FIVE CANDIDATES IN THE MIX FOR VACANT SEAT …

|| By FITSNEWS || On the last day of filing, a fifth candidate has entered the race for sheriff of Lexington County, S.C.

Ed Felix – a retired 25-year law enforcement veteran – said he will join a field that already includes Justin Britt, Jim Crawford, Jay Koon and Dennis Tyndall.

A native of Puerto Rico, Felix joined the U.S. Navy in 1981 and remained in either military or law enforcement service for the next thirty-three years of his life.  Prior to his recent retirement, he spent fourteen years at the state’s criminal justice academy.

“Unlike the entitlement crowd running I am motivated by service to the community, doing what’s right because it’s the right thing to do, and transparency,” Felix told FITS.

All five candidates are vying to fill the office vacated last month by James Metts – who spent forty-two years as sheriff before his career was undone by corruption.

So … who do we like in this race?  We’re not sure, actually … the guy we would have picked for the gig (Irmo, S.C. police chief Brian Buck) isn’t running, sadly.

Oh well … we’ll do our best to let you know which of these candidates is (or isn’t) deserving of your support prior to the primary elections for this seat – currently scheduled for March 3.

It’s ironic that there’s a chance that Lexington gets a sheriff named “Koon”. Anyone know anything about this Felix cat?

That’s cracking me up. Here’s something else, the entitlement guys, they sound like a slimy downtown Columbia lawfirm. Britt, Crawford, Koon and Tyndall.

Yes … he was Fraziers inside man.
It amazes me that everyone I talk to wants change but once again we will vote in establishment.

Which “he” are you referring to?

Sorry I didnt get the felix the cat joke. Im slow sometimes. But i was referring to Jay Koon … i guess “allegedly ” isnt that the word they use that Metts was Fraziers fix it man at the county and Koon was his fix it man at the town. I imagine they dont but if you could get the phone records from the town police you could hear him tell me that himself. Im not saying Koon did anything like letting people out of jail for Frazier. Ticket fixing is the only thing im aware of.

Thank you for the clarification. Wasn’t sure if you meant Koon or Felix, thus my question. Whew! I hope Felix has no ties to Metts or Lott. Then we may have a candidate actually worth voting for.

mholmes January 13, 2015 at 9:58 am

Ed Felix has no ties to either Metts or Lott. He is his own person and is motivated by service to the community

mholmes January 13, 2015 at 10:07 am

Ed Felix has 24 years of law enforcement experience. He is a 33 year airforce veteran. He has worked with local agencies, the center for exploited and missing children, worked with other agents in bringing down a Colombian drug money launderer, voted deputy of the year, and many other attributions. Please see his Facebook page, Ed Felix for sheriff, to see his stances on various concerns of the citizens of lexington county.

Deputy Of The year while at which agency? Just curious.

I met Felix at the SC School Choice rally this week. A very nice guy. He asked me how I felt about our Sheriff dept., what I would change, and if I felt like I got any bang for my tax bucks. He then shared his business background and the areas he felt needed to be trimmed. He said that he has looked at the spending. One thing he mentioned was the $50k salary for someone to do serve 3 documents a day. Why are we paying a deputy and keeping him off the streets when a notary can do the same job per diem? He has a strong business background and talked about much more. He talked about his family and how important safety was. I really liked him and for once felt like we might have a chance to do away w/ the good ole boys. He is definitely worth watching! I have a very good functioning bull meter and this guy seems legit and may be exactly what Lex needs! I say we nominate one of the K9 unit dogs for sheriff.

Might be interesting to watch people bribe their way out of a speeding ticket with dog biscuits.

In my book he nailed it with his “…Unlike the entitlement crowd…” comment

Yeah, he did. Lexington County – the home of the GOP entitlement crowd. “My Daddy was so-and-so, I’m entitled.” “I kissed the fat guys ass, I’m entitled.” “We all goes to the same church on Sunday, I’m entitled.”
That’s how we ended up with whats we gots. Besides, he sort of looks like Mike Meyers.

All candidates would be well advised to stay away from the Lexington Ring and their associates!
Some of these candidates have already stepped in it for their long association with some of these people:
Halfacre
Frazier
Owens
Metts
Peelers
James
Cromer

The “Ring” and their associates will not willingly give up their grasp on power. We the People must pry that grasp/control from their greedy, corrupt hands, with our vote ,for anyone but the people they support and push for office!
This bunch is the reason we have faced so much corruption and illegal activity, which has embarrassed us and held us in these corrupt and immoral activities for too long!

How can you put Owens on this list and leave Tyndall off. I still say Owens has no association with the rest but Fraizer mentions Tyndall on the tapes. Please explain you reasoning on this

Enough Said January 12, 2015 at 3:08 pm

Owens hired Frazier in a do nothing job and paid him for doing nothing, just like Metts did!

He campaigned for Fraziers election to County Council and Town Council, with the Bob and Donna Peeler, Halfaacre, Tim James and Tyndall. That is too close of an associate for me.

The Peelers are trash and have proven it, carrying out an affair while on County business, County time and Lexington Joint Municipal funds and are comrades of Owens, Metts, James and Frazier. James is a hollow, dishonest con with a grin to your face, stab you in the back personality, just like the Peelers and Halfacre. Owens is exactly the same! Tyndall is James and Frazier’s and the Peeler’s butt buddy. I would not trust ANY of this bunch in a crap house, with a muzzle on.

