AND THOUGHTS ON “HUMAN HUBRIS …”
|| By FITSNEWS || We got a lot of grief for our recent post mocking the latest global warming conspiracy theory (which holds that eating meat is bad for the environment).
It isn’t … but try telling that to the bureaucratic enviro-Nazis desperate to keep the “climate change” ruse going at all costs. Actually … on second thought … don’t try telling them that. As we’ve noted previously, you can’t argue with supporters of global warming because all they see – everywhere, in everything – is validation of their theory.
Hot summer? Global warming. Cold winter? Global warming. Cool summer? Global warming. Mild winter? Yeah … you’re getting it.
Anyway …
We recently stumbled on some information that we think puts this debate in its proper context. According to a post from analyst Paul Dorian of Vencore Weather, a big driver of global temperatures is … hold the phone … the sun.
“Solar activity has been very low and one measure of solar activity – its X-ray output – has basically flatlined in recent days,” Dorian wrote last week.
He’s even got a nifty chart from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) showing this flatline …
(Pic: Via)
Hmmmm …
The sun is currently in what’s called Solar Cycle 24. Every eleven years or so, there will be a peak (or a few peaks) in sun spot formation – which are huge magnetic storms on the sun’s surface that spew “mass coronal ejections” of hot gasses into space.
And while these “mass coronal ejections” are 93 million miles away from earth, they play a significant role in determining how hot or cold it gets on our planet.
Solar Cycle 24? It kicked off back in January 2008 and experienced its first peak in 2013. But the sunspot activity associated with the current “Solar Maximum” is nowhere near as intense as the Solar Cycle that preceded it.
In fact, here’s a chart from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) showing the difference …
(Pic: Via)
“Not since cycle 14 peaked in February 1906 has there been a solar cycle with fewer sunspots,” Dorian wrote. “We are currently more than six years into Solar Cycle 24 and today the sun is virtually spotless despite the fact that we are still in what is considered to be its solar maximum phase.”
Interesting, huh?
Ready for the kicker?
“It is safe to say that weak solar activity for a prolonged period of time can have a negative impact on global temperatures in the troposphere which is the bottom-most layer of Earth’s atmosphere – and where we all live,” Dorian continued. “There have been two notable historical periods with decades-long episodes of low solar activity. The first period is known as the ‘Maunder Minimum,’ named after the solar astronomer Edward Maunder, and it lasted from around 1645 to 1715. The second one is referred to as the ‘Dalton Minimum,’ named for the English meteorologist John Dalton, and it lasted from about 1790 to 1830. Both of these historical periods coincided with below-normal global temperatures in an era now referred to by many as the ‘Little Ice Age.'”
The takeaway? There are bigger things impacting the earth’s temperature than man-made pollution. Much bigger things.
“Global warming boosters have this unbounded hubris that it is humans who control nature, and that human activity can terminally despoil the planet as well as cause its salvation,” Southwestern Law School professor Joerg Knipprath wrote back in 2009 (before the latest Solar Cycle).
Again … this website believes in the Biblical notion of stewardship. We believe in maximizing natural resources (recycling and reusing them wherever possible) and exploring alternative forms of energy creation. Additionally, we support a limited role for government in the protection of these natural resources (although we adamantly oppose the subsidization of certain sectors of the “energy economy” at the taxpayers’ expense).
And we oppose the chronic overreach of U.S. president Barack Obama‘s Environmental Protection Agency, just as we also oppose global wealth redistribution in the name of “fighting global warming.” If for no other reason than recent data would indicate global warming isn’t happening.
“In the final analysis, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet,” former U.S. president John F. Kennedy said in June of 1963. “We all breathe the same air. We all cherish our children’s future. And we are all mortal.”
Indeed … and we all have an obligation to leave future generations with a better planet than the one we inherited.
In fact within this basic desire is the very heart of this issue: The existence of a market for environmentally friendly products and services. One that, if permitted to breathe free, could have a far bigger impact on creating a “better planet” than government over-regulation and wealth redistribution.

When FITS turns on yall, you are In far – left looney land….
Dinner with some friends last night and was told a story about the relationship between DNC hag and femi-nazi Debbie Wasserman-Shultz and Obama.
Word is Obama wanted to get rid of her after mid terms however she threatened to expose him as the phony, radical muslim and anti-woman fraud that he is if he got rid of her.
