RAVING LIBERTARIANS NEED TO TAKE A CHILL …

IMG_3667|| By TAYLOR BROWN ||  My friends received an onslaught of “Taylor Rantings” this weekend.  The topic?  People (mostly libertarian people like the founding editor of this website) who hate police/ Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents – and who proceed to whine like children anytime they go through airport screening.

Not content with deliberately antagonizing these officers and making their lives/ jobs harder – the next step is belittling and haranguing them, and then acting shocked when their bad attitudes are reciprocated.

Oh my God!  Really?!  You’re surprised that someone is less than cordial to you after you acted like a complete dick to them?

Name one person who is going to be super happy to have their job – which wasn’t exactly pleasant to begin with – made more difficult?  Name one person who wants to have their morals, ethics or ability to perform their duty questioned or undermined?

Good luck …

Look, these people are just doing their job – an important one at that – and they get sh*t on all day for doing it.  They don’t want to be searching you any more than you want to be searched – but that’s the world we live in, and it’s either that or get in line for the body scanner.

Libertarians love to profess this “live and let live mentality.”  Well they should carry it over to this instance.  Show some respect – if not for their profession or the uniform – for the people themselves.  I guarantee if you had to deal with people bitching at you all day on the job, you’d act far worse than you make these agents/ officers out to be.

Right?

Like this guy …

My parents used to tell me “if you want to be treated like an adult, you need to act like one.”  I would tell TSA haters the same thing now: If you want to be treated decently and shown respect – then show some basic respect.  Name one thing you accomplish by being nasty to these people?  Do you think you’re “teaching them a lesson,” or “proving a point,” or “fighting the man/ big government?”  No.  You aren’t.  You’re being a toddler.  And your antics do nothing other than to make your own life harder.

I’ve been treated “unfairly” before by TSA, but I’ve also been cut some slack because I treat these working men and women with respect.  JK Rowling once wrote, “if you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors – not his equals.”

How you treat these people that are supposedly “beneath you” shows your true character.  In fact real character is recognizing no one is “beneath you.” And behaving accordingly.

So grow up.  Learn some respect.  Show others kindness and graciousness.

This basic idea should have been taught to you back in preschool, but since it clearly wasn’t, I hope this serves as a “Golden Rule For Beginners” or “Manners 101” class.

Taylor Brown is a 20-something Wofford College graduate who somehow got sucked into politics at an early age.  She is easily won over with Rush’s fast food, wine, and spirited political arguments.

“They don’t want to be searching you any more than you want to be searched”

If only that were true. They obviously want the TSA money more than the don’t want to search people.

“Look, these people are just doing their job – an important one at that – and they get sh*t on all day for doing it.”

Nazi camp guards were just doing their jobs too.

They deserved respect as well. Everyone should have understood that they were just doing their job.

“So grow up.”

I think most adults can tell the difference between a guard making sure someone is not sneaking weapons or explosives onto a plane and a guard making sure a Jew doesn’t escape before being herded into a gas chamber. The difference is not very subtle.

I'm a big boy! March 18, 2015 at 9:27 am

Many Nazi camp guards didn’t even herd Jews into gas chambers. So to make the analogy more relevant, let’s just contain ourselves to those Nazi guards.

In fact, I’ll bet many of them never laid a hand on the Jews they were making sure didn’t escape.

By Taylor’s metric/logic, they are deserving of respect.

“making sure someone is not sneaking weapons or explosives onto a plane”

Yes, I eagerly await your link showing just *1* time that such a thing has occurred after 9/11.

Just ONE link will suffice. Show us how the TSA has caught someone before getting on a plane to do the very thing you claim they are doing.

You’re not fooling anyone champ. Not only have drugged up underwear and shoe bombers slipped through, you dopes get routinely get had by activist citizens sailing through with sidearms.

It’s security theater, at taxpayer expense-nothing more.

Those instances all happened on international flights coming INTO the USA. We have no control over what Amsterdam and Paris do with their security.

