Surely we can afford to make a distinction between the people whose only capital is their mental and physical energy, and the people whose income is derived from investments. Such a distinction would mean much to millions of American workers and would be an added inspiration to the man who must provide a competence during his few productive years to care for himself and his family when his earning capacity is at an end.[9]’
Mellon’s policies helped reduce the overall public debt (the national debt skyrocketed from $1.5 billion in 1916 to $24 billion in 1919 because of World War I obligations) from $33 billion in 1919 to about $16 billion in 1929,[10] but then the Depression caused it to rise again because of reduced revenue *and increasing spending*. …”
… That would be Woodrow Wilson’s government debt in 1919, which brought on “The Hidden Depression” of 1921-1922.

Here is some hard math: the majority of Citizens do not have to pay any fed income tax, but the majority do have to file the return. This alone is reason enough to Abolish the IRS.
More math: the top five Big Oil companies pay more into the U.S. Treasury than all personal income tax collections combined. That’s also reason enough to Abolish the IRS.
Even more math: the U.S. Treasury is now running a huge surplus, greater than … Ever! Gruberment does not even need the personal income tax revenue. Also reason to Abolish the IRS.
From 2008 through 2012 Gruberment “granted” and loaned” the banks more than all personal income taxes combined. The fed g’ment could have bailed out all income taxpayers for a whole lot less … and the U.S. economy would be booming with consumerism … and the IRS could have been Abolished years ago!

The Fair Tax is the only fair tax. If you buy a widget you pay the tax. If you don’t you don’t pay. No tax forms, no paper shuffling bureaucracy no tax cheats, You buy it you pay it. The major objection to the fair tax comes from politicians who use the tax code to regulate the way we live. Another reason to do away with it.

But first, we have to get rid of what we have now. … Then, and only after that, find a tax plan that that is worthy of The Citizens rights to a “fair” and just tax.
The “fair tax” is a sham. No “fair” consumption tax has ever been proposed. Republican consumption tax proposals to date have one goal. To shift tax from the wealthiest Americans to the middle class. All of the proposals to date have have excluded from the proposal the things that would make a consumption tax fair.
To be fair a consumption tax must include raw materials purchased by manufactures, stocks, bonds, real estate, investments of any type and all services. No proposed consumption tax does this, because those are the things wealthy donors spend their money on. They don’t want to pay tax on those things.
If we would include those things, the consumption tax rate could be much lower than any proposed consumption tax rate to date. So ask yourself. Why not lower the consumption tax rate and include those things? Then look at who is paying Republicans to push a consumption tax and you will see why.
In other words if the Koch brothers decide to pay 1 billion to acquire a company, they do not want to pay a 10% fair tax on that purchase. Why? Well, because that isn’t the fair they had in mind.

Eliminating the IRS would be big jobs “killer”. What would all those “tax professionals” at H & R Block do for a living? How about those in the Statue of Liberty costumes? Not to mention those high dollar “Tax attorneys”.
Anyway it sounds good, but the IRS is here to stay. The people with IRS issues usually created those issues. Tax simplification– possible, but for 90% of those that file, it’s as simple as it can be. Most people that bitch about the IRS are not paying much in income taxes.
The major problem with the IRS is a lack of competent employees.

Believe it: those jobs that pretend to protect the Citizens and Taxpayers from the evils of government central planning and the IRS in particular would never be necessary at all if the tax codes were close to fair and just.
The U.S. Citizenry could have “simple as it can be” tax reform, but first and foremost, that evil snake has to be killed … otherwise g’ment burro-crats will continue to obfuscate and push back on any hope and change … for ever.