Reminds me of FITS.You and I agree on most however we have disagreed on couple of politicians and issues. One thing about it however we have always been civil and worked for the things that are best for our communities and nation.
On the other hand look how the liberal nut jobs like Rocky and Smirks turn on FITS and each other when anyone dares to put forward an opinion that doesn’t adhere to the leftist agenda.
DWS is a bitch. There, I said it. But she’s our bitch, and we like her. Can’t wait for her to win Rubio’s seat.
Never happen
I know. They actually have another candidate they prefer. She is a bitch though.
You are exactly right. No two of the right leaning will ever agree on everything. And the left will take those sometimes meaninglessness disagreements to try to rip Conservatives apart.
But only the un-American and ignorant do not see that Obama has been a Disaster, and the Democrat Party has done nothing but ruin this country….
PS: Sometimes I may not disagree w/ you…but if FITS and his ilk attacks, or sides with, an individual or an issue…I give them H#!! because it is so much fun to see them squirm. They are used to defending their ignorance…
Oh please!!! How delusional can you be? There is no such thing as any type of minor disagreement with this loser. I have never once expressed any type of disagreement with GT regarding philosophy, poltical or otherwise, but yet he has called me every liberal icon in the book. I even got him to the point of bashing Christians because I had the wherewithal to call him out for his anti-biblical hypocrisy. Don’t fool yourself.
“We oppose….” “We support…..” Who is “we” exactly? A failed political groupie and his two ditzy wannabes? Stick to your forté, writing paid for fluff pieces for fake republican candidates for president. If people want a laugh, they can always read a FitsNews article about “science”.
When you run off the liberal nutjobs…FITS will be no more…
Poor you, who else will take your crusty ass in?
Correct. Everyone else would have banned him long ago.
Then what will you do?
boom
Those photos look like a microscopic picture of the vile, loathsome and incurable disease our elected state treasurer discussed in his public divorce papers.
how is solar activity connected to carbon in the atmosphere? the sun is heating my house so i might as well set it on fire?
Try this experiment and let me know how it turns out. The next nice Spring day we have, go outside around Noon. Now stand in the sun for say 30 minutes. Check to see if you sweat. Then, take a large black plastic tarp, and pull it over you. Let’s pretend that’s green house gases. Now, stay under the tarp for 30 minutes in the Sun. Now check to see if you sweat. Record the results and let us know what happens. And remember, that plastic tarp is man-made.
I grilled pork chops on the ‘weber’ last night at sunset in south Florida and when I heard a cow fart on Lake Okeechobee the flame on the grill ignited to 825 degrees.
Did I cause additional global warming? If I did, I may seek counseling.
You grilled Pork Chop? Is that why he’s not posting as much today?
Your “plastic tarp experiment” while an interesting thought is so flawed in design that it’s laughable. If we could drag said tarp over the Earth’s Exosphere you might have an experiment worth conducting but you can’t so it isn’t. The net effect of the increase of green house gases is a slight rise in temperature so to be offset by the uptake of said greenhouse gases by the oceans and vegetation followed by a slight decline in the Earth’s temperature. – that cycle has been going on since “Adam and Eve walked out of the garden” or “Groomph oozed out of the primordial swamp” – take your pick for which model you prefer.
Rocky. Actually the “Atmospheric Heat Trap” which is the proper term rather
than the misused term “Greenhouse effect”, actually works quite
differently. The true greenhouse effect works by restricting air
movement (convection) which would be the case in your plastic bag
example. It’s also the reason why you need an air/vapor barrier along
with insulation in your home to help maintain warmth (winter) or
coolness (summer).
Obviously, air movement is not being restricted across the entire globe thus there is little or no actual “greenhouse” effect.
To
this point, there have been no conclusive experiments or credible
papers presented which suggest that carbon dioxide has any significant
effect on increasing global temperatures. In fact, if there is a
relationship, it might be that the opposite is true as major increases
in carbon dioxide (not to be confused with carbon) have actually
followed increases in global temperatures, sometime by as much as 800
years according so some studies.
Now, here’s an idea for you to try.
Assuming that you are in the northern hemisphere where it is now cool to
very cold, gather as many friends as you can and by whatever means you
wish, see if you can produce enough carbon dioxide to increase your
state’s/province’s consistent temperature over 20 degrees Celsius within
the next few days.