“Not only have drugged up underwear and shoe bombers slipped through” Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab originated in Ghana and changed planes in Amsterdam. No TSA presence there, champ. Richard Reid got on his flight at Charles DeGaulle Airport. The one in France. “you dopes get routinely get (sic) had by activist citizens sailing through with sidearms.” I’d love to see where you get that data, because it’s 100% wrong. Batting a thousand there, champ.

Don’t you read the newspapers? Or don’t you have a tv that broadcast the news? Last year was the record confiscation of firearms from carry on bags, each one of those passengers are now slapped with felony charges.

2008 a Jamaica man had a bomb in orlando. Only remember it because my family was getting on that plane. Never saw a thing on the news. I also know on Columbus oh a man was going to try a hijacking but was shot by police this year. I’ve seen tsa get guns, large knives one tsa guy told me someone had a chain saw In a bag. He even had pictures of it. I travel a ton. I have never had any issues with a tsa agent.

Let me rewind for a moment:

Ostensibly “sneaking weapons or explosives onto a plane” to commit a terrorist attack.

I thought the implicit suggestion was obvious, but judging by your response and the responses below, obviously not.

Regardless, there hasn’t been one plot involving the above that has been caught and/or stopped by the TSA.

TestJeff Pierce March 23, 2015 at 6:44 pm

Actually, 9-11 did NOT have non-metallic bombs or unpermitted weapons. Quite simply, airlines did not have locked, reinforced cockpit doors and they told pilots to cooperate with hijackers.

So, include 9-11 in the question.

Every other reply to this question NEGLECTS TO MENTION that any items found could be found by 2002 security which uses metal detectors.

And, knives are not a threat to bring down a plane. Someone with a ballpoint pen could stick it in your eye, and kill you if they were lucky.

ilovetsa March 25, 2015 at 11:35 pm

How about we have day with no security at all!! Would that make u feel better?? Everyone just bring whatever they want on to the plane!!! Yay!!! Would u still fly?? Would u take your children or family…. How about your mom?? Or your wife??

TestJeff Pierce March 26, 2015 at 9:55 pm

I already stated it. Adopt 2002 security which no one complained about…I recall several hundred million people flew that year. We call it precheck now (except people can still be pulled aside for GeTSApo molestation) and we randomly let some passengers through anyway without a PreCheck background review.

Metal detectors only, shoes on, reasonable liquids…for EVERY US Citizen.

The only statistically relevant metric is that all of the true attempts (2 of them, and 1 was aided by US intelligence who let the shoebomber get a visa after the State Dept turned him down…) were by non-US citizens.

DWMIrish March 24, 2015 at 11:32 pm

How about the hundreds of guns we find? Yes loaded. If you are a responsible gun owner you should have known it was in there. If not do you want this jack wagon on the plane with a loaded gun? How about the thousands of knives? The flying public hasn’t a clue what we see… If you don’t like the rules, take the train! This is a different world we live in today. If people would just follow the rules and stop thinking they don’t apply to them you wouldn’t need a pat down. Wake up America!

Dissatisfied with the results he got from his family doctor, the balding man sought out alternative treatment for his hair loss. A friend referred him to a scientist who had been testing a chemical that showed great promise. Within a week after taking the recommended dosage, hair began to grow uncontrollably all over his body. The suddenly hirsute fellow returned to see the scientist.

“What the hell did you give me?” he demanded.

“It was DNA from a woolly mammoth.”

None. Have you ever gone through security at any major airport? Those speaking Spanish – say Newark, Miami, Chicago, Philly, San Diego, LA, etc – have to provide proof of citizenship or residency. Be glad they are there, they are helpful to tourists that don’t speak Engish and keep the line moving.

