|| By FITSNEWS || It’s that time of year … when Americans lose an hour of sleep in the name of perpetuating a failed government energy experiment.
We’re referring of course to daylight saving time, which is scheduled to begin at 2:00 a.m. on March 8 (and run through November 1).
This website has consistently opposed daylight saving time …
“Should we really continue this ridiculous ‘spring forward, fall back’ interruption in our daily lives?” we wrote a few years back. “If you ask us this whole thing is a scam.”
Utilized off and on during the first two World Wars, modern daylight saving time was implemented 1966 via the Uniform Time Act (which was last adjusted in 2007). Created with the intention of conserving energy by reducing nighttime lighting bills, daylight saving time has accomplished its purpose.
The only problem? It’s also created a huge spike in air conditioning usage in the evenings – and new demand for lighting in the early morning hours.
In fact a 2014 study published in the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization suggests the hated practice might actually be increasing energy costs.
Beyond that, daylight saving time drains the economy of productivity – an estimated $1.7 billion worth (in 2007 dollars).
It also makes people groggy … which has other adverse consequences. Take this 2014 study out of the University of Colorado (Go Buffs!), which concluded that groggy drivers are far more likely to have traffic accidents – creating additional economic loss (and the loss of life).
“The increased risk (of accidents) persists for the first six days of daylight saving time,” the study concluded, “causing a total of 302 deaths at a social cost of $2.75 billion over the 10-year sample period.”

Two states – Hawaii and Arizona – do not observe daylight savings time. Meanwhile legislation is pending in several other states – including Alaska, Oregon and Washington – to do away with the hated time change.

Daylight saving time isn’t a “good idea gone wrong.” It was a bad idea from the beginning. One state governments should scrap sooner rather than later.

If anything, I think Daylight Savings Time should be made year long. Some of us who actually venture outside or have jobs other than blogging stand to benefit from the fact that it will get darker later.
One or the other is fine with me. Just keep the same one all year long.
How about we just fall back an hour every day? 25 hour days mean an extra hour to sleep, the rest of the 24 hour world be damned.

From 1970 until 2006, most of Indiana in the Eastern Time Zone did not observe daylight saving time, but the entire state started to do so in April 2006 after eight counties in western Indiana were shifted from the Eastern Time Zone to the Central Time Zone. One goal for observing DST was to get more Indiana counties observing the same time zone; formerly, 77 counties observed EST, 5 observed EST/EDT (the EDT usage being unofficial only), and 10 observed CST/CDT. At present, Indiana has 12 counties observing Central Daylight Time while the remaining 80 counties observe Eastern Daylight Time. Those counties observing CST are in two groups: one near or in the Chicago metropolitan area, and the other near Evansville in the southwest corner of the state.

In 2003, I bought a clock radio that was pre-programmed for DST. Then the Energy Policy Act of 2005 was passed. The change in DST went into effect in 2007. Now I have to change my clock four times a year.

Sorry to take so long to respond, I was typing from a Fablet that my dogs have definitely scarred, the screen cracked and the msg screen only works right sometimes, i.e. no ability to see what you are sending, just type. Not to mention, I am horrible at texting, particularly lengthy replies. I DO NOT recommend a Fablet, if so get one that is curved v. flat, easier to hold, no Samsung.
Anyways, I had a couple comments that were horribly autocorrected. I think I edited most of them and switched back to computer. :)
I’m a *genius*! I got a cockapoo and a zuchon. They were so easy to housebreak, and they don’t have that “mouthy” “scratchy” destructive yen… they’re small, cute, great indoor dogs.
The zuchon still eats shit when he goes out by himself, and comes back with poop breath, but it’s a small price to pay for such loving beasties.
I had a golden retriever… beautiful dog.. it fit in my two hands when I got him… cutest creature I think I’ve ever seen – even cuter than a squirrel… lots of energy… friendly… loyal… and then he got as big as a horse, and ate the couch. I put him in the back yard, and he tore the window screen off, and managed to claw and bite the trim off the window, and by the time I saw it, I could see light around the window, through the whiteboard, into the back yard… he’d dug up our bushes, and was working on pulling up a newly planted Bradford pear tree by the roots…