Now, as a control to your experiment, notice that
as the sun will increasingly appear more overhead in our northern skies
over the next few months. As the earth tilts on its axis, the rays of
the sun will strike our land surfaces more directly. When the incoming
fast-moving short-wave radiation reaches the ground it is converted into
slower moving long-wave infrared radiation will be trapped to some
extent by the earth’s atmosphere thus warming our surroundings. In other
words our immediate lower atmosphere becomes warmer and warmer.
Time to check out your experiment. Which scenario had the greatest influence on warming in your region?
The
CAGW hype only “seems” to be a possibility when you know little or
nothing about science or how our warming/cooling cycles actually work.
Don’t get yourself lost in that crowd.
Shhh, don’t explain closed system self regulating cycles – it completely befuddles most casual global warming alarmists.
It’s got me befuddled:)
It’s fairly simple. Throughout the Earth’s history, it has gone through cycles that dramatically resemble the one we’re going through now – some have even shorter term spikes in warming or cooling (meaning the change came about in a very short period of time).
The geologic evidence of these changes abounds, one need only look at the South Carolina Sand Hills to understand that the oceans have been far deeper than they are now. Out west, there are innumerable lakes carved by proceeding and retreating glaciers and glacial debris covers the landscape. From this unimpeachable evidence, we can see that these “climate changes” have occurred with some regularity and on multiple occasions.
With that said, why would anyone think that our activity has much to do with it? Were we around to start the runoff that carved the Grand Canyon or the Ice sheet that covered the continental US so deeply that the weight compressed the ground so far that post glacial rebounding it is still occurring to this day?
Absolutely spot on!
Your points are correct but also pretty darned silly.
Sure the earth will survive when oceans are higher and the planet is warmer. Clearly geologic evidence shows that our world was very different than it was in the past. So what?
BUT, will people be able to live in that world? When the global human population is wiped out and our economy no longer exists you can spend your time patting yourself on the back.
Will we survive? Who knows. The point is that you didn’t start the climate change and you can’t do anything about it. So if that’s the case, consider who wants you to believe that you are killing the planet and what do they have to gain from it.
Also consider who wants you to believe that a couple million years ago it was warm so it must be not our fault this time. That is faulty logic.
The parallels of climate denialism and smoking causing cancer denialism are uncanny. Each time big industry with truckloads of money decided to create doubt so weak minds could just say “nobody knows” while they killed themselves and people around them. Just in case you weren’t sure, I am lumping you in with the weak minds.
It is not faulty logic when the same cycle keeps repeating itself as it has at least five times with almost identical factors.
I’m not paid any money by anybody to deny or confirm anything. I simply look at the data available and make my assessment.
It is faulty logic to assume that the cause of something today is the same cause of something in the past. It might be true but it might not be. They could have different causes entirely. The speed with which the current change is occurring is the red flag suggesting that they have different causes.
I am suggesting that big industry is paying a ton of money to create fake doubt. Just ask Willie Soon. This fake doubt allows weak people to keep doing what they are comfortable doing (smoking or spitting out carbon dioxide) and give them an excuse for their stupid and destructive behavior.
“I am suggesting that big industry is paying a ton of money to create fake doubt.”
I assume you’ve seen some of these articles:
“Worst Scientific Scandal of our Lives…”: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/comment/columnists/christopherbooker/6679082/Climate-change-this-is-the-worst-scientific-scandal-of-our-generation.html

Settled Science?: http://yellowhammernews.com/business-2/alabamas-state-climatologist-becomes-epas-worst-nightmare/
I am not only suggesting that “climate change alarmists” are paying big money to create this “emergency”, we’ve caught them doing it.
It’s also pointless, but who’s noticing.
This part is especially goofy: “fast-moving short-wave radiation . . . is converted into slower moving long-wave infrared radiation.”
And this: “which will be trapped to some extent by the earth’s atmosphere thus warming our surroundings.” The “trapping to some extent” is of course done, to some extent, by the CO2.
The originator of the whole CO2 scare, Dr. Carl Sagen, predicted the reverse … Global Cooling caused by planet wide green house gasses.
“Dr. Carl Sagen, predicted the reverse … Global Cooling caused by planet wide green house gasses.”
Nope. That is from dust.
Yeah, right: C.R.A.P. = Carbon, Radiation And Particulates. Dr. Sagen was quite clear about CO2 as the primary “green house” gas doing the dirty, dirty Ice Age work.