Right now, Felix seems to be the most acceptable of the lot. I hope associations with objectionable scum like those listed by At Your Own Risk do not surface.

Was Mr Felix employed at SCCJA? If so, lets hope he doesn’t turn out like Lee Foster, who used to be a nice guy but turned into a power hungry POS who holds onto the Sheriff’s position with a death grip, much like Jimmy Metts did until the Feds pryed his grubby hands loose from it.

Seems like every two days someone else announces their intention to run for Sheriff.

Amazing Crawford was Metts sidekick got out right before mess, went to columbia with his bud scott, squeezed of of that mess too and now wants to be sheriff. He is full of drama too. If he wins do you think he will have his wife with him at the speech or longtime mistress. I mean he is known to have both at same events.

Deputy Doolittle January 13, 2015 at 3:39 pm

Crawford has still actively supported all the other cronies while speaking against Metts. He’s a hypocrite (surprise surprise).

The State Paper on Jay Koon’s donations…….”The 55 contributions include $500 from S.C. Chamber of Commerce president and former gubernatorial aide Ted Pitts and $1,000 each from 18 lawyers, farmers and business owners, the report says.”

Yep, bought and paid for. Don’t be fooled ! He’s the establishments choice. How do you think he bacame Asst.Chief? POLITICS! Its not coincidental he was transferred from the small PD to the sheriff’s office. He’s a pawn that was re-positioned for “face-time”. FBI Academy? What officer in a command staff does not go?

If they were not so pathetic, the list of candidates for
Sheriff would be comical. Each and every
one of them babbles about leadership and throws the term around like it is
something that the rest of us don’t know anything about. In reality, the one thing that this disparate
group has in common is careers that demonstrate that leadership is totally
foreign to them.

Dennis Tyndal had to ask for permission to run for
Sheriff. Although he couldn’t bend over
front ways far enough when Metts was Sheriff; the very day that Jimmy made his
first appearance in federal court old Dennis put on some long pants and held a
news conference to announce his intention to run. He lacked the guts to take on Metts and the
leadership qualities to run for Sheriff without the W. Columbia safety
net. Obviously, he doubts he can
win. He reminds me of a little sissy who
sticks his tongue out at a bully while clutching his momma’s skirt. If he was a leader, he would have put it on
the line and ran regardless of what the W. Columbia City Council did or did not
do. W. Columbia is the only place this
clown could have ever been raised to the rank of Chief. Isn’t he getting sued by his second in
command for something? Oh yeah! Apparently
old Dennis has a problem finding his office on any kind of regular basis.

Jay Koon hopes that you, like the rest of us in the non-law
enforcement community, believe that visiting the FBI Academy is proof positive
that he is a law enforcement leader.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
The program for local law enforcement at the FBI Academy is more of a
camp for ass kissers than anything else.
Nobody, and I mean nobody, flunks out of the program that Mr. Koon
attended. It is neither designed nor
intended to “weed “people out. Rather, it is a public relations gimmick that J.
Edgar Hoover thought up many years ago.
Local cops go to camp for a few weeks and come home with a brick that
has been painted yellow. Most are too
slow to pick up on the symbolism that is obvious to the rest of us. Rumor has it that the FBI would dump the
program if it could, but is now stuck with it.
One thing is for sure, driving through Quantico does not make you and
FBI Agent. If Mr. Koon wants to be in
the FBI, then he needs to put in an application with the United States
Department of Justice. Otherwise, I have
not heard anything about Mr. Koon that would convince me that he has the least
ability to lead. However, he has
demonstrated a true facility with the skills necessary to do what he has been
told to do. Unfortunately, that is the
one skill we do not need at the moment.

Jason Britt can pose for photograph with Joe Wilson with the
best of them. However, until being
photogenic is somehow linked to actual ability, I think we should pass. Genetics and politics are a poor match.

Ed Felix. Who? Once
again some guy that has spent his life being told what to do is ready to be our
Sheriff. If there is some example of
executive ability or demonstrated qualities of leadership he should have
mentioned them. If he could have I am
sure he would have. Otherwise, there is
no doubt the people who are in a position to grant entitlements passed him over
for good reason.

Jim Crawford. Like
the rest of the field, old Jim has never been anywhere near being in charge of
the number of employees, much less a budget, that is the magnitude of the
Lexington County Sheriff’s Office. He is
like the dog that chases the 18 wheeler; what is he going to do if he catches
it?

I don’t want to vote for any of these people. If someone will post the name of a K-9 over
at the Sheriff’s Office, I will write it in on my ballot. I encourage everyone else to do the
same. We deserve better than this crap.

I don’t know the names of any of the k-9 dogs but I have had a associate related friendship with a fellow who handles a k-9 name… Brian Hinz one of the most honest upstanding guys I’ve ever met
How come guys like him never get any recognition. Just seems like there has to be a better option out there that someone could help get some attention.

You can’t train character and integrity. Either you have it before you go into office or never get it. Ed Felix has 26 yrs exemplary law enforcement and 33 years military reaching the highest rank managing over 800 people. He has the experience, great character and integrity….voting for him would be the best thing Lexington County could do….

I heard he was fired from the criminal justice academy while he was suing them. He must have done something pretty bad to get fired with a pending lawsuit.

Someone needs to look up all the candidates addresses and look to see if there has ever been any calls to their address. Someone has a problem with their temper.
