Mark Sanford’s Top Staffer Secretly Advised Thomas Ravenel

“LUV GOV” CHIEF OF STAFF BATTLED BEHIND THE SCENES FOR “REALITY CANDIDATE”

|| By FITSNEWS || U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford‘s closest political advisor – and current chief of staff – provided covert counsel to former S.C. Treasurer (and reality TV star) Thomas Ravenel‘s disastrous 2014 petition candidacy for the U.S. Senate, sources tell FITS.

Scott English – who held a government job with then-S.C. Superintendent of Education Mick Zais at the time – may not have directly interacted with the candidate, but volunteers on the Ravenel for Senate campaign tell FITS he performed a number of high-level functions on Ravenel’s behalf.

Among those functions?  Putting the campaign in touch with a media buyer for Ravenel’s end-of-race television ad blitz.

“English helped (Ravenel) because he did not like (Lindsey Graham),” an activist familiar with the situation told FITS.

Really?  That strikes us as highly unlikely … especially seeing as Graham is godfather to one of Sanford’s four children, and Sanford and his entourage (especially English) have always been chummy with Graham’s political team.

Also of interest?  The activist’s assessment of the value of English’s “contributions” to Ravenel’s candidacy.

“His advice … during the campaign hurt Thomas more than it helped,” the activist said.

That much is abundantly clear …

Ravenel was polling in the low double-digits for much of his 2014 candidacy, but finished with less than four percent of the vote.

What happened?  Well, aside from his always eventful personal life, Ravenel chose to put his money into television commercials stressing socially conservative (“Fighting for our Families“) and pro-military (“Fighting for our Bases“) themes.

Those advertisements – distinctly at odds with Ravenel’s personality and his ideology – fell flat with voters.

“He was told he had to counter the playboy image and (the) perception he was against men and women in uniform,” one source close to the campaign told FITS.  “They tried to turn Thomas into something he wasn’t.”

English did not immediately respond to our request for comment regarding his association with Ravenel’s campaign.

Of interest?  Last week English hired former Ravenel for Senate campaign manager Amy Lazenby as his new spokeswoman.

This must be the same feckless cretin who advised James Metts, Bobby Harrell, Richard Eckstrom, Bob Peeler and Danny Frazier!
Can these losers find anyone with ethics, morals and credentials to actually promote and live by the Republican mantra of religion (faith, no not the name of the last female they had an affair with) morals, ethics, honesty, truthfulness, true transparency, etc.

Yes, the Grand Old Party, my party, is getting a very bad rep, from the reprobates we seem to elect to carry our mantle!
I’m embarrassed by the adulterers, the immorality, the lack of ethics, and criminal activity of Sanford, Harrell, The Peelers, Metts, Eckstrom, Haley.
Can we not do better?

Come now…TR needed no bad advice. He supplied all of that to himself. The only advice that would have helped him break 5% would have been to stop talking…and writing…and procreating with 22 year-olds out of wedlock…and generally acting like the buffoon that he is. None of that was going to happen- due to his blissful lack of self-awareness.

“due to his blissful lack of self-awareness.”

I figured a 50 something year old man making a duck face photo might be something more than the lack of self-awareness, but I’m coming around to your viewpoint.
