LOUISIANA GOVERNOR SLAMS “CONSERVATIVE CASE” FOR FEDERAL OVERREACH
|| By FITSNEWS || Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal is bashing former Florida governor Jeb Bush – and other “conservative” supporters of Common Core – for trying to fool early-state voters into believing the federal curriculum is good for students.
Bush’s allies are running newspaper, radio and television ads in early-voting Iowa in an effort to build support for the controversial curriculum.
What is Common Core?
“Common Core is the latest attempt to bribe states, with money taken from the American people, into adopting a curriculum developed by federal bureaucrats,” former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul recently wrote. “The devil with Common Core lies not in its details but in its underlying principle. That principle is that that DC-based central planners can develop a curriculum suitable for every student. The idea that government ‘experts’ can centrally plan a nation’s educational system is just as flawed as the idea that government can centrally plan the economy.”
Absolutely …
Jindal – who has built a reputation battling the government on behalf of expanded parental choice – sounded a similarly defiant tone in addressing these efforts by Bush backers to sway the Iowa electorate.
“I’ve heard the ads,” Jindal told BuzzFeed’s McKay Coppins. “They can run all the ads they want telling us why they should have control of education … and that parents aren’t smart enough to know what’s best for their kids. They can do that. But I wouldn’t bet against the parents.”
“Clearly, the folks that are for Common Core have a lot of money,” Jindal added. “Good for them. I still put my money on the moms and dads.”
Right on …
Government-run education – especially here in early-voting South Carolina – is an unqualified disaster. And we don’t see any way to package expanded government involvement in a way that’s going to appeal to “Republican” voters here.
What about Iowa, though?
“The pro-Common Core ads that began running in Iowa this week don’t help Bush, I think they hurt,” Craig Robinson, a GOP blogger in Iowa, told The New York Times.
Robinson said Bush should focus instead on his education record as governor of Florida … which this website has repeatedly praised.
Like Jindal, Bush was an aggressive proponent of expanded parental choice … and his successful efforts paid off for thousands of students in the Sunshine State. Unfortunately, as his national profile rises he veers further to the left – on education and a host of other issues.

I’m pretty sure that you meant “slapped the PI$$$ out of liberaltarians”; and I’m pretty sure it would be Tango, not Piyush Jindal, doing the slapping. But only in his mind, of course.
Incoherent much?…LMAO…
Very well done southmauldin. He/She won’t get it, too vapid and all tin foiled up, but nice work.
Jesus, why are the dumbest, poorest performing states content on remaining that way, besides a dumber voting base is desirable to republicans?
Common Core – and liberal schemes like it – are WHY the ARMPIT of SC is Democrat..and will STAY impoverished, as long as F*#king idiots, like you, sell these poor fools on the idea Common Core is not leftwing indoctrination, but education…
Democrats just prostitute ALL that is good, including clean air, racial fairness, and even education – as acceptable only if it’s liberal. When the opposite is true. You pervert ALL that you touch.
You are filthy, corrupt and totalitarian…when we get education away from your hideious and hateful hands, it may begin to work again…
Let me guess…fully educated in SC? You make a great argument FOR Common Core.
Ignorant and Dumb@$$ cliché much?….LMAO…
PS: Ever try originating a real thought, instead of copying and pasting DNC/Obama dogma???
We’re not the ones who cut and paste Breitfart and Red State – you ninny. “Oh, they cropped W in Selma.” Duh!!!!
It’s a cliche that people fully educated in SC appear dumb, because it’s true a lot of the time. Case in point: GrandTango
Your grammar, spelling, expletives laced with symbols, the childish use of the word “much”…yes, you are a product of SC schools. Common Core woulda dun ya sum good, boy.
Don’t let Angry Germ (aka GT) get to you Goober ;)
Yeah because white Republicans run the state of South Carolina and LA, and their schools are soooo goood.
Agreed. Your insights are getting better. You should change your registration to independent.
Lexington One has some of the HIGHEST test scores and college completion rates in the nation…Dumb@$$…and it’s about THE MOST Republican voting too…
Do some research so you don’t look like such a feeble-minded Dumb#$$…LMAO…
Speaking of research… never mind about all of those other failing school districts in this REPUBLICAN controlled state.
smh
Notice he never supplies any sources to back up his claims?
You run those schools Dumb@$$…and you squeal like the Ignorant F*#k you are…when we try to help you out of your ignorance and failure…
Don’t blame us. You’re the Dumb@$$…LMAO…
If it’s good enough for Jeb, it’s good enough for me. Why do you hate Jeb so much?
Well freakin’ good for Lex 1 – where all the rich people live and they get all this tax revenue to spend on schools. But statewide, we blow chunks. And since the state is run by Whitey Republican – you can see the results. Don’t accept Common Core. Don’t except technology. Let’s teach our kids God created the world around 2000 years ago, dinasours didn’t happen, there is no negative impact from carbon emissions. In fact, let’s teach them that carbon emisssions are essential for the planet because we’re running out of carbon. Raising standards doesn’t hurt anyone, except those who don’t want to raise their performance. And since it’s Whitey Tea Party people all bent out of shape, I guess we know who doesn’t want to improve their performance. Dumb@$$
Ignorant Racist Much??….what I tell you about Democrats going from hating blacks to hating whites
Maybe you ought to leave the Democrat Plantation, and you would not be mired in Ignorance and failure…
Maybe you should move away from Crapville and join the 21st century. Nevermind – I think most would prefer you stay in Crapville. What’s unemployment in Crapville – 13%? Thank goodness for WIC or Crapville would be pretty hungry.