I knew you would be in the fore of basic enlightenment re: simple closed system mechanics. Keep the faith.
I have a better one and I do it every year on the first nice spring day.
1) take the afternoon off from work
2) set up a very low-slung tarp on my boat dock and sink into a lounge chair
3) open the first of several ice cold beers
4) roll a big fat old-school joint – a hog leg if you will
5) Cough and laugh until my old fuddy duddy neighbor from Ohio calls the cops
6) Have a beer with the local deputy sheriff and discuss things like how vinyl still sounds better than digital, who had the best tits in high school and which one of our old buddies has recently croaked.
7) Grill a couple of burgers on real charcoal and flip the neighbor a bird when the buddy steps inside to take a whiz.
8) Call off work for the next day, sleep in and do it again.
I like your experiment (except for the sheriff bit).
Job? Do you have a job? … Other than burnin’ burgers?
What a moronic pipe dream. It’s the air circulation, stupid.
Sun heats the Earth, causes weather changes. … Duh!
While you are dreaming up that obviously unreal, unnatural scenario, how about dreaming up some other plan to actually do some good with all of that planned for tax revenue that Gruberment is going to try to steal from everyone’s else. … again.
“Never in history has raising taxes changed the weather.” … And blaming your neighbor for climate changes is the epitome of Gruberment hubris.
How about this: let the free market driven forces come up with something other than allowing the taxsuckers to just take and take, while lying about the natural course of events beyond anyone’s control?
In the mean time, You go stand in the Sun until You can suggest a solution that doesn’t involve NOAA buying and building even more Carribean Cruise ships for the government school system “climate change” researching co-eds.
Facts of Life: suspecious0bservers.org
This just days after the oil industry has been caught paying scientists to refute claims that green house gases are actually accelerating global warming. Wei Hock Soon got paid over a million dollars throughout the last decade to falsify claims and send out false reports. This website champions ethics reforms, but it refuses to believe that big business could lie in order to retain its trillion dollar industry assets. It’s okay though. All of you people here are subscribed to cable, you’re tuned in to the false world of our corporate owned media, and you’re fed bullshit on a daily basis. I get it. You need to unplug from your television and switch to the Internet. It’s a wonderful new source of information, and it’s not controlled by anyone…yet! Plus, hey, it’s cheaper than cable. You can get movies on here too! Holy shit, this place is awesome, I feel so much more enlightened now that I know what news sources are full of shit and which ones are blowing corporate interests. Oh, this website says this? Let me do my own fact checking like an investigative journalist would so that I can discern for myself what is the truth and what isn’t. Oh? You mean I have to do critical thinking, and actually try to become knowledgeable? Fuck it, cable it is! FITS, you’re so good at looking at the money trail in our own state, but when it comes to actually changing the way we do things you’re going to go with big oil’s climate models. That’s hilarious.
I would like to see the typical American try to survive one day without “big oil”.
How about one day with big hemp, which is a potential healthier alternative to oil. Yeah, it can be made into plastic like products, metals, fuel, paper, rope, cotton like material, and other products. It’s the most versatile plant in the world. Plastic in the oceans is making it more acidic, thus making fish less safe to eat because they are ingesting the small degraded pellets that plastic turns into in the sea. I wouldn’t trust eating fish if my life depended on it right now, it’s just too risky. But sure, go ahead and be fearful that we as a nation aren’t strong enough to get off of oil. That just shows how weak we truly are.
Also, why start growing hemp? It’s super easy to grow, it grows like a weed, and it’s a viable resource for American farmers to get back on track and make some money. We wouldn’t NEED Saudi interests, we wouldn’t need to start false wars over oil interests, and those billionaires can still keep their products. But we live in America, and killing everything in sight is the only sane, reasonable, and humane thing to do.
I favor legalizing hemp, but its value is exaggerated.
http://modernfarmer.com/2013/10/legal-industrial-hemp-wont-matter/
I’ll purchase bible bound and printed using hemp.
There have been bibles that were bound and printed using hemp. Hemp hasn’t been criminalized except for the past century, so if you have a family Bible that’s an heirloom of some sort, it’s probably made of hemp. We’ve got books that are over a hundred years old at the house that are in fine to good condition, yet we have paperbacks that are falling apart at the seams in 20 years. No, hemp’s value isn’t exaggerated. It’s just that nobody has grown hemp in so long, that they can’t set a market price for it. There’s no economic backing of hemp, so people couldn’t place value on it. Honestly, it’s the most versatile plant on the planet. It can be used to make hundreds of products that could virtually replace paper and petroleum. It’s all natural, non-toxic, and safe to consume if swallowed. It can even be used as a non-intoxicating food source: cooking oil, pastes, and bases. It could change the way the world works, and for the better. That’s just my opinion though. Opinions are subject to change, and disagreement. Hope you have a wonderful day.