Rocky March 18, 2015 at 9:52 am

The alternative, having your plane flown into a building by terrorists, seems to be more horrific than a body pat down. And you know what, if you don’t want the TSA guy or gal grabbing your parts, the easy solution is to take the change out of your pockets. As someone who travels frequently for work, it amazes me how utterly clueless people become. There’s a person telling you take everything out of your pockets, remove your belt, blah, blah, blah – and they guy who goes through with his big cowboy belt buckle on wonders why he gets stopped. There’s a scene in the movie Up in the Air where Clooney points out – always get in line with Japanese, because “God love ’em” they wear slip on shoes. I remember being behind one guy in Atlanta, going on vacation with his wife. OK, fine. Good on ya’. But this guy onloads his cargo shorts he has two cell phones, iPod, keys, money clip, a mountain of change, lighter, small camara, his iPhone cube, the charger cord, wallet, sunglasses, reading glasses. Gets all that done, fails the test because he keeps on his watch. Duh!!! They have these things at Target called backpacks. Buy one, get in line, take all that crap out of your pants, put in the backpack, and go through line. Geesh!! It’s not rocket science. If it’s summer and I’m traveling for work, I wear shorts, t-shirt, flip flops, have everything in my backpack once I clear the ID check, put it all through in the backpack, and breeze through. Oh, and for God sake, check your dang luggage.

shifty henry March 18, 2015 at 10:10 am

The one I’ll never forget — the underwear bomber….
“Look at it this way – you get a free airplane ride with a movie and snacks. After that all you have to do to blow up 350 infidels is to (now pay attention here) is to stick this hypodermic needle into your underwear. Yes, you will also blow off your own balls, but keep in mind that it will only hurt for less than a second!”

Reply
Rocky March 18, 2015 at 10:15 am

I see ’em all. It is just mind numbing. Someone tells you 10 times to make sure you have everything out of your pockets, and people still leave change, lighters, money clips. I mean, listen for the love of God. Or this one – no liquids – so they think stuffing a bottle of water in their backpack makes it disappear. Now I have to admit I did that once by accident – traveling to South America with the kids, youngest was two. Female soldier in Bogata was insisting I had liquids, I kept saying no. Then realized the danged sippy cup had milk in it. So I let her open it. Had been in there since Miami. Bet the smelled good.

The answer should really be that the GeTSApo should not be searching your body inch-by-inch in the first place.

It amazes me that people think the TSA is protecting us with their unconstitutional scanners and criminal touching patdowns, when the 2002 security worked just fine (we call it PreCheck now). AND – the risk of getting killed while DRIVING TO THE AIRPORT is much higher than risk of geting killed by a passenger (hasn’t happened in over 52 years on US Domestic Flights) on a plane with working non-metallic bombs.

neoplasm11 March 25, 2015 at 1:42 am

This shows how ignorant you are, first of all, the 4th Amendment “Administrative searches” are covered by the 4th Amendment. As soon as you purchase your ticket, walk into the TSA area, you agree to be searched, possibly! So you don’t want to be touched, search, either go rent a car, own your own plane or take a mother fricken bus! And quit being a whiny person! Oh and the underwear bomber, yeah not the only attempt, several attempts have been averted because of the Department of Homeland Security, oh and other terrorist plots to take several planes to repeat 9/11. So no your shite before you open your trapper!

Reply
TestJeff Pierce March 25, 2015 at 12:52 pm

I am hardly ignorant. Administrative searches are considered under the constraints of the 4th amendment, yes. Also, the ticket contract includes agreeing to TSA security procedures, yes.

But, that doesn’t mean agreeing to specific processes which might violate the 4th amendment or other constitutional rights.

If they gutted your stomach with a knife, for example, to search for contraband…then that might fail a constitutional challenge. And, the GeTSApo has argued in EPIC vs DHS that they can examine your anal cavity if they wanted to.

The physical examination of genitals as a primary screening is something that should be eliminated or ruled unconstitutional. Anyone in a wheelchair needs to have their genital areas physically touched through clothing as part of standard GeTSApo procedure. This is why Osama Bin Laden won the war. Unless, of course you think that is an American value and agree with it.

The underwear bomber was DENIED a visa by the State Department, according to congressional testimony, But an intelligence agency asked them to give him a visa anyway. Regardless, he failed miserably despite 5 years to test and refine such a device.

And, any other real plots found by the DHS (they only have 1 other, which is the Egyptian double-agent who asked AQAP to make another bomb…it wasn’t on their agenda) did not require unconstitutional inch-by-inch searches or criminal touching pat downs.

