled to be taken up next week …

Why does Wood want McMillan defeated?  Well, it turns out she used to be married to one of his former clients, Jim McMillan – and the divorce case involving the two “Republicans” was (is) exceedingly messy.

How messy?  We wish we could tell you but the case is sealed.  That’s right.  Tina McMillan is represented by S.C. Rep. Doug Brannon – who as FITS readers will recall has a knack for improperly sealing high-profile cases.

Why did he seal this one?  Because according to our sources there are reportedly big dollars – and big bombshells – involved.  The only question is: Who blows up in the event the documents become public?

Sources on both sides of the drama are pointing fingers … claiming the other side is vulnerable to the impending detonation.  Allegations of documented infidelity abound.  There are even reports of illicit pictures …

Rrrrrawr …

What does any of this have to do with the qualifications of McMillan to serve as a magistrate?  Good question …

As far as we’re concerned the whole thing is yet another example of “transparency inaction” – and legislative corruption.  But hey, let’s continue letting these goat rodeo clowns elect and appoint the judges who preside over our court system.

What could possibly go wrong!