I am fairly certain that hemp was one of the three crops that the US Department of Agriculture’s experiment station at Florence, SC, was built to promote. Around 1900 I believe.
It is a weed.
That’s part of why it’s so great. It grows fast, rampant, and is easily replaced. Oil won’t be here forever, and I just don’t electric and hybrid going anywhere. Clean fuel, efficient product, it replenishes fast, and in a vast array of climates.
As soon as anyone makes big money from hemp and can afford their own crony scientists, you’ll be complaining again.
Nope. I’ll trust hemp before I trust petroleum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1oFcgLfgV0 because even our patriots in WWII were supported BY HEMP.
You trust “big oil” so much, you don’t even bother to think about it. You turn on a switch, crank the car, board a plane, no worry.
Every product you buy is delivered to your house or a local store; you drive to it and purchase it. Never even thought about saying, Thank you “big oil”.
I don’t want it to be that way though, and hemp is a viable and easier alternative than switching to electric or solar. Hemp is only illegal because the paper baron William Randolph Hearst saw fit to destroy the industry because it was easier to make paper out of than trees, and it grew fast enough to keep replenishing the supply. He and Harry J Anslinger created a propaganda campaign in order to discredit marijuana as a Mexican man’s drug that will make you go crazy and start listening to jazz music. It also made blacks look bad too, as the film Reefer Madness actually frightened people in the 1930s and thought their children would start hanging around blacks and go crazy, committing heinous crimes. Sure, big oil does SO MUCH for me, but I want big hemp to do so much more for me, and I’d like it to happen soon.
You are REALLY dating yourself if you even know who Harry Anslinger was (I’m 80, and I have even met him). Also, you seem to NOT know that Marihuana (sic, see old Fed Marihuana Tax Law) was legal up until the “Uniform Controlled Substances Act” became effective in 1972, [albeit taxed at $100.00 per ounce, plus another $100.00 for a “Federal Tax Stamp” for everyone who handled it (physician, as prescribere; pharmacist, as dispenser, and consumer as “ultimate user”; plus another tax stamp (I have forgotten the price) for the grower and the wholesaler].
“Reefer Madness” really is a hoot – almost as nutty as “Global Warming”.
“Everything you want is somewhere else, and you get there in a car.” E.B. White (?)
LOL … Have another hit.
For the record, hemp makes lousy rope. Manila, sometime called manila hemp is far superior but isn’t made of hemp at all. It’s a product of the leave of the Abaca plant (musa textilis). It’s called Manila in reference to one of the area of major production, the Philippines. The “manila hemp” name came about because at one time almost all cordage was in fact hemp. There is very little modern use for natural fiber cordage.
Interesting, thanks for the knowledge. That’s actually very cool.
Forty years of sailing and a degree in marine science will fill your head with lots of semi-useful trivia of this nature.
So, what is your viewpoint on hemp as a viable alternative fuel source? And, do you think that fossil fuels and petroleum products have an adverse effect on marine life, and ocean acidity?
I think supertankers are far more dangerous than pipelines…spilled oil is very detrimental in the oceans and far more difficult to deal with. My research says the Earth is far more dangerous to itself than we are. Volcanism, plate tectonics and the associated earth quakes are far more deadly than all of man’s peaceful endeavors.
The oceans are slightly more acidic today than they were thirty years ago: http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/science/indicators/oceans/acidity.html
The problem is that we don’t really have long term ph levels to understand the incredibly complex relationships between atmospheric CO2 and ocean acidity though if you look at the charts on the link I provided it would appear that EPA has settled the issue. Read their write up and suddenly it isn’t quite so settled…
Ass for the help debate, I wake between it being a whole lot off noise about nothing, a ploy by dope smokers who don’t understand
I do not believe in anthropogenic climate change
Which means, I suppose, that you would support a natural gas pipeline from the Trillion cuft. Pennsylvania fields to South Carolina?
(Considering that natural gas is thousands of times cheaper and hundreds of times more sustainable than hemp.)