Why do pigs wallow in mud?
People are WAKING up. Hillary is being seen as a joke instead of the next savior of the Democrat Party…47 Senators Totally EMBARRASSED Obama on the world stage…and now Jeb Bush is getting his @$$-kicked by Conservatives, after peddling himself as the next Liberal-Tarian-in-waiting…
It is a very EXCITING time. We must double-down, and Squash these Leftwing B@$t@rds while the people are CHEERING with passion for us to do in the Democrats….
Onward and Upward!!!!!!….
Common parlance of the day in 2004 maybe. Dumbass.
So I’m not the only one who has named you that???…Not surprised…LMAO…
Thanks for sharing…Hahahaha…
I am opposed to Government incentives trying to force the masses in the same direction. I DO however, like Common Core. The curriculum itself is excellent. It all ties together. The way it is taught is very different than the way we were taught and that is where most parents disagree. They don’t understand it.
I was initially opposed to Common Core, but since that was the standard being implemented and after all the fear mongering I had heard, I decided to teach it myself v. public school – I mean it is waaaaay to liberal right? I am still searching for those liberal ideas, maybe they don’t introduce those until much later?
Are there some issues with it? Sure, a burp here and there. The biggest disagreement I have with the curriculum itself is the wh- digraph is prounced /w/. We don’t wat, w(h)ere, wen, wy. I just tell my daughter if she doesn’t hear the wh sound, the it is spelled with a w.
While Ron Paul may have good intentions, I have also reviewed his curriculum. I pales in comparison. Some may want to use it though: http://www.ronpaulcurriculum.com/
I like Common Core too but knee jerking gets me more votes.
“I am opposed to Government incentives trying to force the masses in the same direction. I DO however, like Common Core.”
Huh?
I like the curriculum, but I do not like it being forced. I support individual choice.
Yeah.. you’re not the boss of me.
Now you are sounding like my 6 year old LOL.
You missed it. YOU are sounding like your 6 year old. You are drinking the kook-aid that says parents (or the general public) is more expert at education than educators
As Nietzsche says, you have your way, I have mine, as for the right way it does not exist.
We are all doing what we think is best for our children. I’m not in the mood to say anything ugly today, so pick a fight with someone else. ;)
Why not just have gov’t take away everyone’s kid so a better job can be done by the experts?
Why not tone down on the crazy crap no one is saying?
“kook-aid that says parents (or the general public) is more expert at education than educators”
So using his logic, if only experts in any given area should be allowed to help formulate the thoughts of children in any given area, how could we allow parents to keep their kids assuming that’s what most of them do all day long?
Thank you. I wonder how many people have actually taken the time to familiarize themselves with Common Core before taking a side in this issue.
It is my guess, not nearly enough. When they do, they don’t understand it. The Math concepts are very different (i.e. we no longer borrow because that would imply you pay it back, instead it’s called regrouping).
I have the unique ability of starting out with my daughter. If she were in Middle School and I didn’t have the teaching resources, I would be completely lost.
I saw a lot of things taken out of context before I started using Common Core Curriculum, I thought to self, “ohmigosh, what is this?”
It is a demanding curriculum, but it ties together so well that IMO it is easier for most children who start off with it. I do feel for those in higher grades, I can see how it can be confusing for them.
Dear Prince: There is no such thing as Common Core Curriculum. There are Common Core Standards. End state vs the means or cause of the end state. Also, I promise I will keep my govt hands off your Medicare.
BTW, you too FITS
Dear Rak: Those Common Core Standards do have supporting Curriculum.
Shoot, by the time I am eligible for Medicare, not sure I will still be alive #1 and #2 if it will be funded.
Your concern for my vocabulary, content and general well being is much appreciated.
Of course they have supporting curriculum, but it doesn’t come from the feds.
I have no idea what you are talking about, let me read up and see if I can make sense of the “feds”
Ok, just re-read your comment, still not following your train of thought. k12.com is the company that is best known for supplying Book that are Common Core. No idea where the feds comment is coming?
A common complaint about CC is that it is federal overreach, when in fact the standards were put together by people from the states. Some folks claim that the feds are “shoving a curriculum (or an agenda/propaganda) down the states throats. If you’re not of the group, “I’m glad. Books are not the same as curriculum, and states/districts still decide how to achieve the standards. Peace.
Sorry to take so long to respond, I spent several hours taking my daughter to the hospital (nothing that medication won’t cure).
Anyways, I have been all over the board with Common Core. I initially heard all the hype from the right and opposed. I had two different SC radio shows contact me for interview, which I declined and handed off to someone else, simply because I did not feel qualified to answer unless I was going to spew all the bullet points I had heard enough I could recite from heart.
