BARACK OBAMA’S BIG SPEECH DIDN’T DRAW A BIG AUDIENCE
|| By FITSNEWS || The early viewership numbers are in for U.S. president Barack Obama‘s 2015 State of the Union address – and (once again) they’re not good. In fact we could be looking at yet another fresh low in terms of the audience for this annual speech.
America’s three big cable networks combined to draw only 8 million viewers this year – down from 9.1 million last year and 10.35 million in 2013. Fox News led the way with 3.47 million viewers, followed by CNN (2.55 million) and MSNBC (1.99 million).
Data for the major networks has yet to be released, but according to Nielsen the preliminary numbers appear to be roughly what they were a year ago.
All told, Obama’s 2014 address drew just 33.3 million viewers on fourteen different channels – the lowest total in nearly a decade-and-a-half (and well below the 52.4 million who watched Obama’s first address in 2009).
In 2013, 33.5 million Americans watched Obama … down from 38 million in 2012, 42.8 million in 2011 and 48.5 million in 2010.
Ouch …
What makes the speech’s declining viewership even more depressing? In addition to being broadcast on more channels, there are more Americans today than there were in 2009. More than ten million more, if U.S. Census estimates are to be believed.
That means the percentage of Americans watching this speech fell from 17.4 percent in 2009 to 10.5 percent last year.
Oh well, maybe those five million illegal aliens … err, undocumented workers being granted executive amnesty will tune in for Obama’s next speech.
Gotta get those numbers up somehow!

“…My only agenda for the next two years is the same as the one I’ve had since the day I swore an oath on the steps of this Capitol?—?to do what I believe is best for America…”
Versus
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
Exactly. Who cares what he THINKS is best when he veers off Constitutional course? Even though I was dubious about the mystery surrounding his background, and thought he lack credentials for America Top Administrator, I felt he could quite possibly be a post racial leader that all the pundits crowed about. I really had no desire to pull the lever for McCain either so I just stayed home. Now we have had to endure twice as much BS as the Carter years. I feel like America has boxed it’s self in politically so that an R or D choice will be nothing but benevolent soft dictatorships and that a common sense, Constitution minded, man/woman of the people will never make it in to office again. A person like that would be eaten alive and we have only ourselves to blame.
We all yearn for
A man /woman “of the people”
Syrupy BS.
You do realize there is the “executive” branch of gov’t no? In that office of the executive, the duly elected president can exercise his/her prerogative to the fullest extent allowed by the constitution. Nothing to see here friend.
If you don’t like it, don’t vote for him/her.
I do find it ironic that our President said several times he could not do what the Mexican community wanted him to do but did it anyway.
Lol. It’s seems to me the R’s have all but abandoned the lofty goals they set after the drubbing in 2008 and again in 2012 of being more inclusive to the Latino community. If anything, they’ve gone on offense and basically acknowledged they’ll never get votes from Latinos so they should a) be extra super tough on undocumented migrants and border security and b) try as much as possible to limit access to the polls for minorities that include Latinos. It plays well back home but is hardly a recipe for success in the general election. When you have pretty much all blacks, Latinos, gays, Asians, a majority of women & young people and half of white men voting against your party…you can’t win.
What makes you think it’s my party, I’ve never pulled the R lever in my life unlike you pulling the D lever. I’ll bet I’ve voted for more democrats than you’ve voted for republicans.
I still find it ironic he said he couldn’t but did, my irony has nothing to do with “Latinos”.
I used to be a young, wide eyed independent voter. I had this grande belief in US democracy and carefully studied each candidate regardless of party before pulling the lever.
Now, I (like many Americans) have become totally disillusioned with American democracy and politics (at least at the state and federal level). So I will admit that I tick off the straight “D” ticket every time we have an election but it matters not in S.C. This state is redder than Kelly Payne’s backside after a romp with Dick Eckstrom that I could vote a 1000 times and make no difference whatsoever.
Here’s a thought, register as a republican and vote against ever incumbent in the primary. If enough do it, it may or may not change a few seats, at least you walk out feeling like you tried. Then you can go back and pull the D lever in the general election.
Not bad…not bad. I like your style.
What I think we need to solve most of our problems in government, a term limits constitutional amendment.
Some would argue we already have that every couple of years…I am not one of them.
I also support term limits. I’ll even go one step further. I support mandatory voting by mail or in person on a Saturday with at least 4 weeks of early voting.
Open primaries. Friends don’t let friends register for political parties.
So I will admit that I tick off the straight “D” ticket
I know voting in SC is essentially pointless 99 times out of 100, that the outcomes are rarely different than what everyone already expects, but don’t bring yourself to voting straight ticket. There are decent Republicans to vote for, at least at the state and local level. That, and if someone hasn’t made you say “You deserve my vote,” then honestly, fuck ’em, don’t give ’em your vote.
