|| By FITSNEWS || This website has written on several occasions of the “Yucca Conspiracy,” a corrupt – and illegal – bargain between U.S. president Barack Obama and former Democratic leader Harry Reid.
Need some background? The federal government has collected more than $10 billion – including more than $1.2 billion taken from Palmetto state residents – to build a nuclear waste repository in Yucca Mountain, Nevada. The facility was supposed to open in 2017 (and serve as a final destination for nuclear waste from the Savannah River Site), but Reid and Obama have conspired for years to keep it shuttered – even as they collected hundreds of millions of dollars a year from utilities and their rate-payers.
“Obama’s efforts to kill the project are viewed as a sop to (Reid), who hails from Nevada and has bragged about killing the project in the past,” we wrote two years ago after a U.S. district court ruled against the administration.
This week The Wall Street Journal blasted the deal – calling it “a crude political bargain in which Reid agreed to do the President’s dirty work on Capitol Hill if Obama blocked the nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain in Nevada.”
The Journal article went on to accuse Reid of invoking the “nuclear option” (no double entendre intended) on judicial appointments in the U.S. Senate as payback for the court defying him on Yucca Mountain.
“He was looking for revenge,” the Journal article stated.
But not just revenge – he was also looking to stack the court which defied him with liberal judges.

Additionally, Reid’s “Yucca Conspiracy” with Obama is also cited by the Journal as the reason he decided to “block nearly all amendments in the Senate after Republicans won the House in 2010, shielding Mr. Obama from having to veto bills.”

These are serious allegations, people. Made by a serious newspaper. Involving the sanctity of our institutions as well as billions of tax dollars (a disproportionate share of which came from dirt poor South Carolina). So … where is the Palmetto State’s congressional delegation on this issue? Where are their demands for a criminal investigation?
We know Washington breeds corruption. And that our ADD nation has scandal fatigue. And we know that Obama will never be impeached (because that would be “racist”).
But these allegations, if true, constitute the very definition of “high crimes.” They represent deliberate attempts to subvert the judicial and legislative processes: And Obama and Reid need to be held accountable for them.
South Carolina’s leaders at the federal and state level need to unite in condemnation of the “Yucca Conspiracy,” and insist that those responsible for its perpetuation be brought to justice – including Barack Obama and Harry Reid.

Gruberized government stupidity at its worst … considering that the object of derision is perfectly good fuel for nuke power plants.
The Chinese have offered to buy all of that “spent” fuel … and would recycle it and use it to power their own significantly growing nuke power plants.
Jimmy Carter ruined the nuke industry back in the 70’s. He stopped the fission reactor at Barnwell which , if memory serves me correctly used the “spent fuel ” from the fusion reactors and gave off the fuel needed for the std. reactor. I’m not really up to speed on this but it was as close to a perpetual motion machine as was possible. One gave off the fuel for the other one. It only made sense to me then but naturally a Dim had to kill it, so it must have been a good idea.
FYI: As the Chinese well know, the burning of coal for electricity releases many times more C.R.A.P. than do all nuke plants in the world combined. (Carbon, Radiation And Particulates.)

A Democrat who actually knew that nuclear energy was safe – he’d worked on nuke boats and fixed facilities while in the Navy. He’d actually assisted in cleaning up a problem at the Chalk River Research Facility while he was in uniform.
Having a little trouble seeing Three Mile Island from here. Must be the residue from that Japanese meltdown in the atmosphere. And, my kids didn’t suffer from be restricted from playing outside after Chernobyl. Yes, I know, per kWh it is safe. Except when it’s not, then it ruins your day. So is flying, except when your pilot decides to, well, take a dive. Then the only safety statistic that is important is 100%. Had a buddy who worked (and slept) next to the nukes on the big subs. He had received over 100% of his lifetime exposure by the time he was in his late 20s. Had to move him out of nukes. So, yeah, I guess its safe, so to speak. Let’s ask him about his health in another decade or so.

Lot’s of bad things happened under his watch, but I’d wager to say he wasn’t responsible for most of them and really got a bad rap/blame for a poor economy.
The installation of Volker and the raising of rates, which brought on short term pain, eventually paved the why for the boom under Reagan and allowed Reagan to grow gov’t while the economy ran wild.
In a weird way, I can make a good case that Carter was easily the most conservative President post WW2.
Carter’s most glaring fault was being too honest with the American people, from a political perspective. No one likes being told to turn down a thermostat(being conservative with oil) and wear sweaters.

… mostly it was the tax cuts that did it. Although Volker tried mightily to stem the inflationary tide with excessively, though temporary, high bank interest rates.
Balancing the budget? What a fairy tale! Are we talking about the same budget here? G’ment inflation ran up to more than 20%, caused by Carter and cronies … and his giant bunny.
In a last ditch effort to unravel His economic screw-ups, He had to bring in T. Secretary Miller and Fed. Chair Volker to finally being the recovery (circa 1979).
I know that reading history is at times inconvenient, but yes, Carter has come closest to balancing the budget than any other President since the 71′ disconnect.

The facts are that “zero-based budgeting” was too complicated for the average DC taxsucking budgeteer, so most of them lied, claiming they met their budget goals … Not!
If you are still relying on those broken budget promises made during the Carter administration, then yes, that pack of lies did make the budget appear to be balanced.

I tried to find the clip with no luck but Saturday Night Live did a hilarious skit on Carter and “The Pepsi Syndrome” where Carter goes to “two mile island” to help desk with the nuclear emergency there. The skit ends with this exchange:

Correct. So, Carter did not make the decision to stop reprocessing lightly, or in any state of ignorance. He had good reasons for doing so. He was not “anti-nuke” by any stretch. This was all about non-proliferation.
If I recall correctly, he shut the fuel recycling plant (before it started) to prevent all the weapons-useful plutonium created in the used fuel from becoming available. Nothing regarding fusion ever existed.

Correct, and all publications owned by those entities are now just part of the Murdoch, rumor mill. They have all lost any credibility they had. The WSJ, which use to be the paper of record for Wall Street is now just another rag in which Murdoch spew his drivel and political views (same thing?). You may as well read Drudge or Limbaugh.

Only in a corrupt, bureaucratic and litigious society like ours, would anyone think it was a good idea to store dangerous spent nuclear fuel on site next to a nuclear reactors.
The spent fuel is more vulnerable to a natural catastrophe or terrorist attack than the reactors themselves. There proximity to each other only increases the danger exponentially.

Great! But that doesn’t explain why it should be stored on a nuclear reactor site. There is only one reason I can find. Politics.
It shouldn’t be, but the current system is a safe as anything else for the time being (and for all of our lifetimes and of those of anyone we know). It’s all politics, truthfully we should be burning all that “waste” in fast neutron reactors (aka breeder reactors) and make more fuel and power out of it.