The curriculum I use is Common Core, the Virtual Charter I attended last year also taught Common Core.
I think the breakdown in terminology, books vs. curriculum. K12 is more than books, they have lesson plans, online reporting system, progress tracking, online assessment and so on. It is a well thought out plan and the books are a part of that curriculum.
I once sent a letter to Sen. Hayes on Educational Oversight Committee expressing my opinions on Common Core. His reply indicated the ship had sailed, a lot of development and effort already put into it, however, he was concerned about the assessments. That is where my concern is in a public setting – they want to test kids to death. Even using online K12, there are many many tests for a 1st grader.
Since I can think of no current better replacement for Common Core and I do like the interface, daily planning, books, accountability, accessibility to resources and that K12 provides, I am not going to gripe about it too much. As a homeschooler, we still take the old assessment tests, so it works for me.
Peace :)
One other comment on the topic – K12 is so thought out, it really is dummy proof, all you have to do is read the lesson plans, gather the materials and you are prepared to teach. They have numerous resources, including instructional videos, which I have watched everyone recommended in the lesson plan, and there are many for each topic. It is more comprehensive than just books, a poor and rushed statement on my part.
I might also, I won’t bash Common Core so much, because based on where SC has ranked in the scheme of education, I don’t feel there is anywhere to go but up in the ranks. Therefore, I am more open to trying new ideas.
Common Core will make SC’s ranking worse … and make those states’ who do not adopt it better ranked … count on that.
While it has been Republicans who speak out against it most, calling it a watered down and liberal curriculum. I find it a very challenging curriculum.
When John Stossel came out with stupid in America a few years back, it seemed to be amazing that kids in 4th grade could read. My 1st grader can read.
It may make SC worse, not because the curriculum is watered down, but because it is challenging.
Everyone is adopting it, those who are “opting” out are only opting out of portions, I can’t think of one state that has completely opted out?
Yes, complicated and often obtuse. Common Core Standards: Introduction … Common Core Standards: Decimals …Common Core Standards: Exponents … Common Core Standards: Geometry >> an alternative to common core in the classroom, broken down.
A student usually reverts to “regular”, old fashioned, formalized math when confronted with the above. Example: http://www.khanacademy.org/math/geometry
I will have to cross that bridge when I get there. I have several family members who are very strong in math, I am not one, unless you want to talk accounting :).
In 1st grade it is easy enough to follow the concepts. I do have a family member that is a Math Major who tried to help a middle school student with algebra, but had no clue how to solve it the Common Core way…..
Anyone who calls it a ‘curriculum’ doesn’t know enough about it to discuss it.
Come on guys, can we stop with the mincing of words? I did do the Virtual Charter School last year where I had some teacher guidance on what the Common Core Standards are. I also know what curriculum they use and where they buy it.
So to clear up any misunderstandings on the thread:
“What guidance do the Common Core State Standards provide to teachers?
The Common Core State Standards are a clear set of shared goals and expectations for the knowledge and skills students need in English language arts and mathematics at each grade level so they can be prepared to succeed in college, career, and life. The standards establish what students need to learn, but they do not dictate how teachers should teach. Teachers will devise their own lesson plans and curriculum, and tailor their instruction to the individual needs of the students in their classrooms.”
This same guidance is provided in the K12 materials.
http://www.corestandards.org/about-the-standards/frequently-asked-questions/
From K12 2013 “These efficiencies will be enhanced with the coming transition to the Common
Core State Standards, with which our curriculum is already
largely aligned. Under Common Core, resources once spent
on revising curriculum for different states can be redirected
toward investment in more innovative products and
remediation technologies.”

Each year K12 asks for feedback….
There’s a saying that once you have hit rock bottom the only direction left to go is up that might apply here.
“Been down so long it looks like up to me”, etc.
Look, the basic ideals/agenda of world communism, “all for one” socialism and the “progressive” Fascists is to control education (propaganda) … to complicate otherwise simple program(s) and cram as many of their “unionist” buddies into g’ment positions as possible. … Thus Common Core was born to pad expense accounts, go-to-meetings, hire more unionized teachers and especially school administrators.
Bobby Jindal is more Dinesh D’Souza like everyday….shrill and hysterical.
Are all Indian men like that?
Recently learned: NEWS FLASH! Jeb Bush fudged the figures! His twisted treatment of education results tortures the logical mind. The nationally normed tests tell the story, so he has forced proprietary tests on the students at great cost to taxpayers. This man is using Common Core as his personal piggy bank for the presidential race and his fat cat world control cronies like Bill Gates, George Soros and Pearson PLC are paying so much money to him to get into the $1.3 trillion market that he told them to hold back their money. He has too much! He fooled nearly everyone with his insistence that we were doing well, but dig deeper. In Lee county, the ACT scores averaged 20.1 in 1995, a level they have not been close to since. He lied and education died. Kids cry to stay home because school drives the love of learning right out of the kids with 40% of their time spent in testing alone. It has crowded out even recess for many schools. Stop this mad man. End Common Core and high stakes testing.
I read some posts and people need to learn about the reality of Common Core. Here’s a link you need to see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Si-kx5-MKSE