Democracy has its flaws but one of the biggest ones is straight ticket/party line voting, doesn’t matter if it’s Republican or Democrat. It leads to one party rule and one party rule is always, always disastrous. No matter how tempting, don’t sink to their level.
I voted for a Republican for Congress once. Thought she would be a reach over the isle Republican. Boy was I wrong. Fool me once, shame on you – fool me twice shame on me.
I know, most of those republicans are like most democrats neither want to reach across the isle.
Sadly, true to some extent. But seriously, I saw a lot more Dems reach across the isle 2001 through 2006 when they were in the majority, than I see Republicans reaching across the isle now. And I don’t blame them, because the Tea Party is sitting there non-stop saying “we’re watching you, we’re watching you.” The fringes are always the problem – it’s just that the GOP right now seems to have a monopoly on the nutty fringe. Just my observation. I wish it were not true.
The Democrat party really doesn’t exist anymore. They no longer hold ANY power except having an Muslim,American pResident that uses E/O’s UNCONSTITUTIONALLY to continue his agenda of destroying America and pleasing Muhammed.
Dang, busted. Correction – aisle.
I thought it was a mistake, but he used it twice…
Yes and I was using it in the original context.
You really believe that shit-that BOTH parties are the same?
I didn’t say “BOTH parties” were the same, just that neither want to reach across the isle.
You appear too smart to vote for a Democrat.
aisle.it’s not that big a stretch..
Just replying to Rocky.
What should Republicans reach across the isle on? Perverted marriage? Open borders? Stealing wealth? Supporting Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS?
I knew I shouldn’t have broken my own rule, I shouldn’t have responded to you the first time.
Sir. All I did was ask you a question. My apologies if I upset you. I have always valued your opinion on FITS even if I don’t agree with it.
I also respect your sobriety.
That makes twice now
Maybe I should add you to the rule. ;)
“Supporting Iran, the Muslim Brotherhood and ISIS?”
Republicans really think that this sways other people, but really, all it does is scare the moderates into thinking you are all fucking crazy. They don’t notice it because all the other crazy fuckers like them nod their heads and froth at the mouth over stuff like that, but really, the rest of society just looks at you and wonders if your condition is contagious.
Not that the rest of your comment was sane and reasoned discourse either, but damn.
(D) Menendaz called Obama a proxy for Iran yesterday! Said Obama and the team was working for Tehran!!!!!
TRAITOR!!!!!!!
I’ll bet I’ve voted for more democrats than you’ve voted for republicans.
I hear this all the time, and yet the same people who say this say “YOU VOTED FOR [insert Democrat name here]?!?!?” Every. Single. Time.
Care to list Democrats you’ve voted for, besides maybe whoever runs against Graham?
I’ve been a registered democrat and republican.
Right after the elections I listed a democrat I voted for, sorry you missed that post.
I moved here 12 years ago from west of the Mississippi and most of my voting was probably before your time. I could list names but you probably wouldn’t know who they were.
Funny you should mention Graham a republican that has been known to reach across the aisle.
If you don’t like it, don’t vote for him/her.
Like Obama or not, no chance to vote for him again.
Do you think this will ruin his chances for reelection?
One would hope…
Four more years! Four more years! Four more years!
Careful, based on his scholarly understanding of the U.S. Constitution he could probably find a loophole that (in his mind) would make it legal.
Obama won’t run again. He is a Muslim and can’t practice his ‘religion’ until he leaves the White House.
He’ll just issue an executive order making him Supreme Leader. He’s seen how it works in North Korea.
Not bad Colonel.
Where was Joe Wilson when we needed him?
Cruising Senate Street?
Was waiting on ONE to stand up and yell TRAITOR.
Careful, Republicans may “appease” Obama and become the traitors! Muahahahahaha!
Senator Menendaz called Obama a TRAITOR yesterday-said he was spewing the talking points from Tehran.
You can’t make this shit up!!!
Lucky, for the republicans. Less people saw them get schooled by Barry. It’ll be interesting to see how many Tea Party/Republican voters tune out in 2016.
We’ve been watching the master bitch slap the GOP for so many years now – it’s really rather ordinary.
Master of what? Being a snide asshole?
Awe, did someone get their feelings hurt?
I have no feelings.
Master of Economy. Master of killing Bin Laden and other terrorists. Master at expanding healthcare coverage. Master at saving US car industry. Master of many things. You see snide – I see people getting what they deserve.
Master of being a glib divisive son of a bitch who crams policy down America’s throat with no regard for the fallout. Master of killing Bin Laden, that’s maybe the most laughable of your talking points. He wasn’t a bit more in that situation room then he was when the secret gun running crew at embassy in Benghazi was under siege.
umm umm you would know..
That’s still more people than voted in the mid term elections this year. You know, the one that gave Republicans a “mandate.”
You”ll sit on your lazy @$$ and watch TV…but not do your duty as an American, and vote…
Very nice description of the average Obam-ite…
Obama got elected twice. Clearly, Obamaites go out and vote more than republicans.
