AND RIGHTFULLY SO …

|| By FITSNEWS || Weeks after his fateful decision U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney is still getting beaten up for his vote in favor of fiscally liberal “Republican” John Boehner for U.S. Speaker … and rightfully so.

During one of the South Carolina congressman’s “Facebook Town Halls” this week, Mulvaney was asked about the vote …

“At the (2015 S.C. Tea Party Coalition convention) you state(d), there could be better Speakers, and you voted for Boehner because you did not think anyone else could win, and you did not want to commit unless you knew others would commit also,” commenter Bill Strickland asked Mulvaney.  “I have having a problem understanding your logic, someone always has to be first, some(one) has to lead. That said, what is the criteria for voting just because it is the right thing to do, and not becuase (sic) you can win?”

We’ve had the same problem deciphering Mulvaney’s intent …

Don’t get us wrong: We think Mulvaney’s logic for supporting Boehner is eminently sensible – at least by Washington, D.C.’s definitions.

But from the perspective of the U.S. taxpayer, there is simply no excuse for supporting Boehner … something even infuriatingly impressionable “Republican” voters get.

“We’ve never had much use for Boehner, who has been utterly worthless except in two areas: Capitulating … and getting drunk,” we wrote earlier this month. “Seriously.  Name the issue … and Boehner has caved on it.  Embarrassingly so.”

Seriously … Mulvaney’s contention that there was no credible alternative to Boehner is like a member of the 1934 German government saying they voted for the Reichstag fire decree because no one offered up a credible alternative draft.

It simply doesn’t hold water … and last time we checked there were 434 other names Mulvaney could have called out when it was his turn to vote.

Bottom line?  There’s never a good reason to support a bad person … or a bad piece of legislation.  Ever.  Something Mick Mulvaney (and Trey Gowdy, Tom Rice, Mark Sanford and Joe Wilson) will continue to learn the hard way.

The Speaker’s vote was a gut check … one that found every member of South Carolina’s congressional delegation (except Jeff Duncan) lacking in guts.

Thank you for making sense. I was at Starbucks this morning on my to the airport to fly to Cuba and meet with Castro and get my teeth cleaned by the best health care workers in the western hemisphere when my business partner in Miami told me I left the lights on in our condo in my second favorite place in the world san diego.

Keep up the good work Mick. These clowns don’t realize that Boehner put the ‘rope a dope’ on Mullah Obama.

Invites Bibi and now enough votes to override Obama’s veto threat on additional Iran sanctions. Goodbye Obamacare and NO immigration reform.

LOVE IT!!! Mick is the MAN!!!

I have been very supportive and appreciative of Mick Mulvaney. To me, he has been the closest thing to a common sense, populist type politician that I’ve seen in some time. Somewhat Conservative without all the wacky hard right Taliban stuff. That being said, I’m VERY disappointed in his action regarding The TanMan. Believing in his response will only serve to turn Mick into a “Beltway Boy” and that hasn’t been him……so far. I’m watching closely and hope he takes a 180.

Mick is already a beltway boy. Didn’t take him long. We need to look elsewhere for leadership–it sure ain’t Mick!

Boehner is the man! At least he realizes these Tea Party dipshits are full of shit and need to be purged from the party. They were useful idiots for a couple of election cycles, but now they think they can actually have some power? Sorry to burst that big clueless bubble, but Boehner is doing the right things.

Either way – Boehner is da man. He’s gonna get us amnesty with the magical pathway. Go Johnny. Already decided by RNC and Bush.

There is only one flaw in the TEA Party and Libertarian logic: Boehner has kowtowed to the extremist GOP fringe almost every step of the way, even when it damaged the country, so that they could make what they love above all – a meaningless political statement/gesture.

The only times he has acted like a Speaker of the US House rather than the Speaker of the Republican Party is when what the freaky fringe wanted was so insane and SOOOO ignorant that it would have meant not just US, but worldwide economic ruin.

Mulvaney supports importing NC shit and spreading it near businesses, schools and rural folk. He’s fully aware of the problem, could have addressed it in the house, but this useless piece of shit decided he would rather play politics.

Name one thing this man has done for his constituents.

He couldnt make it in private sector, so he had to try his hand at fucking up the communities he represents.

Sludge Slingers January 24, 2015 at 1:33 pm

Have you noticed how NC’s own residents have been up in arms recently against that same sludge being spread near their own homes? And they are getting the same “it meets [minimum] standards” thus “we HAVE to give them the permit,” ignoring–by ignorance or dishonesty–that states are enabled in the regulations by EPA to require additional safeguards if they are deemed needed.

Truly telling in the NC agency statements of just a week or so ago was the use of the expression “the permit application was complete” instead of “meets standards.” Or, to paraphrase, “All the blanks on the permit application had something filled in them, so we had to issue the permit.” A complete rather than a correct permit is what really mattered. But you don’t have to go all the way to NC to see that prevailing bureaucratic attitude.

I don’t think so.
Tea Party types continue to eat the peanuts out of his shit and were the ones who put him there in the first place.
Karen Martin (Queen for life of the Spartanburg Tea Party) bitched just a little and then after she called him on his secret “Bat Phone” she kissed him and made up.
Same with that ass-kissing Bobby Mac on WORD. He softballs every time he gets Gowdy or Haley on his radio show. He brown-nosed Gowdy like hell a few weeks ago when Gowdy called in after the vote.

How does anyone stoop so low to bash Mulvaney? Don’t they have to pick him up and put him on a chair or something first?

K.Mann January 25, 2015 at 1:01 am

I don’t see why folks came down so hard on the congressmen who voted for Boehner — who at least gives conservatives a seat at the table and even gave top dog mutineer Louie Gohmert a committer chair — and go easy on the two senators who voted to keep Mitch McConnell as Senate leader. McConnell blackballed

Reply
K.Mann January 25, 2015 at 1:28 am

And another thing…
While I’m lukewarm on Boehner, I think voting for him was the only sensible thing to do.Just look at it on the most fundamental level: cost/benefit analysis (or what you’re getting in exchange for what you’re giving up.

All for naught. I’d believe it if Mulvaney ran for governor and won the nomination, and lost the general election. Would he lose to a dem?

After Mulvaney voted against Boehner the last time and learned the consequences of doing that he wisely decided not to do it again if he wanted to get anything done for SC.

I can’t see bashing congressmen for voting for Boehner — who at least gives conservatives a seat at the table (Louie Gohmert even got a committee chairmanship after running against Boehner!) — while saying nothing about our senators’ voting for Mitch McConnell as GOP head over in the Senate. McConnell blackballed every company –e.g. Jamestown Associates — that did work for DeMint’s Senate Conservative Fund (which helped to get Cruz and Rubio elected), and furthermore, he threatened to crush the Tea Party. That should have a lot more people like Folks up in arms, than anything Boehner’s done.
