BOEING FIGHT A BIG BOOST TO WALKER’S PRESIDENTIAL CHANCES
|| By FITSNEWS || Wisconsin governor Scott Walker scored a big win in early-voting South Carolina this week …
No, it wasn’t a major endorsement … or a smart staffing move … or another solid early polling performance in the Palmetto State.
Walker – whose national profile was built by battling Big Labor – won thanks to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers’ petition to unionize Boeing’s North Charleston, S.C. plant. All of a sudden South Carolina – which boasts one of the nation’s lowest unionization rates – finds itself in the thick of a major organized labor battle just as the 2016 presidential primary campaign is heating up.
And Walker finds himself positioned to ride a wave of anti-union sentiment among “Republican” voters …
Not only that, the battle provides a key “link-up” opportunity between Walker and S.C. governor Nikki Haley – who will be leading the battle against Big Labor as it makes this big push in her backyard.
In the lead-up to the 2012 presidential primary, Haley’s endorsement was downright toxic (something former GOP nominee Mitt Romney found out the hard way). This year, though, Haley has rehabilitated herself among South Carolina’s GOP voters – meaning her endorsement in advance of the 2016 primary should be a help, not a hindrance, to whichever candidate gets it.
Walker was already one of the favorites to receive Haley’s backing … but the emergence of a high-profile anti-union fight in South Carolina makes that possibility a near-probability, which would further accrue to the Wisconsin governor’s benefit.
“It’s pure positioning,” one veteran party activist explained to FITS. “Walker is now well-positioned with Haley and with GOP voters – on an issue he owns and an issue which will add to her endorsement’s value.”
Obviously all of this political calculus is contingent on Walker avoiding the “flameout factor” – which dogged so many 2012 aspirants during the spring and summer leading up to the last “First in the South” battle. It’s also contingent on Haley avoiding any major scandals of her own.
But as it stands now Boeing’s battle against Big Labor in South Carolina is a clear win for Scott Walker …

Projecting out – would look like next Jan / Feb goes – Iowa for Walker, Rubio second, Paul third, Bush fourth. Next NH, Bush first, Paul second, Rubio third, Walker fourth. Then to SC – Walker wins, Paul second, Bush third, Rubio fourth. Then to Florida – Bush wins, Rubio second, Paul third, Walker last. Then onward – ending in late May early June with Bush, battered, bruised and beat-up, finally winning.

Incredible jobs gain for South Carolina
Preliminary data for South Carolina January employment has been released. South Carolina has had the highest monthly job gain ever. 10,841 jobs were gained. This blows the doors off the previous record set in Out 206 of 6722.

No, 10000 people joined the labor force, 2500 jobs were added and 3100 of those were in leisure and hospitality (read: low wage)
You just can’t stand good news. Trade, transportation and Utilities gained 2800 jobs in January. Year over year non farm jobs grew by 2.7% while leisure and hospitality grew by less (2.5%). The second line of link shows a 10,800 jobs increase in January. All job categories have year over year gains.