Having said that, in the heat of the moment, I will throw shit and hope something sticks.
I have FOUR labs. All but ONE a great house dog. That one dog who is a horrible house dog, I had to bring in, Alpha Male about to kill her.
The upside, she gave me a whole new reason for not exercising – she literally crapped on all my exercise equipment (like I really need an excuse – ha!).
Downside, I had just gotten the Fablet, my old phone died and time for a new one, thought it would be easier to text. It was ok for a few days, but breaks easily. It is on its 3rd week and pretty much dead, though I do use it – not what I had hoped for.
The battery problem isn’t a problem for me.. I take it with me to the chinese buffet, surf and read.. and by the time it runs out, I’m ready to go. Everyone, it seems, has a hot spot.
I have a fast charger by the bed… I plug it in there when I’m home.. sometimes I read until it poops out – I usually fall asleep first… and it’s not a horrible thing to keep it plugged in.. I watch cable with ear buds at night sometimes… for me, the kindle is perfect.
I’m always talking to people about their labs… always a fascinating story by everyone that owns one.. while I was getting some jewelry for my wife, the sales woman related a story about her dog… it kept up mischief all the time, and punishment never seemed to correct the behavior… then one day, as she escalated through frustration, she broke her hair brush on its ass.
I didn’t know quite how to feel about that… I’m just glad I gave mine away… to an old couple whose lab recently died… they had a dozen acres for Max to run around in… he’s a happy dog now.
I think I want to use mine far more than you do? My husband is the brains of technology, we used to walk through stores abd he would point out hardware he or others he directed in technology-based hardware, the commercial hardware he took part in.
It works great for him, but I am more Web based, application vs. hardware technology. He is always one step ahead when it comes to hardware and any imaginable ways you might want to use software to get there. In many ways appreciate that, but do not like him picking out hardware for me.

For example, when a mothers life is in danger and she has other children to take care of. One of many. I took a Religions of the World course, taught by a Professor that I believe Baptist (he was rumored by student to have been spotted at a Baptist Church for service). It was a life changing event for me. Turned my secure world upside down with facts.

And on and on…just like the GOP-ruling Congress of the 1990s.

I have been against my daughter being a girl scout, therefore I am not looking for an excuse.
My husband was a boy scout in his youth, I live in a very rural and conservative pocket of the state. He explained to me how girl scouts works, if you can imagine, because we are looking for other social outlets. I assure you any girl scout association in this area is going to be very religious in nature.
You might find it interesting that I started homeschooling after we moved because the schools here, while nurturing are academically weak, as is the case in many rural areas. My daughter’s preschool was a private Christian school.
There is only one private Christian school with a 30 minute driving distance that I strongly considered, it’s a Catholic school, but the tuition is in the same ballpark price range as college tuition. While there are plenty of other private schools in the area, it is my understanding these are your hell, fire and brimstone, tyically nondenominational. Some of these private schools require the parents to sign a statement of faith, that while I can agree in part, cannot possibly agree with all. That is their right, but I am not going lie about what I do or do not believe.
You may also find it interesting I was actually baptized Pentecostal Holiness, without a clue they handled snakes in a church I went to as a kid lol.

My husband keeps mentioning getting our child involved with Girl Scouts. I could not remember the stigma I associated with the organization, though I do know I don’t want my daughter going door to door. You may have actually said something thought provoking.

One girl scout spent all of her time making knots. She knew every knot, and knotted everything she touched. One day she watched her mother making dough for bread. She picked up a piece and invented the pretzel!
As a farmer I like daylight saving time and wish we could keep it year round. But either way keep it the same.
