To hear the warmongers in Washington, D.C. tell it (and they’ve told it convincingly), America’s multiple, ongoing engagements in the Middle East have done nothing but raise up a new enemy. A stronger enemy. A more ferocious and bloodthirsty enemy.
So naturally, our leaders are going to double down … spending more tax dollars we don’t have on further engagements.
Does that make sense?
No … but people don’t think straight when they’re afraid.
Last week, America’s abandonment of a small military outpost in Yemen marked yet another demarcation line in the “War on Terror II” – which is about to ramp up in a big way if “Republican” lawmakers get their way.
Yemen is significant. Going back to the pre-9/11 days, it’s the site of the infamous 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed seventeen American sailors.
Which is probably why the U.S. State Department made clear last week the evacuation – due to an onrush of hostile troops – was only “temporary.”
Hmmmm …
In other words like Douglas MacArthur – or Arnold Schwarzenegger – “we’ll be back.”
But should we? We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: “You can’t get killed where you ain’t.”
Unfortunately America seems unable to learn that lesson … which is why thousands of Americans were slaughtered on September 11.
Do we really want to escalate again?
Talk is cheap. And war is expensive. And both are … pointless.
America’s policy should be simple: A blanket Middle Eastern withdrawal with a very clear, very public, very unambiguous warning: Stay the f*ck away from our shores … or else.
What do we mean by “or else?”
Back in the 1950s, the United States developed the B41 – a nuclear device with a 25-megaton yield. To put that explosive force in human terms, we’re talking about a fireball four miles in diameter, with a blast leveling everything within an eight-mile radius of its detonation and producing third degree burns within a radius of 32 miles.

Quoting MacArthur gets me all frosty eyed and nostalgic for the Battle of Anacostia where his heroics will forever be remember and appreciated soldiers everywhere.

The Battle of Anacostia Flats was simply an American officer fulfilling his duty.
Bonus Protesters (WWI veterans who would receive a financial payment in 1945) began to assemble and protest for immediate payments of the bonus outside of Washington DC in 1932. Depression era DC had no money to pay the bonuses.
The protesters were ordered to leave federal property by competent authority. Federal police tried to remove them and several protesters were shot and killed in their failed attempt. MacArthur, who was Chief of the Army Staff at the time, was ordered to remove the protesters. MacArthur desiring to prevent additional bloodshed and excessive use of force personally controlled the actions. One part of his plan was to demonstrate overwhelming force to discourage further resistance – he personally showed up with cavalry, infantry and tanks. The protesters were dispersed with no loss of life during the actions (one pregnant woman miscarried later)
Not a proud moment but hardly “Kent State”.

No revisionism – MacA did exceed his orders but he was always a “finish the job” type guy.
MacA and Eisenhower were never “friends” – Eisenhower hated him because of his vanity and “favoritism”. MacA thought Ike was “marginally competent”

lol…that’s a good point… but I still can’t get my head around MacArthur ordering fixed bayonets and charging an encampment filled with soldiers, and their wives & children, many of whom are destitute and potentially getting screwed out of their bonus. (no one knew what the vote would be at the time)
Sure is a funny thing though, veterans demonstrate against an unfilled promise or some other slight and are promptly labeled “reds”,commies” as they were then ( plus “hippies”/’reds” etc. later on during the Vietnam protest period)

I agree sort of but in this case they (The Bonus Marchers) had agreed to the 1945 payment date and the country was flat broke (remember this was 1932). They were eventually paid in 1936.

Yep, ‘ol MacArthur stepped on it more than once but also involved with the Bonus Army (in one way or another) was Patton & Eisenhour.
Patton publically turned his back on a veteran (who had saved his life in WWI) who asked him to see their point of view. Eisenhour advised MacArthur not to personally be in charge of routing the Bonus Army and is actually quoted as calling MacArthur a dumb SOB for doing so (but later on Ike did not slam him during his official report)
Mac always did what he was paid to do… until he criticized the Prez.

You will not be able to go “over there” forever – US special forces are spread thin, US regular army has not and can not win an asymmetric conflict and cyber defense and offense is seriously compromised.
