HERITAGE FOUNDATION LEADER EMBRACES NIKKI HALEY’S TAX SWAP

|| By FITSNEWS || This website has taken a dim view of South Carolina governor Nikki Haley‘s proposed gas tax/ income tax swap.

Don’t get us wrong: It’s not that we dislike the idea of reducing the income tax – we love it.  In fact we’ve been screaming for individual income tax relief for years (including the last four years during which time Haley has been twiddling her thumbs with various “reform in name only” proposals).

We just don’t trust her … or her numbers.

“This is the same governor who less than a year ago wanted to cut your taxes by a measly $29 … and who seven months ago vetoed less than one tenth of one percent of the state’s record-setting $25 billion budget,” we wrote earlier this weekend.  “And who seven months ago signed the authorization for local governments to raise taxes by $1.6 billion.”

And who wants to supplement her gradual income tax cut with a not-so-gradual gas tax hike …

Anyway, none of that is stopping former U.S. Senator (and Heritage Foundation president) Jim DeMint from giving Haley’s tax plan an undeserved “atta girl.”

“Gov. Haley continues to show why she’s a national conservative leader,” DeMint told The Daily Signal, which is the Heritage Foundation’s in-house news service. “She deserves credit for promoting tax reform that provides opportunity for all South Carolinians, and rejecting favoritism by taking on the transportation bureaucracy.  Reforms like this make our state more economically competitive with our neighbors.  It’s a great step forward for South Carolina.”

Actually no … it would be another shuffle sideways.  Possibly even backward.  A “great step forward,” by contrast, would be S.C. Senator Katrina Shealy‘s bill to completely eliminate the individual income taxwithout raising any other taxes.

What did the Heritage Foundation have to say about that plan?

(Crickets).

Look, we get that DeMint has all sorts of credibility amongst fiscal conservatives.  Hell, our incessant praise of his tenure in the U.S. Senate assisted him in the accumulation of that credibility.

But his embrace of tax swaps like this don’t help his standing one iota … nor do they bolster the credibility of his organization (which we’ve been skeptical of for some time).

Both Haley and DeMint should stop touting tax swaps and get on board with real relief for individual income earners and small businesses (the vast majority of which pay the individual income tax).

“Sikh God”

To my knowledge, Sikhs only believe in one god and don’t really discern him as being different from those of other monotheistic religions.

On a similar note, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam are all based around the “same god” too.

Gas tax is a consumption tax. We have millions of tourists come into SC, and even w/ a tax on gas, they pay less than in liberal, high-tax states…

If you can reduce a tax on South Carolinians (I say eliminate the income tax) and target users w/ more of a tax burden, that would be preferable.

As far as trust…we’ve given you liberals BILLIONS for roads…you P!$$#d it away on Medicaid, welfare, food stamps and a smothering education system, that gets children into your indoctrination camps younger and younger, because your voters REFUSE to take care of their own…

The TRUST factor is something you ignorant liberals don’t need to bring up…you CANNOT be trusted (see “your healthcare will be better and cost less” Obama….

I’d trust Haley more than I’d trust ANY Democrat…you’re liars and thieves…

That’s right, Hon. Those liberal j@ck0ffs just take all the taxpayers money for their socialistic projects like abortion and Obummocare. Forget about protecting our southern borders from ISIS and Ebola. It’s all solar energy and gay marriage. Now that anybody can marry whatever they want, it isn’t as much fun being on the down low. Oh well, can’t wait to come over and watch wrestling tonight. I’ll bring the pizza. XOXO

Agree on abortion and Obamacare. Agree Muslim Obama has no desire to secure the southern border and is a ‘friend’ of CAIR,Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS.

Gas prices will be $5 a gallon by mid 2016-that will please Barry.

Gay marriage? Why would I care what human or animal you marry? Just don’t ask me for a job or to rent an apartments. I ain’t baking you a damn cake either. I ain’t hiring,my places are FULL and call Betty Crocker if ya want a cake!

You are kidding, right? I mean, I don’t want to waste a whole conversation on the Hindu vs. Muslim thing if you were just trying to be funny.

Reply
Tom January 25, 2015 at 5:06 pm

Sikh are not Hindus. Sikhs worship one god. They do not worship the Hindu deities. Technically Sikhs are neither Hindu or Muslim, and their religion contains some elements of each; but overall their beliefs are much closer to Muslim than Hindu.

That said I don’t believe Haley is a Muslim. I think she just says she is whatever benefits her at the time she is speaking. Like most Republicans.

Mike at the Beach January 25, 2015 at 6:11 pm

You are absolutely correct; I am guilty of lazily lumping them together because I assumed that i was writing to a, shall we say, less-than-informed commenter. Anyone who doesn’t get the the differences between Islam and any of the Indian sub-continental religions surely wouldn’t want to discuss the more subtle differences between the ancient Hinduism or the the relatively more recent Sikh. Of course, she’s none of the above, but that’s a whole other discussion.