History shows that TSA workers commit criminal acts and smuggle items into secured areas all the time. It could easily be a standard metallic-based bomb to give to someone. So, US citizens should be subject to 2002 security screening procedures and we should stop living in fear and letting Osama Bin Laden’s victory continue.

About that time her NCOIC grabbed her by the stacking swivel and schooled her on the proper procedure to match shot record to Soldier – apparently I wasn’t the first “customer” she’d screwed up today.

So here we are on active duty getting in a few more retirement points and O-6 pay before we retire (can’t blame you for that) and when we ain’t on active duty we are teaching at University of South Carolina (from what I’ve read on you dispatches)
Both of which are no-shit government paid gigs
Kinda contridictory/hypocritical ain’t it – slamming TSA workers because they aren’t working in the private sector while said O-6 is suckling off not 1 but 2 government teats and with maximum suction at that!!!!!
But it’s not like the first time I’ve seen heard of that. I knew many reservists/guardsmen/women slamming the federal government but were the first ones to bitch if their perdiem checks were slow in arriving let alone monthly drill pay, etc.

Besides that IF you are retireing in 3 months (you posted you are retiring this June) why the hell are you getting innoculated for smallpox if you ain’t deploying somewhere?
Unless you just want free shots???

The Colonel March 18, 2015 at 1:54 pm

I’m really double dipping today – my job authorizes paid military leave!
I slam anyone who routinely provide a level of service that is unacceptable – the TSA isn’t far from that level generally.
I seldom bitch if my drill pay is late – in fact it all gets direct deposited into my Thrift Savings Account and I don’t pay to much attention to it.
However, when I review the commander’s pay report and find a Soldier who hasn’t been paid or when I’m out “leading by wandering around” and run across a Soldier who says “Hey sir, I haven’t been paid for…” I generally become a complete asshole with my full time staff until we have the pay problem figured out.
Got my orders yesterday (1 June – FIIGMO!) and as for the why I was getting shots – simple, my Sergeant Major said “Sir, stand right here, you’re getting a Meningitis and an MMR shot”.
I asked “Why SarMajor?” She (yes, she) said, in a “I will be obeyed voice”” “Because I said so – it helps our unit readiness numbers now stand right there”
So I did.

There are (granted a minority) of us who do everything we can to prevent fraud waste and abuse but I’d have to agree, we (the military) are a bureaucrats wet dream.

Several weeks ago I traveled to multiple destinations in preparation for an exercise I’m running in May. The plane tickets alone were over three grand. I filed my travel voucher yesterday and had it rejected over a illegible twelve dollar parking fee receipt . The regulations don’t even require me too submit receipts for amounts under seventy-five dollars but the GS-6 minion who reviews them rejected it based on “…her screening guidance. ..” that she had been unable to produce so far.

Rocky March 18, 2015 at 3:52 pm

I would generally support them from the standpoint of safety. However, I have to admit, the other week leaving Newark Internation – there was one guy – his job was to push a touch screen that displayed a directional arrow – i.e. you go this way, next person goes the other way. And of course one line was long and not moving and the other hardly had anyone. Now that is a dumb job. Common sense would say, if one line is long and the other short, you queue new people to the short line, until they equal out. Nope, just touch the screen, touch it again, touch it again. (While wearing rubber gloves)

Please allow me to explain from a TSA officer’s POV:
A customer is a person or organization that buys goods or services from a store or business. Please do not walk into the airport under the assumption that you are MY customer. You have not paid me for a good nor have you paid me for a service. I am a ” necessary evil” so to speak. Do not expect ” customer service” when you are in fact NOT a customer. You want customer service? Talk to the airline. As far as lack of initiative and poor work ethic, you would just have to be in the know. But just in case you didn’t know, it’s pretty demoralizing to basically be an adult day care employee.

Quite a few of that 40% have both in their backgrounds. Another 15% are retirees from other fields of employment. I’m already at 55% without even trying.

