PALMETTO STATE STILL “KEEPING IT ALL IN THE FAMILY”
|| By FITSNEWS || This website has zero use for S.C. Rep. Davey Hiott – a liberal “Republican” from Anderson County, S.C.
He’s nothing but a special interest whore – a bought-and-paid for tool of whatever well-funded special interest needs a handout or an unfair competitive advantage. Hiott’s voting record at the S.C. State House is one of slavish devotion to the state’s failed status quo – especially South Carolina’s worst-in-the-nation government-run school system.
Anyway … Hiott’s latest scam? Carrying the water on a bill being pushed by liberal environmental lobbyist Ann Timberlake.
But that’s another story for another time … the purpose of this post is to highlight Hiott’s other big push this legislative session, securing business for his son’s political consulting firm.
Sources at the S.C. State House tell FITS the sixth-term lawmaker has been aggressively (and we mean aggressively) promoting the consulting services of his son, Lander Douglas Hiott.
In fact Hiott’s son (below, scratching his head) was recently seen getting the inside scoop at a meeting of the S.C. House GOP Caucus …

Nice …
Obviously Hiott isn’t the only “Republican” lawmaker looking to steer business toward a family member. Liberal S.C. Rep. Bill Sandifer has previously pimped the lobbying services of his son, while former “Republican” Senate President John Courson helped get his sister-in-law a $70,000-a-year job on a committee he leads.
Even “reform-minded” S.C. governor Nikki Haley has gotten in on the nepotism …
You’d think with all the recent attention on ethics reform that state lawmakers would be exercising some restraint right now … specifically refraining from parading their family members around the S.C. State House in the hopes of drumming up business for them.
Apparently not …
In addition to Hiott’s antics, Democratic S.C. Rep. Laurie Slade Funderburk and her allies are working to get her husband elected to a judge’s position.
Sheesh …
How embarrassing. Do these lawmakers have no couth? And do their relatives have no sense of self-worth?
Seriously …
“Any ethics reform package passed this year by the S.C. General Assembly include draconian new restrictions on relatives of lawmakers (and former lawmakers) getting state appointments,” we wrote earlier this week. “We are sick unto death of politicians telling us how they support ethics reform … only to watch their kin folk get high paying gigs on our dime. Enough is enough.”

Hiott is from Pickens, not Anderson.
We’ve been through this before. You have no right to question these family hand downs. These are the South Carolina elite ruling class, and we have no right to question what they do. They are entitled. Nikki was entitled to have her little girl work for the state during the summer, Joe was entitled to have Allen become the Attorney General, and the list goes on. Do not look at the man behind the curtian little girl, for he is entitled due to his greatness.
And let’s not forget that Joe pays his former law firm (Moore Taylor Law Firm) in West Columbia a fair market price to rent and office for his county office. I would say fair only applies to helping his former partners and NOT the district tax payers. TERM LIMITS – we need to clean it up from the Court house to the White House
Let’s not forget the snotty little shit that kicked the crap out of his girlfriend and is going to have his record cleared.
who is this particular “snotty little shit”?
Egg storm
Wait. We were talking about nepotism. Is anyone in Joe Wilson’s former law firm related to him?
No,but there is an attorney in the law firm whose daughter works for them.
The best thing about incest is you don’t have to leave the house…
Governor Haley’s daughter worked in a gift shop – not exactly a highly paid sought-after career. BFD! Alan Wilson was elected – his daddy didn’t give him the job.
Joe gives a good job.
And Curtis was entitled to have his business partner’s father as his chief of staff for almost 4 years. It’s all relative.
A guy named “Davey”? Then again, I’m not surprised that he named his kid after a shitty state school.
Maybe he could have named him after a more prestigious college… say Benedict or Allen.
I don’t think that word, “liberal,” means what you think it does.
In FitsWorld anyone he disagrees with is a liberal. It has no actual meaning.Fits ,a Right Wing Republican, just tosses it around ,as the word is a favorite epithet for his type.
Fits is right again! These goodies should be going to the sons and daughters of big money donors and other political operatives.Hiott is being very selfish.
What a joke of a “news” article. Facts aren’t even remotely close. Sounds like a bunch of angry Democrats with an axe to grind.
The fact that the author doesn’t even know where Hiott is from, or bother to find out, doesn’t give one much confidence.
That pics looks like something from a state funded university frat party….which is really all SC gov’t is anyway…so I suppose it fits.
What is the name of the firm? Light on some basic details here. Sounds fairly made up with out them.
Poor kid. Looks like he has a touch of Downs.
He’s nothing but a special interest whore – a bought-and-paid for tool of whatever well-funded special interest needs a handout or an unfair competitive advantage.”
Is Will writing about himself?
Maw Daddy JW Hump was a State Rep, and maw grand Daddy CW Hump was a State Rep, and I know when maw Daddy becomes a State Senator, I’ll become a State Rep. It’s been in maw family for generations. So you can all go piss off. Signed – JC Hump.
Neither is being a natural born citizenship a requirement, at least in Haley’s situation:

“Do these lawmakers have no couth? And do their relatives have no sense of self-worth?”
None of them care, because as long as they have the golden “R” by their name on the ballot the dolts of this state will continue to elect them solely for that reason.
Based on the picture the fella ain’t going to make it on his looks
Having Daddy pimping for him probably goes back to his formative years when he found it almost impossible to wean off the tit – no doubt he would still be at it if the school officials would have allowed adults to ride the short bus to middle school
Ain’t we all inbred here in South Cakalacy anyhow? We’s all related. So ‘less you go far out of da state to hire someone, you gonna hire yo cousin or half sister-in-law.
I’m not sure being a mouthpiece for any state politician who is too cowardly to make these types of accusations publicly is a job that’s going to help your children secure jobs. I’m not sure you could even call what you do a job. But, if this site would help your children land jobs, you’d be the first to use it to do so. Amazed you could point your fiancee-beating fingers at anyone.
Is this thing on?
**tapping microphone**
Davey Hiott is NOT from Anderson.
Jean Hoefer Toal got Inez Tenanbaum to give her sister a cushy job at the Department of Education. A job that was not advertised and was sort of “just created by Inez.” Does this count as nepotism?
Hmmmm…..comments jumping everywhere. Under impression FITS has enough follower. Happy Days!
Oh, wait, I think the word is minimized. Thanks!
Hot off the presses…..”Legislators use their office for their own personal gain.”
This attitude of surprise surprises me. The way things have to work is that we have a group of people who, by right of birth, monetary worth, or other social ranking, are entitled to certain privileges. The system needs these people in order to properly work. There’s nothing wrong with this if it serves the needs of government and I think it can be demonstrated very well that it does. In the modern corporatist world, those of us without rank need to acknowledge the great men and women who do things that we cannot or will not do by, essentially, keeping our mouths shut and getting with the program.
Have you never noticed thats how Magistrate Judges get their jobs?? Most of them have simply a high school diploma with no legal training. It’s simply that they knew someone and got “appointed” to be a Judge.
I don’t usually respond to FitsNews, but please don’t foist this guy off on Anderson County. He’s actually from Pickens. Anderson County has its own problems with Jonathan Hill and his “patently absurd” questions for judicial candidates.