Holy mother of Allahabad … 40 years in the navy? And a Colonel in the Air Force, too? When do you find the time to answer these fools Q&A?
Never in the Navy, just sailing my own small boats or providing “rail meat” for rich folks. Never in the Air Farce, just an interminable lifetime riding around in the back waiting for the green light or the fuzzy grey bird to land.
Now I know you are not using a game boy for you online posts … :-}
Mmmmm … at $135 per ounce? … before taxes?
Industrial hemp isn’t an intoxicant, but cannabis is.
That does not excuse them for using fake information. Too bad FITS buys into it.
It’s funny because Fits like to spout its libertarian agenda, and freedom of choice etc. But they’d rather settle with the oil companies? They want to choose to stay with the same people that are screwing us over, and have been proven in the past to give out false information. There was an episode of Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s The Cosmos that deals with the oil industry and its lying. Clair Patterson, a Geochemist who found a neurotoxin in lead, and fought the oil industry for years to get lead out of gasoline. The oil industry used paid scientists with fake information in order to continue to use lead in the gasoline because it made gasoline cheaper. Eventually Patterson won his case, but not after years of torment and scrutiny from the scientific community.
The Gruberment IS shut down … and has been since last Friday when all of the school kids were sent home in DC … Because of this global worming caused blizzard!
The unfortunate thing is that those taxsuckers are all still being paid.
You are saying what? Al Gore’s Church of Fear of Global Warming is right? … And not profitable? … And He didn’t pay that helicopter camera crew to kill that poor polar bear?
The libtards can no longer claim “global warming” so it’s now called “climate change”. Get with it.
One day the survivors will look back and laugh at all the deniers.
There will be no survivors, we are doomed to extinction. After fossil fuels are depleted and the rest of the earth looks like Easter Island we will vanish and the cycle will start anew.
And your Shi’ite don’t stink?
Btw: it now appears that the planet has more than a thousand years worth of nature gas available … And natural gas power is sustainable than Solar power or wind power or burning cow chips.
If there will be survivors what are we worried about?
Figures don’t lie but liars figure…Change has been happening since the earth began to form, to think you can stop it you have to be egomaniacal.
The earth is heated from the inside. This is why we bury water lines at 36 inches or more – below the frost line. Until the energy that warms the earth from within dissipates or until there is no more water, e.g God willin’ and the crick don’t go dry – the human cycle will continue. Unless, of course, the sun explodes and light is lost.
Basically the push back against the science of global warming is coming from two camps:
1. Religious folk who think it’s silly that humans think we can destroy what god created in 6 days.
2. The Fossil Fuel industry who fear lost revenue when humans move to renewables.
Which source would you trust? Scientists or non-scientists?
Carlin wasn’t religious and he thought “it’s silly that human think we can destroy what god created in 6 days”.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB0aFPXr4n4
“Which source would you trust? Scientists or non-scientists?”
It’s hard for me to trust scientists who are employed by gov’t, whose jobs and usefulness rely on getting more grants from gov’t- when the very gov’ts who employ them are mostly bankrupt and looking for justification to collect more money from everyone.
It’s like trusting a cigarette companies research showing their product doesn’t cause cancer….
blame the gov’t agenda scientists eh?
You do realize of course that science is not a political art? There are mechanisms in place for peer review, it has to be testable, replicable and the like.
Eventually (on both sides of the tussle) if you doctor a study or manipulate your findings….you will be caught and discredited permanently. Like that douche bag who said vaccinations cause autism.
So, having said all that….the breadth of the world’s scientists (over 90%) agree that global warming is real and mankind is contributing to it.
Now, in SC you’ll fit in just fine where we don’t need no stinkin’ science and are happy to be willfully ignorant.
“You do realize of course that science is not a political art?”…if you say so.
“blame the gov’t agenda scientists eh?You do realize of course that science is not a political art?”
You really believe there are no agendas about? None at all?
“There are mechanisms in place for peer review, it has to be testable, replicable and the like.”
You can’t get a reasonably accurate weather forecast 10 days ahead of time, let alone 100 years.
All we know right now is that the Earth is warmed 1.5 degrees in the last 100 years. (and that has happened before)
The rest is guesses, even done under scientific method. Science changes, evolves, etc.
Pardon me if I’m not convinced it’s time to start taxing the shit out of everyone and regulating cow farts over a 1.5 degree temp. change.(that’s occurred before)
I don’t have to hate science to be able to use my common sense.
