I know it sounds hyperbolic, but you gotta admit to a *little* basis in fact. About 10,000 people die in alcohol-related crashes every year (it was over 20,000 annually back in the 80’s). Drunk drivers kill almost as many people as old-school murderers (there are about 15,000 murder / manslaughter charges made every year in the US). Any way you look at it, that’s a lot of dead folks.

There’s a difference between the number of people at risk by an individual who is drunk before he leaves towards his destination and makes decisions based on direction and so forth, and those who were at risk at specific points as he travels towards it.