As a veteran, let me assure that many veterans struggle to get and keep real jobs. I’m not even referring to those with issues related to combat. The same is true of policemen and”retirees”. While those stats sound great they don’t really say anything.

Notice the lack of comments from GT on this one? Guess he never travels by plane to any location.

He is probably aware of the restrictions by various airlines prohibiting certain dog breeds from flying. These restrictions are posted on their websites and info can be obtained from veterinarians. Curiously, not prohibited are — Jack Russell Terrorists.

Ron Paul is right. If the TSA was eliminated, three year old girls would never cry again and you wouldn’t have your Nutella taken from you.

The only reason what your saying is controversial is that a lot of people feel physically violated and a lot of other people believe TSA searches are completely ineffective. The TSA is very poorly paid and mostly spend there days taking away people’s toiletry items. It’s a little like building a new fence after the horses have escaped. The next attack won’t be a repeat of the last one, so why put massive inconveniences on people to prevent it? The idea that our lawmakers might just get together and create a safe, monitored, and unintrusive transportation network is absurd. So, people take it out on the TSA agents.

Little do you know is the threat for bombs on airplanes are greater then you know. Also they dont advertise what TSA catches because it would stop the public from flying.

And they wear blue shirts and perform criminal touching of private parts, a crime in all 50 states….

A TSA employee sexually assaulted me at BWI airport, and I have been dealing with the serious psychological fallout ever since. This violent thug in a blue shirt inserted a metal detector into my body after she shoved it up my skirt between my legs. I had to go to the bathroom to remove my underwear from where she lodged it inside of me. After being violently attacked by the TSA, I’ll be damned if I’m going to be polite to a bunch of subhuman jackals as they violate my body, my belongings, and my rights. What kind of person takes a job that requires them to sexually fondle children? Every one of these vile molesters has agreed to take cash to touch the private parts of children and innocent adults through their clothes. Blue-shirt thugs deserve jail time for what they’ve done.

And if you think it’s a gotcha to use my first name in association with my story of rape at the hands of TSA predators, you’re dead wrong. I’ve spoken about how these animals attacked me and many others women quite boldly. You can’t intimidate me into silence. Find a weaker victim, joe.

Just a few things to keep in mind…

A) If you hate the organization and want it changed…try fighting and bitching at those at the top with the power to make the changes. Those TSOs on the floor checking your bag or patting you down do not create policy they follow it. You can’t change a damn thing by treating them poorly it just makes you feel better to be mean to someone you don’t know and know you can get away with that behavior because it’s socially acceptable to hate the TSA. This also makes you a bully.

B) Remember that while there are indeed “bad” officers that treat the passengers like shit because they have no customer service skills and are themselves bullies…not all the officers fall into that category. There are many officers that treat passengers with respect and try to help them get through the process as smoothly and easily as possible…why treat them like assholes? Is the goal to turn them into “bad” officers as well by teaching them that kindness, courtesy and respect will not change how they are treated by the passengers? Because this is exactly what you are doing in some cases. If thou went to work everyday and were super customer service man toward your guests and were met with the kind of open hostility and disrespect you treat the TSOs with…would you continue to be super customer service man? Or so uld it wear on you and break you down and make you despair and hate your work? And eventually begin to hate “passengers”

Are you really this stupid? If you believe that the TSA is doing a single thing to protect us, then you are that dumb.

Just for the sake of accuracy:

The men and women on those checkpoints are NOT “agents.”

They are officers, designated by Congress as “Transportation Security OFFICERS.”

All you folks against TSA. All I have to say is God Bless you, I’m praying for you and your family. I am proud to be a part of TSA ever since they started in Hawaii. I work with hardworking, caring and dedicated officers. My only wish for those officers is that they turn away from negative comments and look towards God who is their ultimate defender????????????????????????????

Whether or not you agree with what the TSA does isn’t the point. You aren’t going to change it no matter how much you bitch and moan. I think the crux of the story was just don’t be an asshole. If you act up and cause a scene at the airport, you aren’t accomplishing anything. No one is going to come pat you on the back and say “good job sir way to take on the government!” You are just the douche in the story everyone will tell their friends about. Congrats…