Tom January 25, 2015 at 7:10 pm

“Of course, she’s none of the above, but that’s a whole other discussion”

Hmm, interesting reply. So what is she? I’m listening.

Mike at the Beach January 25, 2015 at 7:28 pm

No big conspiracy or mystery there- I am merely taking her at her word that she is a Christian (although whether she is or not is out of my lane). She’s said many times that she is, and claims Methodism as a denomination, I believe. No one can really know, though, can they?

Tom January 25, 2015 at 7:45 pm

While I am no follower of the looney right, I am going to have to go against my general instinct and agree with the right wing fundamentalist here. Faithful Christians would not willingly bow down and worship another god, no matter what they were trying to achieve. I’m an Episcopalian, but I was reared in a Baptist household and grew up attending a Baptist Church. That pretty much represents both ends of the spectrum. I suspect if I stood up in either church and asked are their any circumstances under which any of you would be willing to bow down worship another god; the answer would be a resounding, NO.

That is why I think Haley is is fake Christian. She is not a true believer. I think if it were politically expedient she would still be a Sikh..

Philip January 25, 2015 at 6:50 pm

Who cares whether she is a Muslim, a half Muslim or a Wiccan. All are evil. All are false gods, and as such those who worship them are not of Christ. There are but two sides. Those who are with Christ and those who stand against him. Haley stands against him.

Farley Chickson January 25, 2015 at 5:49 pm

No they aren’t kidding. They have accused her of killing children and supporting alleged pedophiles. Having affairs, attacked her husbands military service and recently went after her underage daughter, putting her forward as a ‘sexual object’ on this adult website.

Why not accuse her of denying Jesus Christ?

Reply
Philip January 25, 2015 at 5:53 pm

Pictures don’t lie. She and her husband are kneeling at the feet of a Sikh religious leader. How many Christians do you know who would go to another country and bow down before another god. Would you?

Farley Chickson January 25, 2015 at 6:05 pm

Obama professes to be a ‘Christian’ and his policies support Radical Islam.

Mike at the Beach January 25, 2015 at 6:12 pm

…and he bows to just about anyone overseas- on the Continent, the pacific Rim, the Mideast…you name it.

Philip January 25, 2015 at 6:42 pm

Exactly. Haley and Obama are the same. Bowing before a false god is a sin against god. “Thou shalt have not other god before me; For i the lord thy god am a jealous god.” True Christian would never bow before another god. Daniel was put into the lions den for refusing to bow before a false god. It is the most serious sin one can imagine..

Finally, a post by GT that I agree with. Your points on gas taxes are right on.

Add to that the fact that gasoline taxes received per mile driven have decreased because of greater fuel efficiency. That means that on a per mile driven bases, the amount of tax collected has decreased. The cost per mile of road maintenance surely has not decreased. In order to just maintain, not improve roads, we must increase the gasoline tax.

The fact that some of it will be transferred to Yankees is just a plus!

Will Folks objects to anything Haley does, right or wrong. He acts like a spurned lover or something.

SC gas taxes have not been raised since 1987 and US gas taxes since 1993. You can see that might cause a bit of the problem, too.
When you have Republican politicians who are too stupid to know that roads have been a core function of government for a few thousand years and have pledged allegiance to Grover Norquist rather than the people who elect them, you have the infrastructure problems we have in our state and nation.
Barack Obama proposed his infrastructure jobs bill to a joint session of Congress in Sept. 2011. The Republicans blocked it for fear it would

The vast majority of tourists traveling along 77, 26 and 95 are heading to Florida, not to SC. So to avoid their “user” fee they will fill their tanks in Charolotte and Lumberton heading south, and that big ole’ Pilot station in Georgia before the state line when heading North. And who will suffer the most from that, everyone who works at restaurants along the corridor – because if I ain’t stoppin’ for gas, I ain’t stoppin’ to eat. So Olive Garden in Florence, the Yellow Rose Diner south of Timmonsville (best fried chicken ever), Santee, Walterboro – screwed. So who will pay, the usual – middle class people in South Carolina. The poor don’t work so they ain’t driving much – and the elite ruling class – the state will pay for their gas from Allendale to Columbia.

DeMinted hasn’t had a sensible thought since he last plagiarized his late FIL, Jim Henderson, one of SC’s finest and successful men in the field of Advertising and Public Relations.

Neither his nor SC’s current Queen, Nimrata, have a clue on the current issues of taxes, either in how to repair and rebuild our transportation infrastructure or to re-construct our current and antiquated tax code.

Folks is clueless in his thoughts to kill the income tax and retain the current gas tax. He’d have us riding horses and mules on dirt paths while fording rivers in rope drawn barges.

Tax cuts for the ideological sake of tax cuts without looking at what government is mandated by the people at the local, state and federal levels to provide is simple minded to the point of pathological.
This is what Brownback has done in Kansas. In small businesses where the business owners paid state taxes through their individual tax returns, they have been exempted from all state taxes. Their employees continue to pay taxes to support the services – roads, cops, firefighters, any entity that receives state funding (I leave out schools because we know the right wants to destroy public education) that