But ONLY when it pays off in welfare checks, food stamps and Obama-phones you Lazy Some Beech….
You forgot low unemployment, soaring DOW, flush 401Ks and $2 gas. But you always do.
Obama’s unemployment math counts PT and Temp workers as FT, and it leaves out the millions who have given up looking for work…
Soaring Dow is paying off rich Obama cronies who WERE making money off his astronomical (NO DRILL) oil prices, until about a month or so, ago…and if you have have no job you have no 401K…so many have had to cash in the 401K to feed their children in this miserable Obama-conomy…you IGNORANT F*#king lair…
PS: can I have the $5,000 back Obama stole in his first 6 years of his terms, in exorbitant gas prices???…if you’re telling me he’s the blame for gas prices…Dumb@$$…
Stupid – you don’t have solid GDP growth with high unemployment – stop listening to Fox and Friends and get your head out of your ass. Why not try taking a continuing education class on Economics. God you’re such a right wing lemming. If Hannity told you tomorrow the sun wouldn’t rise on Friday you’d probably take the day off. How much gold they get you to buy so far. What a putz. And no, you cannot have your $5,000 that Exxon got out of you so you could employ 50,000 idiots in North Dakota – the same way Hannity won’t buy your $2,000 an ounce gold coins from you for $2,400.
Radical Islam and the terrorists own Obama because he is a Muslim.
Why can’t I listen to Hannity?
Government spending is counted in the GDP data. And the Obama Administration waited to dump all the government spending into a quarter to make it look good. It’s how they do everything….
I forgot you live in Crapville. How’s going over there anyway? Any methane explosions?
Certainly the ones that ensured he got 52% of the vote in 2012. And 2008.
More like State of the Onion.
Burn rating: 1/10
“Did you even turn the stove on?”
Synopsis:
Obama told many of the same lies about the economy, his doltish followers spew on this site,. That ignorant MoFo bragged about lowering the deficit, failing to mention he doubled it from $9-to-$18 Trillion….accumulating more debt than all the presidents before him COMBINED!!!!
He boasted of a 5% unemployment rate, but did not tell anyone millions are not counted as jobless because they quit looking…not to mention that he is counting PT and Temp jobs as FULL employment…
Obama even took credit for the gas price, saying the avg. family could save $750 a year in gas…so does that mean he owes me $750 (or $4,500) for each of the last 6 years of the exorbitant Obama-gas-tax???
Obama got his loudest applause when he noted that he cannot run for office again…so maybe we can end this horrible Obama Nightmare…
Yes … The loudest and longest applause followed “I can not run again …”
As for saving families $750 on gas … while costing the $7900 in medical insurance costs and more on food, housing … The “progressives” are going to be spinning, spewing and Gruberizing that for the next two years.
What REALLY P!$$#$ me off Eddy, is that this is just a game to see if they can hide what a F*#k up Obama is…
But people are suffering under this lousy piece of $#!t…He cares about forcing pain on families if they don’t look like Trayvon.
While we are forced to tell our kids they’ll have to wait for a pair of shoes, or to take a Stay-Cation, while this B@$t@d lives lavishly and we pay. He’s never worked, but travelling and living like a king of a country he hates…
I take a family vacation every year, often out of the country. Oh, I forgot, you live in Crapville. Gee, if it’s so bad, how do all those people afford to go to Disney. Orlando is booming. Booming I tell you.
Now what line of work are you in?
Oh, those worthless college students, stay at home Moms, disabled vets and early retirees (retiring early because the 401K values are sky high again thanks to Obama) – yeah, if they weren’t just sitting on their asses. That’s right baby, we’ve dusted ourselves off and gotten on the go. No thanks to you and your party of do nothings. But hot air is your big thing.
Good point. A lot of good Americans would LOVE to have a good job and a career…but since Obama, there is very little opportunity…and salaries have taken a nosedive…
Mine is up over 25% over the past 4 years. Once again, your story fails to jive with reality.
Can you tell me where you work?
Well if you’re so sure Obama has left your wingnuts in such a terrible shape, I really have to ask what you’ve been doing in the first place. More than half of America has improved themselves under Obama. Don’t you have a blog to run?
I can’t wait for the new SC gas tax, you ?
If you pay attention to Obama, we have been paying an ASTRONOMICAL Obama gas tax for almost all of his 6 years…Obama admitted it, when bragging that gas prices are lower, the last couple months…
Why are you all of the sudden B!t*#hing about it now…because you’re told Haley wants to implement a gas tax….?????…Are you a Dumb@$$?
Witch Haley
SC Gov. Haley calls for gas tax hike tied to income tax cut

And how many watched Nikki tonight? I didn’t. There were re-runs of NCIS on cable.
People tuned out because Obama is as big a joke as Jimmy Carter was back in the 70’s. He’s in a panic because he has no legacy.
Of course thee publick tuned the Kenyan out. His lips were moving and Joe Wilson was (and is) correct!