Hell, what if global warming is actually a good thing? We only hear the horror stories of a submerged New York or Miami(and is it really bad to see those two places under water?). What if we can grow supersized watermelons and feed all the people in Africa?
lol…such hubris mankind has..but more importantly such misplaced trust to allow gov’t to run everyone’s life in the hopes of “saving the planet”. It’s pure lunacy.
You can’t ask an institution that can’t pave roads effectively or balance a budget to save the fucking planet. It’s like asking a retard to solve a Rubik’s cube.
Please answer the following questions so I can get an idea of where you stand with science.
1. How old is the earth?
2. How did humans in their current form, come to exist?
3. Is the earth round or flat?
1. 4.5 billion years or so
2. Who knows how life started, but humans current form probably evolved from lower life forms.
3. Round
Now go throw an “end of the world” party because the globe has warmed 1.5 degrees the last 100 years.
:)
Getting there…so by which process or processes did we come to learn these basic answers by?
Which process landed us on the moon? Came up with vaccines? Allowed for us to do open heart surgery? Figured out why poison ivy makes us itch?
You seem to be discounting science itself all of the sudden with respect to one of the most exhaustively studied fields ever. I don’t get it…then again, there are still people who believe the earth is flat.
“I don’t get it.”
Well first of all, the modeling of the weather systems is far more complex than the shape of Earth or deducing the age of it.
It’s not even close.
The issue of where we came from has not been sorted out and how we evolved is still not known…which says a lot…especially because the “science” surrounding our existence seems a whole lot less complex than the issue of our global climate.
Well those processes were not brought about by government … Each and every one were brought about by individual scientists and inventors looking for better ways than government central planning.
Btw: a thousand years ago the Earth was so warm, Greenland was actually green.
These are questions better answered by someone other than you or me. How about asking Michael Steinbacher?
You are a Gruberment Helot, a slave of the “progressive” Fascist propaganda machine.
Get a real job.
Don’t forget those who think for a living….
You show me a useful renewable and I’m on it like a fat boy on a donut. My co-workers Leaf can go a whopping sixty miles and takes eight hours to charge at a normal outlet. On the plus side, it’s so heavily subsidized with tax breaks for buyers and manufacturers that it is still worth making even though it’s really just a high end golf cart.
1. Just because a bunch of religoid neo-cons believe something does not make them wrong. (Another type of shorter term global change advocate: Michael Steinbacher on YouTube. )
2. And what is it about big oil don’t you trust? That they are making money while Al Gore’s Church of Fear of Global Warming isn’t? (And who says natural gas power and heat isn’t sustainable?)
“Just days ago, Greenpeace unleashed a vicious assault on Harvard astrophysicist Willie Soon, which of course was amplified in their media echo-chamber.
Warming campaigners also just smeared a statistician named Dr. Matt Briggs, University of Delaware Professor David Legates and the Executive Director of the International Climate Science Coalition, Tom Harris.”
The same consultitutes and morons denied tobacco’s risks for decades, while scores of thousands died.
I’m fairly certain that no one here is an atmospheric scientist, also coupled with the knowledge of sun cycles, oceanic currents, polar ice models, etc. et al….it’s best to remain skeptical on everything until the evidence is overwhelming…and it’s not(for now).
We are talking about 1.5 degrees over 100 years…and there’s still been times when the move was similar.

It’s laughable to see so many experts on both side of the issue being so “sure” of themselves.
It’s the new American way: “Wuh AH think . . . .”
Be it political implications of middle eastern colonial history, or environmental physics.”
What would count as an atmospheric scientist? A Phd. In Physics and Math with a minor in Aeronautical Engineering? …
This reporter says that Al Gore is full of Shi’ite.
Who knows, but my point is that there are lots of disciplines required with years of advanced study in each just to have an opinion that someone could even begin to take seriously…and even those people might not have enough overall knowledge to make such opinions well qualified….
So in the context of all of that…Joe Sixpack on either side of the issue making bombastic claims all seems a bit much.
We are still infants technologically in many areas, including climate science.
Best to remain skeptical of everything IMO….
And then look what happened to the economy. Gotta’ light?
You all go take a hike. I’m trusting Al the Gore with all I have. That canoe floatin’ son o beyotch has got my back. Here’s my money Al, preach to me!
