“PUBLIC SCHOOL CHOICE” ISN’T REALLY CHOICE …
|| By FITSNEWS || U.S. Senator Tim Scott is pushing legislation which would allow low-income students to use $1,300 in federal money per child (for a total of $14.5 billion) on “public school portability.” Scott and U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, a liberal “Republican” from Tennessee, are attempting to include these public school transfers within a rewrite of the 2002 “No Child Left Behind” law – the latest big government education experiment gone awry.
Look … we like Scott. And we appreciate his consistent efforts to protect our individual liberty and economic prosperity from Washington D.C.’s ever-encroaching onrush. He’s one of the few who votes in a manner consistent with the gravity of the situation – and we are genuinely grateful for that (and wish there were more like him).
But … to pretend shifting resources around within the government-run system is “choice,” well, that’s a disservice to the debate.
True “choice” occurs when parents have 100 percent flexibility with 100 percent of the resources earmarked by federal, state and local governments for the education of their child. And to be perfectly honest, the federal government should have absolutely nothing to do with that process … period.
Scott supports an $11 billion private parental choice program at the federal level, but like the limited choice program passed here in the Palmetto State a few years ago it is restricted to special needs students.
To their credit, both Scott and Alexander do support a $24 billion academic scholarship bill which would provided expanded options for low-income students.
For a look at a market-based federal choice proposal – not moving money around within the government system – CLICK HERE. But again, the sooner the federal government extricates itself from the education “marketplace” altogether, the better things will be for our future generations.
Also, it goes without saying all of these federal school choice proposals are “dead on arrival” so long as academic freedom-hating U.S. president Barack Obama is in the White House …

FITS gets his @$$ kicked by the Liberals and the Conservatives…And this is why:
Liberal-Tarians are Ignorant, ALL-or- NOTHING close-minded Bigots. It’s MY way, or the highway for them…It’s why Sanford was so Ineffective…He had no skill or tact.
Scott knows (as the Eagles sang) ‘Things in this life change very slowly’…you have to have the B@!!s to and patience to endure the leftwing hate squads…and beat liberals at EVERY battle to eventually win the war…or you end up surrendering, like Zais…or disgracing yourself, like Sanford…
Hats off to Tim Scott for understanding smart strategy…
And a hearty STFU to the politically naive FITS for not knowing his @$$ from a hole in the ground…yet trying to pontificate on it…
GrandTango is the undisputed heavyweight champion of projection.
Congrats to Tim Scott for trying to free the black families and children that the race hustling pimps like Jackson,Sharpton and Obama have enslaved to generations of perpetual hopelessness, despair and welfare since hijacking the civil rights movement.
Without an education these children will always be enslaved by the Democrat Party as only a vote with no hope for a safe living community or a decent job.
Republicans aren’t going to help blacks either though. They should just focus on building their own businesses/communities, like other immigrants that have come to the country.
Republicans already do that.Who do you think employees the few Democrats that actually work?
We don’t even complain when the perverted, racist trash that own the Democrat Party burn our businesses down in the name of ‘justice’. Just move it somewhere else.
No one can take you seriously with the whole “few Democrats that actually work” schtick and stuff.
The two party paradigm is failing and people are tired of the unkept promises made by both parties.
I beg to differ. Did you follow the results of the 2014 mid terms?
Rest assured the pendulum will continue to swing. 15% of the population endorsing any particular party is not sign that the other 85% are happy.
Sounds to me you’re pushing a double-barreled tax expenditure to me. First the deduction for the contribution to the 501C that grants “scholarships”, then the tax expenditure for the tax credit that results. And this is serving who again? Who or what is going to pay for these tax expenditures–that is, other than further cuts to public education. Hell, it’s not only a plantation education plan, you make money by sending your kids to the private plantation schools, er sorry, private academies.
Public Charter schools are a step in the right direction. We need more of them.
